"flip lcd unless you're shooting photos above your head". This is why you can't rely on reviewers. If you shoot anything low to the ground like newborn, pets or macros of flowers, the lcd is a godsend. Also when I shoot weddings, I like to get a shot of the couple from ground level with the church ceilings in a wide composition.

@@NOKOT51 Great to know. Although I dislike Sony colors, I was so tempted by the α7 III when it came out, but decided to wait for any interesting deals later on. THANK GOD I waited all these months. Nikon discounted the D750, and B&H currently has a deal with the D750, Nikon battery grip, SD card, additional battery and a bag for $1396.95. I could not resist. That's just under $200 more than what I spent on my Nikon D70 back in 2005 with an 28-80mm and a 70-300mm.

Thank you for the awesome review! I bought my D750 10 days ago and even though I read many "low level short reviews" before and after my purchase yours hands down was the best. I have migrated from, not counting my Nikon film cameras, a D40 to a D90 to a D7100 and I finally made the leap to full frame, and the D750 was the right way to go. For me, there was too much controversy around the D600 and D610. I AM GLAD THAT I WAITED!!!!!

Many thanks for possibly the best camera review I have ever seen. Since I started in the days of the black & white darkroom I have seen a few:) You took the d750 through a difficult real world situation which really showed what the camera was capable of...both still & video. Then you provided the raw files for us to decide on them instead of wondering what the reviewers opinion really meant. Thank you very much for a review that actually answered all of my questions about this camera. I see one in my future :) Snuffy

To get the AF points more spread out in the viewfinder you need a bigger module and bigger secondary mirror. That would make the whole system MUCH more expensive and I am not even sure if that would fit into a Nikon body. So they really aren't spread out more on the DX cameras like my D7000. They just cover more of the sensor because it is smaller than a FX sensor and the viewfinder pretty much represents what the sensor sees. But anyway! Great review! I really like the that this camera fits in. It's "better than a D610, but not quite a D810".

3 things I want to see in this, 1) The top CASIO type display has got smaller (When compared to D7000, D7100 & D7200) and I really miss seeing the detail in what i'm shooting at, Whether JPG, RAW or RAW + JPG. Because I switch the modes depending the situation so i have to now press the info button to see what I have selected currently. 2) I feel that the front grip is not fat enough, its great that they have increased the depth of the grip but I would like it would have been little bit fatter than what is right now. 3) Lastly I love the fact that movie record button can be changed to ISO change option, however I really don't like the fact that every time I press dual purpose button like ISO or WB the info display turns on, Specially when changing ISO which your certainly do almost all the time. Because when I'm looking through the view finder & change the ISO all of a sudden I can see the screen lit up. Wish there is a way to turn that off. Other than that, all I can say is WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! This camera just blows my pants away. The problem is when you have such a awesome, brilliant, spectacular, incredible, cool camera your expectations rise up more than it should be, therefore these minor details kinda get in your nerves. But its something I can live with, but without the D750 now I don't think I can live :)

The focuspoints are squised into middle because it is meant for later cropping in indesign when layouting a ex. Newspaper page. I know the frustrations of not being able to get into the edge. Good thing there is always manual focus which neatly is put on a turning switch on front left side facing the back of the camera your self. Besides that you can put ae-lock as af-on and turn camera to the side so you can get it out of focuspoint range. Third solution shoot dx-crop. The points fit in nicely there and the many pixels allow a nice cropping too.
@ravennexusmh8 жыл бұрын
the AF points being squashed is due to them using the same cam3500 module for DX and FX cameras, so while it's nicely spread out in DX camera, there will be all squashed in the middle on FX< they really need to develop FX specific CAM modules.
@vteconly9 жыл бұрын

First Nikon Full Frame camera to have a pull out screen. Sony's A99 has had a tilt-swivel screen for 2 years now.
@VueeyLe8 жыл бұрын
+Maxwell Starr Sadly the A99 isn't a DSLR though, it is a mirrorless. I think many are still sticking away from Mirrorless cameras until the technology and etc matures more, especially in AF abilities
@MaxwellStarr8 жыл бұрын
+Vueey Le Technically speaking the A99 is still a DSLR. DSLR, meaning 'Digital Single Lens Reflex', means that there is a Reflex mirror that reflects light out of the viewing path to aid with framing and focusing. What's different is Sony's implementation of it, where the reflected light goes into an always-on focus system and the mirror never moves. Mirrorless implies no mirror at all, and he smaller size/shorter flange distance that comes with scrapping the mirror. Sony's branding of it as 'SLT' Single Lens Translucent' was unfortunate however because now you have plenty of people saying they're not DSLRs (they're not traditional DSLRs but still DSLRs). But the term 'Reflex' doesn't mean moving mirror, after all, the mirrors didn't move in TLR (Twin-Lens Reflex) cameras like the Rolleiflex.

