I didn't see her give up Kara Danvers to become Supergirl. I saw it as she became Kara Zor-El, who is both Kara Danvers and Supergirl without hiding either side of her identity. When Winn comes back from the future he says a lot of girls in the future are called Kara which gives you an inclination that her identity was going to be revealed at some point.

@@ItsATwinThingYT except they spent years talking about how she COULDN'T be Kara Zor-El on earth, because none of her friends and family including Clark (who has no memories of their first shared home) understand that side of her identity. Which is why she always felt alone, even in their presence. They even raised this again in the last season during the midvale eps. The only place she can express her Kara Zor-El side is on Argo, which she now never visits. Or, briefly, when she had a boyfriend who also remembered krypton and their shared culture. But she chose earth, and being Kara Danvers, at the end of season 3 and they basically just left it at that. I was hoping her father's return would remind her of the side of herself she'd abandoned and how important that identity was. But that didn't happen. And in the end in "coming out" she sacrificed the normalcy and safety and privacy that her Kara Danvers identity provided and became just Supergirl. That's how she'll forever be known, even if people technically are aware she has a first name. I'm sorry but this ending just felt like sexist girlboss messaging that obfuscates how patriarchal it is. Hey girls at home, your only value and only chance for fulfillment is in a life of corporate and government service with nothing for yourself, no personal life, even though all the title male heroes were able to achieve their dreams of having partners and family. After all they repeatedly framed happiness (not to mention privacy) as a selfish choice for Kara, as something she just always give up for the greater good otherwise bad things happen. Everything that happened with William only underscores this. Besides, they were so very clear for so very long about the fact that her identity becoming public would put everyone she ever cared about at risk of being kidnapped or killed, so it's upsetting they just turned around and pretended lying was her only problem ever, and that there wouldn't logically be obvious horrific consequences to her choice.

@@atr1845 I don't know why you're saying I'm sorry about the ending as if you're assuming I'm actually 'happy' with the ending. Literally all I pointed out was that the aspect of her identity being known for once actually aligned with stuff previously spoken about in earlier seasons. That's literally all I pointed out. How you see her as just being Supergirl only now is down to your interpretation of the ending. I don't see it that way but that's the beauty of media, it's always subjective.

@@ItsATwinThingYT sorry, I'm not trying to attack you or anything, I'm just so very disappointed in the messaging this show left and its failures of feminism. You shouldn't write your main character a dual identity conflict if her ending isn't going to be realizing she can be both. Which it wasn't. You shouldn't repeatedly have your main character say she wants to "have it all" and then have her end with a small fraction of what she said she wanted, made possible only through sacrificing other things that were once important to her. You shouldn't give her a secret identity, tell the audience how important that secret is for everyone's safety, and then retcon that secret as an act of cowardice and selfishness, as if Kara owes her story to the world, as if everyone is entitled to the truth of her marginalized identity along with, apparently, her perpetual labor in service of the world and Cat Grant's bottom line. Plus they made a big deal about her wanting to resolve all her trauma and then...none of her traumas actually got resolved. I'm still so bummed about all of it, I really loved Kara as a character and she deserved so much better.
