I started to turn gray very young and colored my hair from age 28-44. My coworkers were so negative towards me when I started to grow it out. It really is a power move that bucks the system. I am 6 years into my gray journey and I am so glad I stepped off the hair dye merry go round. I think my old co workers felt threatened when they saw that I was bucking the system that they felt trapped in. Baby I am liberated!

Your right Nikol. My girlfriends would say to me why I was not dying my hair. They would say you look old. But when we would go out I was always had men talk to me and with that is said my girlfriends just stop asking me to go out with them. I stopped dying my hair at the age of 45 I’m 72 now. My husband and other men always say to me that I have the most beautiful hair. And that makes me feel beautiful. Thank you Nikol you are beautiful.

Thanks for reminding me it is a power move... Just had an idiot spit venom at me and tell me he knows the reason my ex-husband left me and that no one wants to be near me. I am crying to hear this and remember how brave it is just to be me. At 38, I embarked on the grey journey from long long dark hair past my breasts to a very short grey pixie cut. In one fell swoop, the transition was complete and I donated my hair to a children's charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair. 💖

Oh so sorry about that. Those idiots exist but there are much more nice guys than idiots out there. What a scary but caring move...to chop your hair and donate it to others in need. Pop on the lipped, nice earrings and colourful top and own it. Your single, have a kick ass hairstyle and a great heart. And now you have a talking point.....why did you cut it and who did you help. Own it.

@@sharongannon2640 Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sharon! I cut it because I didn't want to wait for my hair to grow out with the demarcation line for years. I instead decided to just start out anew with a pixie cut and fully grey from day 1. I am not sure who I helped by my going grey other than the children at the charity, but it has certainly been a talking point amongst many friends and peers and I know some people who have also taken the plunge to go grey since. I think the person I helped the most is me. It feels great to be completely unapologetically natural and liberating not to have to cover it up with dye every three weeks and thereby ruining my hair. 💖

What a blessing to donate your hair to a children's charity! The Bible speaks on this: The hoary head is a crown of glory if it be found in the way of righteousness. Proverbs 16:3, meaning that if you been pleasing God up to the point that you are grey headed, you lived a long life of righteousness, so God sees your grey hair as a crown!! Something to think on!!

Letting my gray grow out after 30 years of chemical coverups was freeing and empowering. You are so right, Nikol - it is about attitude. I had wanted to stop coloring for years but my husband had said he wasn’t “ready” to see me in gray hair. I finally spoke up and said, “I promise it won’t be your Grandma’s gray hair”! And grew it out over the fall & winter when I was 58 years old. Caps, berets and root powder kept me curious about my results for 6+ months. I knew there was plenty of white under there as I had discovered my first grays in my late teens. I felt like a kid anticipating Christmas morning! I went for my pixie chop and have never looked back. I care more about my makeup and personal style now then I ever did, because my attitude is: I’m a platinum lady of great value”. My gray says “confident”, not “old”. On my way home from the first cut, I stopped at the grocery store and a man I had never seen, stopped me and said “Your hair is beautiful” God bless him! I get more positive comments about my hair now - no one ever noticed the brunette with highlights that cost me soooooo much $$$$!

Haven't dyed my hair since March. Your videos were the first that I found when I needed support. I'm more salt and pepper, not solid grey. I have my days where I'm self conscious, but I am happy that I am sticking to it. A friend said I could get grey highlights to blend the old dye, but I told her that I need to go through this process, it's bigger than hair. Thank you, Nikol. 🤍

Now that was a very interesting presentation. In 2019, I lost my long thick dyed hair during 1 year of cancer treatment, and I was so tenderly cared for. My hair grows fast. It's now shoulder-length, strong, thick, a beautiful shiny silver-white, the natural color appears different each new day. This is me! After hearing this presentation I'll be entering into another journey. I can hardly wait to read my new biography!