I agree that the d750 seems to be an awesome piece of equipment (with the right glass). In regards to the tilt screen, I find it very beneficial seeing as I'm not '6"4 for high shots or '4"2 for low shots. My photo that ended up being featured on the official flickr blog was possible because i was able to frame it correctly by using the tilty screen on my 70D. I've had it send back to Nikon again! Also I had this "flare issue" so mine was already gone for 2,5 weeks. I have been shooting Nikon DSLR cameras since the Nikkormat FTN. They built solid cameras thoughout the years. Now, I do have my doubts. Not recommended, but hey: you choose

Nice review, the reason people don't use live view on a DLSR for photos is because the focusing is to slow, unlike mirrorless cameras that shoot just as fast as looking through the view finder, just another reason why mirrorless is the future, also the new Samsung NX1 focus points cover 90% of the frame, along with 155 cross type focus points, and shoots 15 fps, and has 4k video, if they made the same Nikon D750 but without a mirror, they could make a better camera, everyone always acts like it's DSLR vs Mirrorless, but it's not, it's new technology vs old, and new technology has to win, I checked out the D810 and D750 in a store the other day, personally I loved the smaller size and weight of the D750, and I wish the D810 was the same size and weight, but if they were without the mirror even better, with fully articulating touch screens, hibrid view finders, silent electronic shutters, 15 fps, focus points that cover 90% of the frame, 4k video, how would it not be a better camera ? , Nikon is making some nice cameras, but like canon, they are trying to hold on to the DSLR a little longer, but in two resent interviews I saw of the CEO's of Nikon and Canon, even Nikon and Canon are looking serious at mirrorless now, and both companies have plans for a big sensor mirrorless in the very near future, they don't have a choice because they know it's the future of cameras, and they are finally admitting it, and my guess would be within a year or two, you will start to see the change over from Nikon and Canon, and all the people who argued with me against mirrorless will eat there words, when they finally see a mirrorless camera that out performs an old tech Dslr in every way, and all those DSLR die hards will jump on the mirrorless bandwagon like as if they new it all along, and when they start making glass specifically for FF mirrorless, wear they don't have to complicate the design to compensate for the mirror, you will see glass go to another level also

If you won't buy the NX1 you don't have the right to talk like that. And btw nobody has made a real world review , so it might some flaws (not saying it will but it might).

Having "more AF points" doesn't make a faster or better AF system. Phase detect sensors on Mirrorless cameras are far far smaller (pixel sized) than those on a dedicated Phase detection AF sensor of a DSLR. I also have more faith (and most people do) in Nikon/Canon/Sony delivering a better AF system than an inexperienced in this market company like Samsung.
@photographerjonathan9 жыл бұрын
if that is the case, then why is the Canon M mirrorless camera maybe the slowest on the market, and the Olympus OMD and Panasonic cameras so lighting fast, I agree that Samsung is a beginning company in the camera market, but they used to be a beginner in the tv market also, and now they are number one, they used to be a beginner in the cell phone market and look at them now, and it's just matter of time before a mirror less camera out performs a mirrored camera in every way, in maybe two years, there wont be any disadvantage to mirror less anymore, only advantages, even now mirror less already has a ton of advantages, and both the CEO's of Canon and NIkon have come out recently saying that they are now taking mirror less seriously, and they both plan on putting out a serious big sensor mirror less in the very near future, probably in 2015, why if they didn't think it was the future, would they even bother to do that

