Even to this day, Steven, the FM2 is one of Nikon's stalwart camera bodies, & I still use mine on a regular basis, together with my FM, F3 & F4.....they're (all) robust, hard working units that I suspect will outlive me - a small (but fitting) legacy for my son....

Having a child made me a photographer. Before my daughter I took photos on my phone for fun. Now I'm holding my first Leica (M2) and I only started shooting since she was born 4 years ago. I just started shooting with a point & shoot digital in July 2021 and only started shooting film since October 2021 😂. First my daughter gave me the photography bug. Now seeing you and other photographers inspire me to work hard with photography. 🙏🏼

Just saw your video now, very enjoying hearing your story, i recall at almost the same year i got scholarship in Japan (Tokyo) around 1994 - 98, i was very dreaming about NIKON, almost every weekend i went to Yodobashi kamera at Shinjuku just to see the Nikon and try it, as well as go to ginza for seeing a shop who specialized only for secondhand NIKON (I still remember its located at the corner of the street at Ginza). After 2 years of saving finaly i bought my 1st used NIKON FM2 at Ginza store. Again seeing your video is waking up my sweet memory at TOKYO when i first time falling love with photography 🙏

It's so nice to hear someone talking about the old days of shooting photography in China. My father used to have a Seagull in the 90s and he had shot so many precious moments of my childhood with it. Salute to you guys! Now I started shooting film myself about three years ago and I had a Nikon FE as my first camera!

Very real memories, as a peer of course, I have the same feelings, but I stayed at Ricoh mechanical SLR camera back then, and I spent nearly a year of savings to buy a Ricoh mechanical camera. After all these years, I still have this camera, in fact, I know that the value of this camera has far exceeded its value, and for me personally, it is a history. It means a lot!

Steven, can never tire of hearing your history and aspiration for a Nikon FM2. I bought an FM2 in about 1995 and have never regretted it. Super accurate light meter and sharp Nikkor lenses help us tell a story whenever we travel. Since then I have added a Pentax Spotmatic, Kodak Retina IIIC and Leica M3 to my collection, even as I saw the price of film rise to high levels. When I was in college, a 36 shot of slide film maybe cost around $5.75 per roll. Now it is nearly $40 per roll, which is upsetting because color slides are so sharp and vivid. Film makers do face inflation too, but they should remember the many film shooters who are loyal to film and its qualities. Nice of you to share your story. ❤❤😊

Wonderful story and great images. I owned a Nikon FM2 in the 90's also and lived in Bangkok Thailand. We both lived through great changes in Asia at that time, the globalization of the economies and the beginning of the internet. Some of my favorite images made at that time were with my FM2.

Hello Steven. First of all I must tell you that I really enjoy your videos. It is strange but next to all these technical review videos you find nowadays a video of a man telling a personal story about this equipment in a soothing voice is much more interesting. I am a few years younger than you, born in 77, and did not buy my first own camera until 2006, which of course was a digital. Only in 2012, when I shared an office with a guy who was deep into BW photography I started to look into film photography. Back then was the time, when every professional dumped the film equipment and went digital. And it was glorious. You could pick all the wonderful stuff up for next to nothing. I do own a Nikon F2AS (for wich I looked for a long time, serial number says it was built the month I was born) and a Nikon F3 nowadays. But the first was the FM2. It was a wonderful piece. But I must admit, placing it next to the F2 and F3, I stopped using it. I just enjoy tactile feel of F2 and F3 much more. And while the results are the same and the FM2 is of course small and light, the feel is really important to me. As you said in your last sentence: you might not understand the difference, until you hold the F3. Just the feel of the lever is worth the extra. For that reason I am so astonished, that the F3 today is cheaper than the FM2. I by the way also own and use a Hasselblad 501CM and Toyo 45A view camera. From the content I saw of you so far, you always stayed with 35 mm film, did you not?

I stumbled on your channel a few days back and have been thoroughly enjoying it. Being in my 70s living in Pakistan I can fully relate to your longing and experience of owning the FM2. After years of saving I finally managed to pickup my FM2N in Hongkong where I was on a business trip. Now I own the venerable F3HP but still love the FM2. Your channel is so down to earth and so honest please keep it coming.

I love your videos Steven! Great information about cameras I'm looking to buy as expected, but seeing photos of Shanghai and China is an added bonus. I was born in Shanghai in 1986 and moved to Melbourne in 1992, so I don't have much memory of those "quiet years" by the time I went back for a visit in 2000 it had changed completely.

@StevenTanno
@StevenTanno Жыл бұрын
和iso没有关系、fm2是動相機、改iso沒有意義。你可以買一張灰卡、把它放在你要拍攝的主體同樣的光線下、用fm2測光。按這個結果拍攝看看。