It took me 2 times to completely embrace the gray. I grew it out & half through, I colored it. I decided I'd try it again, I got it more than half grown out & slipped back again, because I listened to other peoples comments. Well, my third attempt, bingo! I thought heck what others thought. It was my hair, my business and my choice. And I love it, it made me feel confident, made me feel good and most of all free to be myself. And my husband says it's sexy, lol.

Funny story for you, when my mom first went grey she became the Bride of Frankenstein, it looked soooo amazing! She had all this dark brown hair that was just not yet black with this awesome streak of white hair right next to her right temple. When I first told my mom she thought I was making fun of it.....long story short she actually got a little teary eyed when I told her I thought it was the coolest things......I would tell all my friends that I thought my mom looked amazing with her shock of white hair. It was sooooo bad ass!

I was always extremely shy and did not feel good enough because I was not like others, I copied other people’s style but it was not me, then when I decided to go grey, my whole mindset changed, suddenly I was me, my confidence changed, my style changed and people saw me for the first time, I have been greatly surprised by how many people I have influenced to stop colouring their hair only because I stand tall and love myself now....it has been the greatest gift that I could give myself!!

I also started going grey in my early 30’s. Actually I had some greys even in high school, but not so many to notice much. I’ve been salt and pepper since my 30’s, and now in my 40’s it’s more salt than pepper. I have never died my hair. I just let it be natural. It bothered me at first, and I complained to my husband that my natural color is dark brown. He responded that dark brown is no longer natural for me. Well, he’s right. His comment really hit home, so I never died my hair. My grey hair is me and now I actually like it. I have had many hairdressers compliment me because my hair is similar to the lady in the video, only short. My grey and brown is evenly distributed and hairdressers say it’s pretty.

But yes: When I am travelling in Italie or France people are looking at me. I often ask my husband: Do I have mascara under my eyes, or icecream on my nose? But he always say: No, it's your silver hair, you are the only person with gray hair. Now I'm 60, and people are still looking at me. Let them, I love my hair, and my husband likes it too. I colored my hair at quite a cost for 25 years but not until I let it go silver, which took close to two years, did I get at least one complement every single time I was around other women! Now, Nikol, I will say this - it has to be the right gray hair - don’t you think? Healthy and thick being important, I think. I love it so much! Thank you.

Thank you for all this positive information. I used to color my hair, highlight it, every thing to cover my silver-grey. About four years ago I got tired of spending so much time at the salon, not to mention the cost. Decided to let everything go and embrace the change. I LOVE it, I LOVE the silver-grey and do everything to show it off. The streaks of silver-grey are beautiful. It’s been a journey to experiment with different makeup shades, eye shadows, blush and lipsticks. My journey has been beautiful and fun. Thank you for sharing yours 💜💜

I love your message! Being a woman is such an honor, in my opinion. When I decided I was finished with the monthly ritual of coloring 'my roots' that is when I literally reclaimed my inner strength. It sounds a bit odd, I know, yet it is true. The hairstylist I had been going to for upward of 15yrs was not supportive, so I found a new one. I learned a lot about myself thru the transition and made the best of the opportunity. It was so liberating! I can honestly say that I think my natural hair is the prettiest, the most healthy it has ever been. It's vibrant, soft, and has so much natural body. I actually use less product these days.

Saw this at the right time. At the end of March I made the plunge. I decided to cut my hair super short in order to shorten the “skunk” phase. Now I am dealing with thick, wavy hair that is growing out. I feel like I went from looking striking (very dark hair with very light skin) to “washed out.” I’m learning that I have to change my makeup somewhat and modify my wardrobe a little. I do get compliments on my salt and pepper hair color, but it feels weird. So I’ll keep watching your videos; they really do help.