But even GH4, Sony A6000 or any Fuji or Olympus camera can't keep up with the Dedicated PDAF sensor of the Nikon D4S, which is shared by D810 and D750, or likewise AF systems in the 1Dx, 5DmkIII, even Sony A77II, probably the Canon 7DmkII as well. The reason for this and will always be a limitation of Mirrorless, is that in order to achieve superior Phase-detect AF on Mirrorless, these sensors need to be built onto the image sensor itself and are the size of a pixel (or Canon's new Dual-pixel, still small), which not only has to be compensated for by interpolating from the light captured by neighbouring pixels, they have size limitations and capture only a limited amount of light(but can be inserted all over the sensor). A Dedicated PDAF sensor features much larger Phase detect sensors, more complex (ie: crosstype) and can more accurately focus in lower light conditions and faster than tiny ones built onto the sensor. If you compare it to computers, you can play games well enough on most new PCs with Onboard video or CPU's with integrated graphics but for the performance minded it doesn't really replace installing a high end dedicated graphics card from AMD or NVidia. Even if Mirrorless PDAF does somehow catch up fully with Pro DSLR, it won't surpass, it will just match. It also doesn't mean the death of DSLR lens mounts and DSLR-sized bodies. If anything, higher end cameras will simply drop the mirror in favour of a Mirrorless sensor and use the same lens system. Keep in mind there's also the matter to consider of how using large lenses on tiny bodies feels horribly unbalanced and are very poor ergonomically, I personally wouldn't want to use a large Telephoto lens on anything smaller than a DSLR body. That's not to say Mirrorless is bad, they're not, I personally own a Sony NEX and it provides some stunning image quality, I've gotten some of my favourite photos with it, but the AF isn't as good as my DSLR and even if it was, I wouldn't want to tack my 70-400/4-5.6 or 70-200/2.8 lens to the front of it and shoot sports/wildlife for an extended period of time. Claiming "Mirrorless is the Future" may only be half right, but calling for the death of the DSLR because Mirrorless cameras pack performance into tiny bodies is premature. As for Samsung, the NX1 is currently untested (no real reviews online and no DxOMark scores yet) and generating interest mainly on having a 28MP APS-C sensor, but more MP doesn't mean better Image Quality. Colour depth, dynamic range and ISO performance in RAW matter more than a marginal increase in resolution, and more resolution means better glass is needed to make use of it. No one knows how good their new sensor is and how their new glass is, and even if Samsung can somehow create a good camera, Samsung has a reputation of making cheap consumer-level electronics with questionable reliability and it will be a while before any professionals would consider making the switch full time, which in turns affects market adoption of the product.

shooting with a 600 from the endzone.. my plan was to get a 50-500 and do the same thing. i own canon and someone sent me a nikon 50-500.. now im thinking of getting a d750 to get into nikon.. or just sending it back...

Hope more Nikons have the tilting LCD screen. Other manufacturers like Canon and Sony have had them for a while. Some pro's don't want to use it (some might even be against it) but no harm in having the option there, right?

I just wonder if it makes more sense to use a D7100 in crop mode then you could get 400mm out of a 70-200mm 2.8 I wonder if that sensor has got enough ISO range to shoot that kind of event at night?

Great review. I made up my mind to finally purchase the D750 instead of the D810 just a few days ago, which I can save some bucks to invest in more glass. And thanks for the tips and tutorials man, your assistance has brought me to a higher level photographer

Absolutely brilliant video. Comprehensive and really clear. Thanks for taking the time Jared. I am tempted to sell my D800 for one of these. I need the 1080p 60fps for video as I do more video than stills.

Can we get an updated review if the d750 still holds up on 2022?? Wanting ro go full frame.. I shoot mostly sports and my research keeps giving the d750 as an option but I'm worried to buy it being so old and need to upgrade again too soon for whatever reason..

Buy it!!! It rocks!!!

Jared we need to hear what the camera can do with the minimal or average lens because no one who buys this camera is going to afford 20,000 for just Len and I wouldn't be surprise if d90 would even look good.

well, i could give u one good use for the display : did you know that you can use zoom in live mode? So if you're taking a night sky, for example, you could focus on a star with the zoom capability... MF + zoom on live mode is awesome...

Very nice review. I am looking forward for comparison of D610, D750 and D810. Can you split the final summary of these three cameras for videographers and for photographers? I would like to upgrade to FX and I am thinking about D610 or D750 + Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 VC. I am not sure if it's just me but I am taking video very rarely so video features are not so important for me in overall comparison.

do some sort of D750 vs 5DIII, i know it's asking for trouble (N vs C), but should be educational

Thanks Jared for this amazing review. The Nikon D750 great camera, for me it is the best all around Nikon DSLR.

Great video quality, etc but that is not a stable shot. Even with stability added in post it'll look weird. My suggestion? Always use a stabilization rig, a monopod, or a tripod to shoot video. It makes it look more cinematic in all aspects, unless you're going for shaky cam and making a sequel to Cloverfield then you're fine.
@Qbal30009 жыл бұрын
also for video, as far as nikon dslrs, i would rather have a d810

Thank you for this thorough video, Jared. Although I don't have the cash to use or own this equipment, I can apply the concepts on my DSLR for photo and video. Keep doing what you're doing!
