In this Color Of Conversation MVAAFF Co-Founder Stephanie Rance talks with Director of "The Nanny" Nikyatu Jusu. Nikyatu Jusu talks about how her mother was a domestic worker when she got older and that as a kid Nikyatu Jusu was very protective of her mother. She wanted to tell a story of resilience and not that of the victim. Nikyatu Jusu talks about the casting process and how she cast her lead character. Nikyatu Jusu talks about how humble her lead actress Anna Diop is and that she was so committed to her craft. It came down to who Anna was attracted to and Nikyatu could tell that Sinqua Walls was "making her tingle". Nikyatu Jusu says a good producers job is to find the resources to embolden the filmmaker. The symbolism of water and what it means in the film. Water has perfect memory and part of what this film is about is memory.
