I deeply respect those lawyers for doing that. To be crystal clear, I definitely do not mean to say he is innocent in any sense of the word, rather I'm saying that those lawyers are doing something extremely tough to preserve a right we all deserve to have: a fair trial. It's a shame that people like him get the benefits of these rights sometimes, but the devil's advocate is one of the hardest and most important roles in reaching an ethical and logical verdict, which is the goal of any courtroom.

It’s disgusting how every criminal gets to do all the evil crimes they do, then claim they have mental issues and actually end up getting away with it. Well of course they have “issues”, no sane person can even think of such crimes, that doesn’t mean they are not accountable, it only means they are evil in the heart. That’s what it means.

VIDEO OF NIC WAS NEVER SHOWN, GUN ACTIVIST POLICE CAPT SCOTT ISRAEL. SAID WE WILL NEVER SEE IT-------------------- 95% OF ALL MASS SHOOTINGS ARE FBI 2ND AMENDMENT MASSACRES DESIGNED TO DESTROY THE 2ND AMENDMENT BY FBI CONTROLLED BY GLOBALIST COMMUNIST. ( Florida, PARKLAND HS) 1) The so called shooter Nic Cruz was talking to Alexa Miednick on opposite side of campus while shooting was going on. 2) Ms Lappel was shot in the arm helping kids by a bigger guy dressed in all black, vest, mask, stuff they never found on NIC. 3) Student Jaylin Martin said FBI was at the school for weeks going over drills and playing with campus cameras. 4) hard drives from lap tops of fake shooters are always missing. 5) gun activist police captain SCOTT ISRAEL told his men to stand down. 6) Captain ISRAEL also said we will never be able to see the video footage. 7) Nic, Vegas guy Paddock and Sandy Hook patsy, we're all FBI cadets! 8) Nic was a loner who was inheriting $500,000 from parents death in like 4 months. 9) Nic said he didn't do it, but his attorney told him if you say you did, you will avoid the death penalty.

But why do they need to petition for those records? If the defense is amenable, they can simply submit the documents into the official record and then they can be assessed by all parties. This forestalls the need of a ruling.

I'm reading the comments and I see people missing the point of the discussion here. They are not arguing if he was to blame or not for the shooting, he is to blame since he was not psychotic during the shooting, he was aware that his actions and the consequences of them were taking place in our reality. That is out of the question. What they are discussing is if there are factors to partially blame for the incident, depending on if there were psychological/psychiatric conditions that catalyzed the shooting (like mental disabilities, severe personality disorders, etc) which it can be difficult to determine if they played a role or not... and if they did then at best his sentence gets reduced a few years. In any case he will spend most of (if not all of) his adult life in prison.
