Nikon Z30 First Impressions | Better than the Sony ZV-E10?

Nikon has been slowly building out their APS-C Lineup with the Z50 the Zfc and now the all new Nikon Z30. The Z30 is geared towards content creators that need a smaller setup but still provide optimal image quality, 4K video, flip out display and built-in mics. Does the Nikon Z30 best the Sony ZV-E10 in this category of camera? Check out our first impressions to find out more.

Z30 and Sony Zv-E10 are similar however there are differences. Nikon Z30 has 4K with No crop, while ZV-E10 has a crop. Both have digital stabilization options. Sony has S-Logs while Z30 has flat picture profile to extend dynamic range and 2 hr 1080HD record time and tally light. The Z30 is only 20mp in apsc which actually performs better in low light for low noise than 24mp of Sony for photos because pixel pitch is bigger for the lower 20mp Nikon camera. Apples to oranges however the Nikon wins in my opinion overall.

Most important thing to mention for vlogging is the vastly better rolling shutter over the zve10

Having watched a couple of reviews, i thought that the sound quality from the stereo mic has been more than decent. I like the fuller, slightly bassier sound. Picks up lots of ambient sound though, so not suitable for crowded places.

Yes the mics are good but all mics similar to this design will pick up ambient sounds. It was quite crowded there

Nikon should kit an external mic/recorder + dead cat w/the Z30. Internal mic is for scratch audio only imo. Maybe it's time for them to invest in a budget audio kit or maybe small rig has a kit idk. *The trick is to use 2 padded double sided pieces of tape, folded into a triangle, sandwich the mic between the pieces at the edge of a flat side. Place on chest pointing upward. Stops wind, outside ambient noise, and fabric from rubbing. (Credit: MarkusPix)

Noo z30 has very minimal rolling shutter but in zve10 it can be fixed through catalyst browse

Nikon z series has almost no rolling shutter issues, it's not in competition as It's already way ahead of everything else in the market for that.

If they can open the Z mount to Viltrox, and make a crop equivalent of their 28f2.8 in a compact 18f2.8, I'd buy in. It would be a great starter kit Z30, Viltrox 13f1.4, Viltrox 23f1.4, and a potential compact 18f2.8 Z lens. This would be perfect for travel, street photography, documentary, and family snaps. It's all in the lenses now. ✌️

Which camera is the best for video purpose nikon z30 vs sony zve10??? I watch the lot of video's ... the sony zve10 have crop issue in 4k video and shacki footage and nikon z30 are only 4k video footage 28min only bcz of heating issue and nikon have are not crop the footage in 4k suggest me which are better for me I want to purchase the 60k to 70k budget camera pls tell me ? and which have good stabilizer video tell me ??

Not many shoot long takes over 28 min. Most are short takes which the Z30 will handle well. I like the Z30 more than the ZVE10 for the feel, battery life and overall performance

i need some help ,webcam test with elgato its still 720p at 60 fps or 1080p 60 fps ? i need 1080p 60 fps, and in future i need 4k 60 fps dslr webcam maybe full frame . thx in advance for help

4K 60p for webcam isn’t happening right now haha. Need to wait a few years. We are just getting 4k60 internally on more cameras

@@GeekCulture sorry to say but logitech rally its ready from many years but i want dslr mirrorless to use as webcam , i know many people using dslr mirrorless as webcam and other device as webcam but its verry expensive +5k usd ... and for now i dont have +5k usd to invest in this 4k 60 fps webcam mode...

I use a variety of cameras and yes you can have it but my comment was about this camera. 4K 60 is taxing on a camera system especially with larger sensors hence the high price point

from videos I can tell ZVE-10 has a longer battery life and doesn't overheat as much as Z 30 does.

Just use iphone or any phone if you guys want to vlog urself, it's built in with a phone as well... 🤪 i dont understand why ppl wants to vlog their face walking around with an big interchangeable camera (bigger than a phone)

I think its all a bit self perpetuating. Its a video style thats gone out years ago, no one walks around anymore. What this camera is really useful as is a stuio camera on a tripod or light broll camera or inconspicuous event camera. A additional camera to your 'big' camera 👍😆

Lol if u want good pictures for printing and displaying in big screens u need a dedicated camera....I own s22 ultra and I hate the artificial images captured from smartphones...and I have used iphones, pixels....nothing beats a dedicated camera.... Artistically photos from dedicated cameras has some life to them which is lacking in teenie sensors of smartphone

It doesn't need it. Maximum video bandwidth is 144 Mbps when recording 4k @ 30p, same as the Z fc, equivalent to 18MBps. That is a walk in a park for UHS-I cards.

dissapointing camera. they just made their version of zve10 with less features, no gyro stabilization and no headphone port. no upgrades so annoying. canon is leading now with their new r10.

The gyro stabilisation is needed because the Sony is so small. Even with it it doesn’t smooth everything out. I found the Nikon to be just as good due to the size and weight. The R10 isn’t like this camera at all. Different product category.

Don’t forget these are targeted to vloggers not photographers so small camera is much required. Seems Nikon has a lot to learn. They could’ve just copied and added features, instead they made their version and lack features

Releasing a cheaper camera than anything else in the lineup usually means leaving out some features that are in the more expensive models. That's how it always works. This camera does have features and also accessories that have been made with vlogging in mind, so I don't see a problem marketing it as such

Actually they didn’t really remove. They designed it catering to content creators. The omission of the headphone Jack was our only real issue but if you are filming yourself, chances are you aren’t wearing headphones while filming 😊

Curiously I am thinking of moving away from using a viewfinder, instead opting to experiment with using the screen for composing, precisely due to my glasses and relatively poor vision (Approx. -13 diopters on both eyes. Yes. Minus thirteen. Not a misprint.) However I am mostly into video in the studio and granted, not using a viewfinder may not be optimal in all situations, like for instance during event photography.

2 years to late, when you look at the new canon R7 this looks like a toy. Even when you compare it to the ZVE10 at least that has gyro stabalisation. I really hope Nikon get the Z8 out soon, I predict their mid market is tanking at the moment

The ZVE10 is so small and lightweight that it needs that stabilisation to help compensate for the size. The Z30 to me is a much better feeling camera. The mid market right now isn’t making as much as the top end market for cameras so let’s see what happens if this trend continues. As for a Z8, I’m sure something like that will come soon

They are totally different products aiming at very different users. What’s of greater importance by far is what other apsc lenses Nikon release just like what Canon have rumoured to come.

So an expensive ZV-E10 with far inferior lens mount, no gyro data, no logs, product focus thing (sounds like a gimmick but the feature is actually useful.) and record limits.

I would argue the Z Mount is perhaps better than the E mount. It’s larger and allows a lot for flexibility in lens design

Much better kit lens - better ergonomics - better rear screen - auto iso and wb and metering that seamlessly works.
