One thing I have always loved about Trent's writing and style is that it's realistic. It's not too cinematic like most musicians. It's very raw and authentic. Real anger. Real bitterness. Real life. Some people hate that. They want to escape. This guy is really using music as therapy basically. It's how he is in real life. I feel that connects more easily compared to a lot of other artists.

I can still remember, in 1989, sitting in a car in a mall parking lot after i bought pretty hate machine on a cassette.....i was blown away by it....so different, so interesting...amazing... all these years later Trent's doing it to me again....

My sisters idiot boyfriend had one redeeming quality. It was 1990 and I was 10 and I grabbed his Walkman and started listening to pretty hate machine. Thanks to that dude I was introduced to a world of superb music. Guy was still a jackass though.

I think the power of this song is not what society thinks "Power" really is but instead the early adolecent childhood trauma where one thinks the whole reason for all of our problems is us.....and the reality is that we are not at fault....we were just kids trying ti figure out how to survive in a world where our parental figures had their own issues that they could not help us.
