Whichever of the 3 cameras you use, none of them will disappoint you. If price-performance is what you are looking for, the Nikon Z9 is definitely the right choice.

Great review guys! I've been toying around with high shutter speed video to take frame grabs. My A7iv can can shoot the downsampled 4K and then give me some some pretty detailed stills. I can shoot at 60 fps and get 4K sized stills out of it. With a stationary subject I don't need that high shutter speed in video but with birds in flight or birds taking off and landing it's necessary for freezing the motion for the still frames. It's nice that even the lower priced cameras have some of the features of the flagship cameras. Thanks for your time and energy for these videos and happy shooting!

As a Sony A7III shooter my dream Camera would of course be the A1, I just wish they put a higher res more tiltable LCD on it. Yes the EVF is great but that 1 way tilt screen is annoying to use for low angle portrait orientation shots, a 2 way tilt screen would be very appreciated. If I didn't have any investment in to any brand the Z9 looks to offer great value in a flagship body, also nice to see Nikon back in the game.

Thank you for the video ! All 3 cameras would suit my needs but I do appreciate the ability to crop that a hi-res sensor offers. I own the R5 and would love the R3 as my 2nd body. I would pick the right lens to avoid cropping on the R3

Great comparison review, guys. Much appreciated. With all these options and performance features, do they take away the fun of taking photos? I mean now that you have to focus on tuning and retuning these feature settings. For anyone to use any of these cameras for the first time, can we still grab the camera, start shooting and have fun right away, instead of spending 2 sleepless nights to learn the functionality before we can use the cameras? My brain hurts as like you guys say these cameras are neck-to-neck. However, R3 is not Canon's flagship yet they say. I wonder if the Canon's flagship is actually a transformer robot camera.

I think it's great Nikon caught up. Canon and Sony users have been enjoying the spoils of amazing AF for a few years. It's exciting for Nikon's fan base/users. It's great for the industry as a whole. All these cameras are exceptional.

Can you guys later do a test to see if the Nikon Z9 and Sony A1 have the backlight striping issue because of the phase detection? I know Canon does not have that issue with their dual pixel technology.

Nikon Z9, for the build quality and ruggedness of flagship. ALso future proof with lenses. On top of S line lenses , can adopt F mount lenses, RF mount and even E mount lenese. Only mount that can adopt any lens, makes perfect sense.

i used the canon 7e eye control focus with glasses and it worked for me,i guess it must be great on the r3 and hopefully on more models in the future

The Z9 is the reason I made the jump to Nikon from Sony. While i cant afford it yet, its on my radar and main goal. Ive gotta say, Nikon is underrated, and theres a level of history and knowledge you cant really ignore.

I have a Sony camera so it’s hard not to be biased towards the A1. That said the Z9 is probably the most appealing and exciting. It’s good to have Nikon back in the game.

Which camera? If you're already are invested in one brand my advice is stay with what you have and stop watching these comparison videos. If you don't own anything now, all I can say is good luck. What may seem right for you today will change in a matter of months. e.g. when the Canon R1 is announced the conclusions from this video is going to be very different from today. When the A1 II is announced things will be different again, as when the Z9 V2 firmware is announced. My advice is to select the brand based on the lenses that meets/will meet your needs and stop watching youtube videos that compare brands. 🙂

With 3 camera bodies pretty much offers the same performance. If you really have to decide on one, assuming you don’t have any gears on hand. Nikon has the best price tag!

11mp is a full newspaper page at the typical 200dpi and the 12x22.75” newsprint commonly used today! Everyone jokes that it’s only 11mp. There are still plenty of uses for those sized images.

I think with the new firmware update Z9 will add the option of shooting 30 fps RAW along with 8k video 60fps.

fair and honest review of the strengths and weaknesses of the various cameras discussed. Canon and Nikon seems to be better built than the Sony and ergonomics of the Sony wasn't on par with the Canom and Nikon when I tried the 3 cameras recently at a camera store when holidays in France.

