This Nikkor Zoom came out into my teenager days. I couldn't afford it, but i've bought it later as F100 Kitlens, into 2001, as Set. The other one was the AF-D 28-105/3.5-4.5 for the F100.

Ok, cool…F100. That’s a camera I would want to test one day.

With regards kit lenses I see nothing that post processing can sort out most of the time. People ranting on about sharpness. I have a 75-240mm f4-5.6 I think it's underrated got some nice images from it.

Well. Unfortunately I don’t own this lens anymore, but two other lenses I could recommend is the Nikkor AF 20-35mm f/2.8D (1993-2001) or the Nikkor AF 35-70mm f/2.8D (push-pull 1987-2007). The 28-70mm was as stated a “kit-lens” and had quality comparable to a kit-lens. When I did the video I only had a APS-C camera available to me, now I use FX or full-frame. So when using a FX lens on a DX camera you get the crop-factor and more of the sharpest parts of the optics are used but I can only speculate that the corners would be a bit more effected if used on a 35mm film camera or FX digital camera. But that´s speculation from my part. As stated the 20-35mm and 35-70mm in my opinion are better lenses but for a kit-lens the 28-70mm is a good budget alternative. Regarding to used with crowds as a wide angel, well… unfortunately I don’t have any experience in that. Sorry.

Agree fully Tobias, great little lens! Superb build quality, great sharpness and fine color rendition at the fraction of the new and rather pricy (or overpriced as some folks say...) lenses. Unloaded most of my "modern" lenses, going back to good old MF marvels.

Thank you for sharing this video. I have been looking at a 24-70mm f/3.5-4.5 D on eBay. They want $66.00 American dollars for it. I have used other older Nikon films lenses with great success. I am sort of expecting the same performance from this lens. It is good to hear your opinion.

Well my thinking about lenses today is to not get the “latest and greatest”, but to focus on the previous one or two generations. Then you can get grate quality for a lot less money. But this one I was gifted, it came on a second hand store F70, so I can’t really have an opinion if $66 USD is a good price or not. But as stated I was presently surprised by the images that it took on my crop sensor D7200.

Such a nice video, thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to buy this lens and use it on my Nikon D7200 aswell. I'd like to test it first, to see if it can replace my 18-105mm VR lens.

Cool, glad you enjoyed the video! Well don’t have any experience with the 18-105mm VR, but as stated this lens surprised me.

So 18-105 is more plastic lens, but get 18-135 or 140mm is best. I have d7000 and working amazing

@@voNashemaalo I had the 18-140mm too, a nice lens too but sadly too much vignetting when shooting at f5.6 or so. 18-105mm have this similar issue aswell

@@lelekoJumboJet hey your advice I am thinking of replenish with 28-85mm or 24-70mm, I do photoshoots portraits, what you think? Thanks

@@voNashemaalo I don't know, sorry... I still didn't test the 28-70mm of this video, and I have no experience in portrait photography. I just know that some photographers love to use the 50mm f1.8 lens for this kind of job

Would you say this lens is an upgrade from the kit lens 18-55? In terms of sharpness that is.
@1989Goodspeed
@1989Goodspeed 4 жыл бұрын
Well I don’t have any experience with the 18-55mm that said, the 18-55mm is a far newer lens and if it is the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR you are referring to, it is a far newer lens and made for DX cameras. The 28-70mm I used in the video is an old-school 35mm film lens. So it is a “vintage” lens.

It's suitable for Nikon d700 and group photo ?
@1989Goodspeed
@1989Goodspeed 4 жыл бұрын
Well it was made as a “kit lens” for the Nikon F100 a 35mm film camera witch is equivalent to a FX/full-frame sensor digital camera like the D700 so it should cover the entire frame. As a group photo lens… that all depends on what kind of style you are going for, but 28-70mm would in my mind give you a good base for reasonably wide to mild “portraits” focal lengths.

Are they good for photoshoot portraits
@1989Goodspeed
@1989Goodspeed 4 жыл бұрын
Well, any lens can take portraits, it all dependent on what type of portrait you are interested in… the most “classic” portrait focal lengths are 85mm, 105mm, 135mm and 180mm but 70mm is close and on a APS-C it is like a 105mm (on Nikon) so it can potentially be a good portrait lens but at f4.5 (not for the “Bokhe snobs”).

I have just bought one of these lenses on Ebay (near mint) for £51.00 I'm very pleased to see that it is not going to be a waste of money. As I also have a 35-70 f/2.8 D lens, do you think it will add to my repertoire?
@1989Goodspeed
@1989Goodspeed 4 жыл бұрын
Well I do own the push-pull 35-70mm f/2.8 D it is a fantastic lens, but as stated I was impressed with this 28-70mm though it is a variable aperture but still it is in my mind a cool walk about “street” lens.
