I was reading about the octatonic scale and then I stumbled upon the Scriabin wiki page and then I stumbled on this guys' wiki page and now I'm here and I'm happy to say that I am impressed.

My favorite of Roslavets, and here a great and powerful recording with the Mariinsky Theatre. Thank you very much for posting, a great masterpiece!

If this man was allowed to have written what he heard and wanted the world would have been a better place.

Try Melodiya - they have a website - in the Soviet days it ws a 'nice littl earnerr' for the British Communist Party. Naxos also does 'out of the way' stuff.

This music is bonkers! somewhere halfway between Scriabin and Sorabji. Does anyone know if there are other recordings of this available, on CD, streaming, download?

seven and a half minutes - but it feels like 20, not because of boredom. Is it just me?

For me, too, it seems a little bit longer than it actually is. No idea why.

A lot better than Shostakovich's second symphony, written for the same concert (10th anniversary of the Revolution).

Well, yes, Roslavetz was still at his peak while Shostakovich had just began.

Imagine the kind of genius music and new musical ideas that could've come out of Russia had the Russian government gave its artists the freedom to express themselves. Imagine what more composers like Roslavets, Obukhov, Shostakovich, Prokofiev could've done had they had the freedom to write whatever music they wanted to without fear of censorship or worse.

What an impressively chaotic sounding work!

Chaotic your mind. Why don't you breath this fresh air and let your spirit to expresses itself through this new world of music.

Is this the only recording of this stupendous piece in existence?

No idea, could be. Though it definitely not the only performance.

Сложно избавиться от чувства, что это некий вариант тоталитарной музыки. Чем-то напоминает "1984". Автора очень жаль. Тяжелейшая судьба.