Which to choose for fast action? The Nikon 500mm PF is an outstanding lens which can not be matched by Canon nor Sony. Small, light and incredibly sharp makes choosing the Z9 as a partner an easy decision. Having the Nikon Z 400mm f/2.8 TC available, although at an expensive price point, only reinforces that decision for past action work. The Z9 is, also, a vastly superior camera for video photography where Nikon's Z line of lenses excel with comparatively low lens breathing, superior autofocus and outstanding sharpness. Lastly, contrary to your assertion that 120 f/s at 11 mp is only good for social media, such is perfect for the agency fast action photographer.

I like the Nikon Z9. I hope they'll upgrade autofocus on Z & Z 7 via firmware update.

Being a Z6 shooter am pretty happy that the Z9 is competing head to head with the others! Hopefully some features will trickle down to the lower end cameras in a future edition! But I must applaud sony which is the main reason why mirrorless is where it is now!

I wonder if the color of ones eye helps with tracking. If you have black or brown eyes is it harder to track because of contrast. With blue, and green eyes the the black pupil in the middle and then having blue or green that's a good amount of contrast I would think to lock onto ones eye?

Comparaisons, differences and analyzes that one makes between brands should always take into account the price of each unit and this should be clearly expressed at the beginning and at the end of your exercise. Must say , you are comparing the Sony A1 sold at your store for $8498.00 ca, the Canon R3 for $7999.00 ca and finally the Nikon Z9 for $6999.00 ca. To these figures we must not forget to add the federal and provincial taxes. These elements are of very great importance and far from being negligible. Consequently, and when you put things into perspective, it definitely has a significant impact on the client. For me that is the reason you should indicate the price.

All these cameras are unattainable for me and way beyond my hobbyist needs, but it would be interesting to know which feature off each of these cameras would you like to see "trickle down" into future enthusiast cameras?

09:30 Why should 11MP be only for web pictures? I know high fashion magazins from the 2000s that used 8MP cameras like a Nikon D2H and you see no pixels at all. The Alpha 7 S series has 12MP and of couse can be used for most print works. JPG of course gives limitation compared to RAW (and the question is how much of a 4k120p would also be usable on the Alpha 1), but 11MP can be used for maaaaaaaaaany things. People forget that.

already now my dream camera in tha A1 and would buy is multiple times over again if given the choice between the 3. The images coming out of this camera are incredible and doing fashion photography with it is insanely good along with dance photography. literally this camera does everything I need to and more.

With Z9, U don't need an external storage any more. That's a good enough reason to change a camera system.

You guys did not mention PRICE! By the time you buy the A1, grip and extra battery your $1500 above the Z9, the canon is $500 makes a big difference.

I shoot motorsports all the time and a real tests would be at slower shutter speeds. You don’t want to freeze the motion, I normally start at 1/160 and go down from there. Any faster you freeze the tires and the car looks like it is parked.

Hello, As a Nikon shooter sorry. What I would say if any one is thinking about moving from DSLR cameras to mirrorless it is an amazing time. I have found that I now have the Z7ii and it is a learning curve especially with the focus modes. So I if any one was thing of changing, Please go to a store and try each out first. Yes I am happy with the Nikon Z7ii and have ordered the Z9 will they make me a better photographer NO, will they make my life easer NO and will the make my hit rate higher I hope so. It will be fun trying. Keep well, keep safe and enjoy life.

It’s so crazy that 11Mp is being downplayed as “web resolution”… The Isocell HP1 exists, so I think Sony’s 50Mp camera is only good for “web resolution” images….

Considering also Video capabilities of these three flagship, the Z9 is the clear winner.

24 mp is maybe find for action. For wildlife we almost allways crop. 45 or 50 is much better then.

Really 7000-9000 bucks for body alone...I think not. I will stick to my high end M4/3rds G9 and buy the 200mm f2.8...perfect combo for my Sports and Action photography.

R5 would be a better fit here, R3 can't really compete with 24mp. Sony is the obvious choice for me, much bigger and cheaper lens selection, and I have a lot of hiking to do before any bird photography can begin so size matters a lot.

Apparently there's a depth of field issue highlighted by Hudson Henry Photography on all Nikon Z cameras including the Z9 where the depth of field does not go beyond f.5.6 on a f.2.8 lens.. Has anyone noticed this issue??

