"On The Red Carpet" Storytellers Spotlight welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning author Nikole Hannah-Jones and singer/artist/actress and reproductive advocate Tatyana Ali to step into the "On The Red Carpet" Storytellers Spotlight for a powerful, uplifting conversation surrounding the Black maternal health crisis.
In connection to Episode 2 of Nikole Hannah-Jones' "The 1619 Project," the discussion centers on Tatyana's own challenging birthing experience, which served as a catalyst and inspired her to use her platform to become a reproductive justice advocate for Black, brown, and indigenous mothers.

I've been following tatyana ali since fresh prince of bel air my heart aches for what she endured for what supposed to be a special moment between mom and dad bringing a blessing into the world hope she sued the bricks off this hospital and all staff involved that's emotional distress😢

@TatyanaAli You are an amazing communicator! I really enjoyed hearing you share your story. It's very impactful to hear you championing this familiar type of dehumanization that we too often experience in hospitals, in corporate America, everywhere. Thanks for sharing so eloquently this story for others to hear.

As a nurse, I'm so sorry that no one was explaining what was happening and why they were doing the things that they were doing. From your account of the birth, it sounds like you were having trouble passing the baby's shoulders and the baby probably wasn't handling it well. Anytime there is chaos in the room, it's because there is a life in danger, and that's why they are panicking. Again, I'm so sorry that the incident scared and hurt you, but I'm so happy that you and your baby are healthy!

What a great interview! I think Tatyana Ali is a good actress. I am 43. I wonder how old she is. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was a cool show.

How long has this been happening? Im a empty nester many years now im just curious about the time line of these child birth nightmares.... Since covid I have experienced indifference and impatientence with Dr visits extremely rushed not feeling heard this affected my relationship with my Dr I've had for years and had been pleased for the most part...I was very upset for months which stopped my regular office visits eventually I think my Dr sensed something was off with me and things slowly came back to some normalcy.😢

I understand her emotions and her fears however, this is why you need experts or doctors on the show to explain the actions of what the doctors were doing.
