I accidently went on to this video after another review of this lens had ran out. I have to say I am so glad I did as the other peoples pictures made this lens look pretty bad. This video really shows nice sharp photos with the lens. Great job

I known two photographers using this lens and are impressed with the quality and flexibility. They say it's great under Premiership lighting, not so great under Championship lighting. I'm very tempted for aviation and daytime matches.

I wonder if the new D500 would do well enough with stadium lighting, being able to shoot 200 14-bit raw burst is a dream for sport photography.

No it wouldn't. You need at least F4 and preferably ISO 12800 to stop the action. The D500 dies at ISO 6400, this lens is f5.6 minimum aperture.

Interesting demonstration of the zoom utility. Very useful to be able to adapt frame following the action. Ideal function compare to fixed or prime lens ! Good job

I seen a used Sigma Lens 50mm to 500mm but I personally think this is much sharper at it's price range. Also love the video gives people Camera and Lens Envy :)

Awesome. Did you notice if you maybe missed the first couple shots with the auto focus not being as fast or did you just anticipate and pre-focus or it was just fine?

+criminalmane I more losing the first pictures of not being able to quickly turn the ring autofocus lens of 500 mm on a smaller focal length. Jump ring is very large and you can not turn with one movement of the hand. You have to turn twice to go from 500 to 200 mm. It takes the time.

Nice... You are obviously shooting a Nikon D4/ D4S by the shutter speed, but nice. Not having to change cameras with different lenses like the Canon dude! nice!

Fantastic video Sir :) Really nice to watch a pro at work. As mentioned i see you are on the d4 etc, may i ask what iso and shutter speed you are shooting-like many here, i am shooting on the d750 and although the iso performance is great, i wander if it could handler this lighting condition to freeze the action. as a monopod or tripod use? soon I will also take the 200-500 and wish I had something to live up to support it as your own, you can afford to take pictures both horizontally and vertically. the pic are fantastic!!

Would you shoot sports handheld with this lens on a d750, and could you get acceptable results? Thank you for posting this video. All I have seen up until now with this lens are bird photos. I am interested in sports.

Niesamowite, marzę o tym, by chociaż przez moment pośmigać D4s ze szkłem pokroju 500mm. Jestem Warszawiakiem, stadion mam na wyciągnięcie ręki. Co należy zrobić, by fotografować na meczach? Posiadam 10kl/s NEX'a :D

Po prostu poproś o akredytację prasową organizatora. Czasami odmawiają jeśli jesteś zwykłym fotografem nie z jakieś agencji prasowej, ale często dadzą ci wejściówkę na miejsce dla fotografów. Oczywiście za to prawie zawsze trzeba dodatkowo dopłacić, na ostatnim Airshow w Radomiu wstęp kosztował chyba 20, a z akredytacją która dawała miejsce na loży fotograficznej (na podwyższeniu, coś jak trybuna) kosztowała 70 :)

I have watched every KZfaq review of this lens and noticed a couple of things...The VR isn't as good as Nikon claim, the sharpness seems to downgrade at 3 stops below normal shooting speed, and also a tripod makes a difference to the sharpness. People hand holding at 3 to 4 stops under recommended speed are getting soft shots

I would disagree. The VR is absolutely beautiful on this lens. For the price, this lens is beyond a great value. I'd like to know of another lens in the neighborhood price which can even compete.

Actually looks good but why i will buy this lens if cost close to 300mm f/2.8 + tc . I can buy 300/f2.8 tokina pro 750 usd or 100-300 f/2.8 sigma 800-1200 usd ( even ilike tokina ) I get best portraits and best results at 300m. I use 1.4 tc and still get exellent result. I have prime 85mm 1.8g buying 200-500 vr like a buying 24-85 lens for quality and speed . if I need zoom 120-300 f/2.8 if prime 300 f/2.8 any brand. also for me Af-s 300 mm f4d + 1.4 ( my friend bought last week 500 usd only excellent image quality ) better options than 200-500 vr . I am thinking for marathon 10k races etc . so early morning low light I think need 2.8 must be better and better bokeh for sell photos . 200mm f5.6 , 300mm f5.6 ? is this worth really ? can you buy any prime lens 200mm 5.6 ? I m sure 300mm f/2.8 or even f4/d ( less than half price ) better options if you will not use 200-500 with tc.