One thing people don't take into consideration for me is heat. For electronics, after fluids, it is the worst enemy for reliability and longevity. The simple example is with computer tech and how all the ventilation needed etc. Before it was ok on dslr because the sensor was working only when the actual photo was taken, but now it is always on. That is why for a flagship camera it is unforgiveable for me that their is any form of overheating. So I would never choose the Sony out of the 3, if I am using it professionally, except if I work only in cold climate all the time.

I could not sit through the specifications debate over these three cameras in another YT channel. A couple juvenile guys clearly frustrating a girl. This video here makes a lot more sense. As to "Yeah, but it is only 11MP"- let's remind ourselves of two things: (1) we may be looking at a 4K display all day and never complain and that's 8.3MP; (2) MP are an area unit like square meters or square feet and inform about the size of our files or what compute-power we need in the camera or in our post office, to process our shots. Differences in MP do not predict human perception of sharpness or detail resolution. Then we must go back to linear units - meters instead of square meters. This is age-old knowledge and the reason why resolution is measured in e.g. line-pairs per millimeter (since ages) - a linear unit. How does this "not area" but "linear" work? Well, a 6,000 x 4,000 image = 24MP but in order to get double the perceived sharpness or resolution, we need 2*6,000 x 2*4,000 = 96MP. This explains why a 12MP image of several years ago still looks surprisingly good today and it also explains why we may be disappointed over the difference between 24MP and 45.4MP. If we make the step beyond the 24MP then the only thing that breaks the ceteris paribus principle when comparing two, is that the camera with the higher than 24MP sensor generally will not have the fuzzy filter (*) anymore and hence contour sharpness increases more than implied by the linear resolution improvement. (*) fuzzy filter is what I call AA filters, or low pass, or. The fuzziness was thrown into digital photography to make raw processing easier. Raw processing is a mathematically precise and repeatable form of wild-assed guessing the missing colors in our raw files. It's compute-intensive and both in-camera (for JPEGs) and in post raw processing (to invent pixels with RGB) can be sped up by the fuzziness. And raw processing is a way to deal with curved lines and edges that look staggered if we do not take measures. The fuzzy filter concept was already applied by developers of Scanning Tunneling Electron Microscopes (STEM) in the 1970s when computing was very expensive and if dealing with AA could be made easier, then that bit of fuzziness was worth it. Now, after a couple decades of Moore's Law, compute power is very affordable and we do not need these fuzzy filters any more when resolution is high enough. The main reason to throw the fuzzy filter out, though, must have been that two filter layers over the sensor creates a tunnel over each photosite that causes vignetting and other issues (the reason why it took so long to get full frame and the reason why Leica took even longer to go full frame).

In the end it's all about the lenses. This is where Nikon is most appealing IMHO: - F mount lenses work better on the Z9 than on the D6 and that includes absolutely essential and unique options such as the 120-300mm f2.8, 180-400mm f4 with built-in TC, the 500mm f5.6 PF, - The new 400mm f2.8 with built-in TC and 800mm f6.3 PF have no equivalent, - The possibility to adapt Sony FE mount lenses, albeit with limited AF, is great too because it opens the door to many options.

This review kinda biased,. We can see Nikon autofocus doesn't good as like Sony and Canon,. But in this reviews it's kinda towards Nikon favor,. While we can see it's not that Good as it's advertised,.

No doubt about it as it hits all the right spots from two CF express slots i.e same card type slots , auto detect of animal or car or person and best of all Nikon colours and durability One thing i should point out that with canon R3 crop ability is less plus it cant be as suitable for fashion studio photography as much as Z9 or A1

If you're a pro, there's really only one choice here, and it's the Canon EOS R3. Best PRO Service in the industry, It's not even close.

I’d go for the Sony as it’s lighter and smaller than the others and at the moment there is more glass designed for mirrorless than either Nikon and Canon. Would be interesting for those who has DSLRs to know between the two how they work on Z9 and R3. And also you had a push release camera strap on the foot of the Sony 200-600 would like to know what that was as cant find it in your store or on peak design store.
