I handled the Z 9 last night at a local Nikon "Touch 'n Hold" event. Thing is awesome. Check this,...the table that held the Nikon gear was covered in a black cloth,....and I happened to holding the camera,...with the VF away from my eye,...and using the Rear monitor,...and the AF point was tracking the black cloth,...with "ZERO" hunting! It was focusing on "Black",..in Low Light,...where there was no perceptible contrast,...and doing it with ease! I had never seen a camera do that,...Freak'n amazing!

Great video, awesome BTS and I learnt quite a few things with lighting setup. At 4:20 I see a motorized focus module attached to the lens. Was the camera still autofocusing or was it a choreographed automated focus pull? Please clarify.

Excellent video... Yep, I'm a Z6 and Z7 shooter and have pretty much always been with Nikon since I started over 20 years ago except for a 2 year stint where I switched over to Sony with the A7s2 and the A7r. As soon as the Z cameras came out I switched back. I have a huge collection of Nikon glass. In the last few months I've bee pondering switching to canon for the auto focus. But I was really dreading not having the easy switch for video/photo with settings saved in such a convenient way for dual shooting weddings. But the Z cameras weren't focusing in shadow all that well so I've lost some shots. Kinda didn't want to do any more serious work like that with the Z6/7. Upgrading to the second versions did seem like the best thing to do.. The Z9 is it! I'll be getting 2!

All I can say is WOW!! Yours is absolutely the best I've seen on KZfaq. The video is the most impressive so far in highlighting the Z9's capabilities.. I find myself wanting to purchase a Z9 right now. From what I'm hearing from larger retail camera outlets, the response has been tremendous and camera orders have gone through the roof, I'm sure it will be next year before I can get one. Could you please tell me how Nikon chooses who gets a pre production camera to test? I suppose ambassadors and large retail outlet reps and KZfaqrs like Ricci in the UK.

Very interesting "behind the scenes." 120fps seems ridiculously great, and the video looks almost like a medium-format camera in the depth that it had. Were you using standard Nikon glass, or cine lenses? The camera mounted on the rail during your interview moved way too fast for my preference. It was a distraction with the background moving constantly rather than an esthetic touch.

How does the Z9 avoid banding under certain strobing lights? There are some tube lights that looked like fluorescent (but could have been LED?) that I got severe banding with when using electronic shutter. Mechanical shutter fixed it. So can the Z9 avoid this without having a mechanical shutter?

Have you tested the Z9 with strobes, or just with continuous light? Does it allow AEB with a Radio trigger mounted (particulary Godox/flashpoint}

How was the noise at that high of an ISO?

Amazing! It does so much more than I will ever be able to utilize. I'm tempted to buy one anyway, although I'll soon be 80 years old and kind of winding down a little. I would so love to use it for wildlife photography and street photography along with environmental portraits.

ISO 20000! OMG - where's the noise! I've read & watched hours on the pre-release Z9 & am having difficulty believing what I'm seeing. Nikon have been accused of under-marketing their cameras in the past but not with this one. The main issue will be can Nikon fulfil the demand that will surprise them who probably already know they are about to launch a ground-breaking product.

Great camera if it was released 2 years ago. Too many people like myself have already jumped ship from Nikon and Canon to Sony. Both Nikon and Canon decided to continue d to drag their heels with renovation for way too long and continue to cling to DSLR's and choose to watch with a smirk after Sony released and progressed their mirrorless system. The Nikon Z9 is or will be an amazing camera but most cannot afford to jump back and there is not enough reason to do so. Sony's Eye Autofocus is already leading the field by a mile. It will now take another 2-5 years to possibly win those people back but they won't all the time Sony keeps pushing forward. Sony over the last 2 years has dragged its heels but with the release of the A7s3 and the A74 they are doing enough to hold their market share. Sorry Nikon/Canon, you missed the boat. Love Jerry's work though, great photographer and presenter!!!!