I shot running around 7-730am with the Nikon D3s at ISO 2500-4000 shutter speed around 250-400 the result of this lens is simply amazing. VR works great too. No monopod / tripod, all hand held. As the sun begins to rise 8am-9am, you get better results kept the ISO around 2000 and using faster shutter speed.

@@DAVE_WHITE I bought a new D850 10 months ago. Something wrong with it so I'm sending it back to Nikon for evaluation and repair. Getting 400-500 shots per charge regardless of battery used.

+Histories jeśli to są zdjęcia seryjne (a napewno takie są, słychać migawkę) to przez cały mecz trwający 90 minut z hakiem myślę, że z 800, 900, tysiąc może nawet, zakładając, że robi się je praktycznie cały czas.

+naomi q teoretycznie duzo duzo wiecej: 90 minut(jesli nie wiecej) x 60 sekund x 11 klatek na sekunde(max dla d4s) = 59400, ale nie wiem czy by D4s nadazyl z buforowaniem (zapewne nie)

@@kedzis nikt nie robi 50 000 zdjęć z meczu, bo nie ma przecież cały czas akcji. Dwa migawka aparatu wytrzymuje ok. 300 000 zdjęć, to miałbyś co 6 meczów wymianę migawki za 700 zł... W praktyce przy tak szybkim aparacie i nie ograniczając się szczególnie wychodzi 1000-2000 zdjęć na mecz. Wolniejszy aparat z 6-8 fps zrobi 500-1000.

this is good,and realize len.and its sharp....but not as sharp...when shot at out side field...this len desire. long distant bird watching..where lightning enough. its super sharp at F5.6.At Iso 100.

Nice quality but in my opinion NK 400mm 2.8 world fine and faster autofocus that this lense. F 2.8 vs 5.6 there too much direffernce Q.

2.8 is too shallow in D of F in some cases. I thought this lens worked well, virtually no vignetting too. Everyone would love the 400mm 2.8, but this zoom did everything well without having to change to a second camera for the close in shots. Nice video and the blue team got thrashed!

Who offered to me 400mm 2.8 same price as 200-500 vr price and I did not buy ? 400mm 2/8 has 1 negative point it is price . If i don't have money for buy that negative point makes personally worst lens to buy for me. Actually for price Tokina 300mm f/2.8 AT-Pro . +_ 750 usd + 1.4 tc done. or if zoom 120-300 f/2.8 sigma + 1. 4 or more tc . not good as tokina or nikon but better.also cost 750-1000 usd . In my case still Tokina. All lenses have negative points than others but even lens excellent lens cost will be negative point. You can buy faster and better and longer sure if you have in your pocket . Or if yo have no way , you are pro and need best result for sell your photos. In my case not necessary to sell my car for buy best lens :) Tokina 300mm f2.8 will be enough . I can upgrade to nikon Af-s 300 f/2.8 when I find good deal later .

+franek trudno jednoznacznie odpowiedzieć, bo bardzo dużo zależy od tego co dzieje się na meczu. Gdy nie ma bramek, to ilość zdjęć jest niewielka, ale jak w meczu pada pięć goli, to nikt nie patrzy na ilość zrobionych zdjęć, tylko na to co trzeba sfotografować.

+przemekkk666 Używałem cały czas D4s, autofokus w zdecydowanej mierze zależy od aparatu. Silnik AF obiektywu chodzi naprawdę nieźle.

1/800s is not enough to freeze motion compleatly. How critical is that? Would you use 1/1250s speed with faster lense?
