Thank you for the setup video. Just got my Z50 and very impress; I have the FTZ adapter and continue using my old 18-55 kit lens, 55-300 lens and 35mm 1.8 prime. Just love it and a dream to use, great to hold and for portability in comparison to the heavy D7200 it's exceptional. Bit concerned about the durability of the LCD touch screen but it's probably fine and just me being over protective.

Your’s is the most immediately comprehensible review of Z50 settings I’ve viewed. I purchased the Z50 with the pair of kit zooms when first released to serve as a compact, lightweight alternative to my full frame Nikon DSLRs when that’s what best suited the circumstances, and camera has exceeded expectations. BTW I wondered how you were capturing the menu screens in real time. You answered my question when you got to the HDMI setting.

Oh boy! Thanks! I just got a Z50, (coming from a 13 year old Canon Rebel xTi, and the Nikon just overwhelmed with the number of choices and options. This video is just what I needed to figure out stuff like, back button focus, which seems ergonomically easier on this than on the Canon, btw. 🙂

I have the Sony a7iii and my friend recently purchased the Nikon z50 and I was very impressed. I examined and compared images by both cameras and the a7iii at best was half a stop better.

Hi, great video with lots of info, thanks 👍 Is it possible to re-assign the exposure compensation button? I always shoot fully manual, so exp-comp has always been a redundant button for me and, when I get a Z50, I would like to change it to focus point types i.e. to toggle between single point, group, face detect etc. The movie record would be changed to metering modes and then it would be pretty much set up the way I want it. Thanks in advance.

Agreed most useful on YT...I've been told to go to A4 for Af activation, Back focus, but no one ever mentioned setting up the actual setup button in F2..How do I get a Mechanical shutter?..I'm trying to shoot the 11fps as advertised by unable to...Do I need a spec lens or am I in the wrong modes?..Also need to set up highlight peaking for low light and I'm seeing the red, yellow highlights in manual focusing

Hi Hudson! Thanks again for making these videos. I've taken the autofocus off the shutter and it's very helpful. It seems like releasing the AF-On button leaves the focus wherever it was last positioned. Is there some difference between using it like this and using the AF-Lock function to lock the focus?

Hi Hudson, first time I've watched one of your videos. Some great explaining 👍 One question I have is, you mention the milky way and astrophotography, do you use the z50 for this? It is something I aim to do but haven't found any advice on the matter for this camera. What settings do you use? What lens? And do you use any other equipment, like a star tracker? The z50 is my first camera and I have next to no experience. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers in advance. Luke.

Hudson On my Z50 the custom controls (shooting) the FN 1 button is set for WB. My question is how do you change that? I cant get it to change to another option. Thanks Duane

Great video! I am thinking about getting a z50. When you are shooting in manual mode with auto iso if you press the e/v (+/-) button and move the back dial does it change the exposure compensation by adjusting the iso up or down?

This is the first time I've watched one of your video's and it was a very well thought out and informative video! I'm not a professional photographer but do photography as a hobby and pure enjoyment. I also take photographs for the local fire department. I have had a Z50 for approximately 9 months but it has sat on a shelf for most of that time. I have a love/hate relationship with it! I grew up using the view finder because I would hold the camera against me which helped stabilized the camera. As I have become older I need the stabilization even more due to have tremors. I tried using the Z50 view finder but either my nose or cheek would turn the touch screen on. (If I turned it off) It has been frustrating for me and Im planning on selling the Z50 because of that and I dont want to change formats and having to buy a new style of lenses. I will just stick with my D7100, D810, P900, or D3300. Again a really great video. Best wishes Duane

Interesting video. I'm doing mainly wildlife, at the moment using a D7500 (+4/300 PF and TCs), and the Z50 may do the trick as a second body, especially when travelling. What I got from you review is that the high ISO performance isn't quite as good as the D500 / D7500, both pretty amazing at high ISO. Alright, that means a bit more work in PP. But how good is the AF really, compared to the D7500 (which is pretty close to the D500)? Especially when it comes to small birds? That's what I'm still not clear about. Any thoughts?

Last night was a big test for me, for years I've been doing a corporate head shoot once a month and a major shoot for the same corporation once a year.In the past I've used I've used different systems including phase one medium format the older Nikon's and even micro four-thirds but now it's the z7 for the group shot of some hundred or so people and had great results and as a second body using a different system for the headshots. Last night I used the Z50 with the 50 mm 1.8 Z mount lens for head shots with great results. Hoo ray! But I do have a couple of issues... My damn nose rubs against the enlargement icon on the back LCD of the Z50 all the time, so I have to stop and reduce the enlargement to continue shooting it's a real pain in the rear end I tell you. I don't think there's a way to turn it off, but hopefully there will be a much larger eye cup available in the future to keep my nose away. Secondly, no matter how I seem to set the power off delay the camera goes to sleep all the time and I have to tap the shutter button to wake it up....maybe I have missed something in the setup and I've only had the camera for a week or so. Anybody have any feedback?

I shot 850 images with 2 second exposures using intervals of 50. No problem with the z50 battery.

About BBF, even if you leave Shutter/AF-On to On, when back button focusing, the shutter doesn't trigger another AF-On while pressing shutter. So, it's still essentially BBF, but when you want to quickly shoot something you still have option of using just the shutter button for AF-On and take photo.

Hi, I'm confused when using A-priority mode, between Auto ISO with max threshoild value and the minimum shutter speed. I find that my camera is not respecting the min shutter speed. How does this come? Thanks a lot

Hi Henry Did you ever actually try to set up back button focus on the Z50? or you had assumed that if it works on the Z6,7's then it would work on the Z50? Practically, changing the menue in the a4 - AF activation and in g2 - custom controlls to AF ON does not do anything to the AE-AL back button .... I would love to get your comment on that.

i had d5300 and now z50 , on the manual mode i wanna to do this : i need to control aperture when i hold the (+/-) boutton on the top and the playing with scroll wheel , on the same time. Hallo,I am more of a user of the video functions and the Nikon Z50 has its own switch between photo and video mode. Unfortunately, I cannot find any function in video mode to put the start-stop on the normal trigger button. Am I making a mistake or is there not this possibility?I find the video button itself difficult to access.

I am trying to optimally grab my gear within $1000 along with a single kit lens, maybe a hundred dollars give or take, in that regard, my options as available in my region are XT30, M6 MKII, Z50 & A6400. It would mean a world to me if you could help me decide my first ever gear.
