This camera is absolutely amazing. I love it so far after having three sessions this weekend since I got on release day. Yes, the jpgs were so good especially on the natural light images.

Have you noticed that it doesn’t let you override the af in afc all area with facial recognition like it did with the z6ii and z7ii. Or is this what 3D is better for in the place of that previous function?

Thank you for the demo. Do you think photography nowadays with super fast AF is more boring? Mostly you just have to hold the camera in the direction an fire. In ten years KI will make the rest.

Thank you for alway sharing, Taylor. We learn a lot from your videos. Also love you sense of humour! Question: was your ISO set on Auto or you set it based on your experience? And, without a mechanical shutter how did you set your shutter speed? Any tips on that? I am saving money to get myself the Z8 as my first mirrorless camera coming for a DSLR system - D750. Keep posting!!!!

I tried automatic settings but ended up just setting my iso instead. You can see exactly what your exposure is, so manual photography isn’t that hard any more. For shutter I just make sure it’ll freeze whatever movement I’m trying to capture

What did you use for the screen record? I have used my Atomos Ninja 5 but its add some weight to the camera. Thank you!

I use a Ninja Star. It’s only really works like this for Nikon and Fuji tho

The EVF view with overlay is really good for educational material. It’s great to see that Nikon has finally caught up to the competition with regards to AF.

Hi Taylor, I am seeking clarification on the functionality of the SnapBridge app in relation to focus area selection within the Z8 camera during video recording. I have received some conflicting information on this matter, and a definitive understanding of this function is crucial for my workflow. The first report says that after setting the camera's autofocus mode to AF-S you can use SnapBridge for the selection of the focus area by tapping on the smartphone or tablet screen. This further implies that the focus itself will adjust itself automatically within the selected area. The second report contradicts the first one by stating that the Z8's autofocus system and focus point selection operate independently of any actions taken within the SnapBridge app, and that app cannot be used to either initiate autofocus, or alter the selected focus point. According to that report, tapping the screen in the app only provides a reference image, which doesn’t have any real-world impact on the camera's functionality. I would be immensely grateful if you could help me clarify the accuracy of these claims. Thank you for your time, Alan

Thanks for this Jackson! Given that the Nikon Z series is notorious for its terrible autofocus, especially in low light, I own a z7ii and I hate it to the point of considering changing to Canon or Sony, would you say Nikon finally got their things together with the Z8?

What do you think is better in terms of focus, canon R6 or Nikon Z8? I use the R6 and it's an understatement to say that I'm overjoyed, the focus is in the realm of science fiction, really.

They’re very close. R6II probably better. R6 (unless they’ve updated the firmware) I didn’t love that you couldn’t hit left/right on faces and cycle between people

Hi, I notice you are using a monitor to record the photos you are taking. Can this recording be clean HDMI out vs having all the info displayed to a Ninja V? I hope that makes sense. Love your video and content, by the way.

1/100 at a reception wide open is pretty scary. You're saying you notice white balance changes at 1/200, right? Because of the overhead lights?

1/100 with moving subjects everything is blurred, so this review is not realistic shooting stills. This is about showing video images instead of stills, you don't want to see the stills of what he shoots there cause it is a blurry mess.. Makes me wonder, is the Z8 not good at 1/320 and faster with higher iso..

[problem solved!] I use a Luke Skywalker halloween mask to test focus (he never complains), somehow the camera doesn't find the face once I get a certain distance. Once my wife stepped into the frame, it worked just fine. Please help! I just got the z8, I have face detect enabled - it works but... but when I move farther away than a 1/2 the person's body in viewfinder (say knees to head), it won't detect a face. I've tried three lens (50mm prime-sigma, 85mm 1.4 prime Nikon and 24-70mm zoom Tamron). Do I have some setting wrong? I'm on 2.0 firmware. I'm on AF-S (same happens in AF-C mode) with a few different AF area modes - wdie C1, wide C2 and full view.

Curious how the autofocus is when you are stopped down to around 5.6 / 8 in low light. I find that most mirrors cameras perform o.k. at wide apertures but fail a bit stopped down when you need to do that.

I didn't know that camera doesn't focus on wide open aperture until I bought Z6Ii a month ago. That + no focus assist grid from flash is killing me.

I use the back button focus to lock focus, so there is no need for switching to AF-S

..and you can program a button just for FX/DX toggle, so you only have to press for DX and press again for FX.

How come no one has compared the Nikon Z8 Autofocus to the Lumix S5II? I wonder whose autofocus is better? The price is really not comparable, but I just want to know whose autofocus is slightly below Sony and Canon

there’s a way to decrease how erratic the af is in the settings.

Yeah there is stickyness setting where you can adjust sensitivity plus subject type erratic/steady

All Z series struggled in dark places regardless of the S lenses. That's why I keep the DSRL's on my side. Regular cameras perform better in an Alamond ochard wedding venue.

No fully articulating screen and video can only shoot to one card. So sadly I won’t be buying a z8. Might shoot one for a few more weddings since the internal evf record is great for teaching