I am a natural blonde. My colorist/stylist is a brunette. January of 2020, I was overdue for “highlights” because I did have my natural blonde highlighted and she even put in dark strips for contrast. Anyway, I was overdue when social isolation began (I was also the only client she had to remind to come in for my regular 8-12 week appointment because I am a natural blonde and I’d either forget or get busy :)) and I was also noticing silver coming through on top. But she had already been telling me that my silver was coming in “gracefully” and while I love that word and description, I had NO clue what that meant. So she said, Well let me tell you what it’s like when it comes in UNgracefully. So, long story short, I felt blessed to be beginning a relatively easy transition first, due to social isolation and salons shut down for awhile, and also being blonde it’s all in the same family. By the way she doesn’t even say “gray” - she says it’s not a hair “hue”. She says silver, platinum, blonde, dark, even almost black, in some cases, are hues. I began to be just fascinated with it! I couldn’t go into a salon anyway...and I was home anyway...my hair began to grow and grow and the platinum began to just amaze me. I started using a purple shampoo recommended by her, and I love the color. Everyone does. I really believe it is a POWER PLAY. I believe that men love the confidence it gives off and women are totally and completely INTIMIDATED by the display of confidence and POWER this choice screams at them. Thank you Nikol for preaching it. Ladies, if you have negative nellies in your life, (you know women already intimidated by your confidence and power and who hope to mess with it) this will in-your-face them like no other move. You know why? Because...they...couldn’t...do...it...and the fact that you can...well...YOU are the winner. I don’t even mean to be mean. I mean YOU be YOU and let THEM be THEM and love every one in spite of their bad behavior. ❤️

With the pandemic I dyed it in February 2020 and during lockdown the gray started showing of course and I actually liked the color! With your videos I got inspired and took the plunge. By July 2020 I was almost all gray, of course I always have it short. As you say men come up to me and just compliment me. A few of my women friends have told me, very lovingly to dye it red again but I won’t. I just love my gray! Thank you for being an inspiration

A few months before quarantine I had decided to test going without hair color because I knew a couple of friends at my church did that and it turned out beautiful. I had noticed my roots were now white instead of the dull gray. So my hairstylist went a shade lighter to help the contrast of roots to not be so great. The next time I went to salon, she just did all over highlights and that was right before quarantine. Then when we weren’t allowed to go to salons, my hair was continuing to grow out. The first time I went back to the salon this summer it was looking so good. I’ve only been getting trims. I began getting so many compliments. I love the variations of color almost every wash. It still has halfway to go . I originally thought I would get it cut short at some point in order to cut off the “leftover” color but it’s blended so well. Plus I’ve also let my bangs grow out and I have such a good stylist who knows how to shape it for framing my face. The texture of my white hair is soft and shiny which was not true of my colored hair. I love it and on our zoom meetings friends are always commenting how pretty it is. No one has ever commented on my hair before this - ever. I look at former photos with the brown hair and it even ages me. Today I look younger. Blessings!

I am 56 yrs. old. After 25+ yrs of coloring my hair and I've been working from home since March 2020, I decided to stop coloring my hair to see just how much gray I have. I figured if I don't like the gray, I can go back to coloring it. I was getting my hair cut in a pixie to help accelerate getting my hair to its natural state of color. As of two months ago, my hair is now in its natural state and the salt & pepper mixture in my hair looks very similar to yours, Nikol. I am LOVING my gray hair!! I purchased a "purple" shampoo by Matrix that I have been using once weekly, to help ward off any yellowing to my gray. I should have done this years ago!

This is a great vlog, and i agree with everything she says. Went grey or should i say platinum over my natural color light brown. And yes I had several hairdressers tell me not to think about going back to highlights. This is a god given gift of natural highlights. Yes, it took me a long time to get use to it, and yes I most likely look my age. Family members tell me I look old, however I have had many many people tell me how beautiful my hair is and ask me if its all natural. One lady followed me around in a store, and finally she says you hair is awesome and it is your natural hair right? She told me she was afraid to say anything at first because she said its so pretty, but thought it was a wig! Thank you Nikol you look beautiful!
