@@schlomoubermann, I didn't have Pink Floyd at all in mind when I said that, I was thinking of some bands that had some elements of opera singing such as Magma (from France, active 1969 until today), or church music as on the 2nd album of the Offenbach band (from Québec, this album in 1972 is called "Saint-Chrone de Néant"). It also makes me think of the very theatrical witch-like voice of Devil Doll (from Italy/Slovenia, "Dies Irae" album, 1996). (But in all cases I give those examples also in part because of what the rest of the band does, not just the voice.)

The part that guitar dude comes in to harmonize the vocal line. He's at the top of the fretboard range to match her aaaaaaand then she leaps up an entire octave .... How the hell does a human voicebox do that.... And of course she interjects it with a few chicken clucks, because she's Nina goddam Hagen and she can do *anything* she wants, because she's a godess and we are mere mortals. So if she wants chicken clucks in an utterly divine guitar/voice duet , then by the might of the heavens, it shall be done.

None of the pieces “you” have ever written can seem to convey any emotions besides “corporate drab”. “You” are chained down by what is profitable, not what is inspiring. Your ego inflated so large you can’t see past your own big head. I applaud your marketing people, somehow they managed to make enough deals to get you on any chart. The only thing inspiring about “your” music is that some how, people put up with it enough that the stores you music is played in are still in business (although struggling and in decline.) Your career is proof that creativity is no longer appreciated. Mariah Carey, the house hold name of mediocracy, eye rolls, changing the radio station as fast as you can, and functionally alcoholic battered wives. Sure you can hit a note, that means nothing if the notes you hit are a chore to listen to, it means even less when you consider the army of people who put time in to your music OTHER than you. It’s shockingly sad that your “music” is palatable to enough of the general population to generate revenue. If you sing like an angel, I DON’T want to go to what ever heaven you believe in! Maybe I will hear one of your neurotic Christmas songs again next holiday season? Hopefully not.

Everybody is talking about the vocals and such. I speak German and it’s the lyrics. The vocals just push the emotions of „crying“ to a next level. Looking out on the window and sobbing? (Parts of the lyrics) This is how it sounds inside of you and Nina just described it in words and gave it a voice. That’s why I love punk and performances that show true passion. „Punkrock should mean freedom, liking and accepting anything that you like, playing whatever you want, as sloppy as you want, as long as it’s good and has passion“ - pg.99
@Donjonneau3 жыл бұрын
Except a genre doesn't mean you can do what you want, but rather do what you can from what you are inspired from (plus many other factors as mix of individual preferences and skills in music, their decisions together, and so on). Punk-Rock surely got a great deal of artists, but compared to many genres... You'll always find more doomed ones or more liberated ones. By the way, thanks to put the meaning of the lyrics, because I was waiting for that... I felt that there was a purpose, but I was only in a myst. So thanks! :)

@@Donjonneau The song is called "nature tears" and she describes looking out the window at night down on the city street and describes the scenery outside and she is overwhelmed with negative emotions and just cries. It is basically an anxiety attack put in a song (at least just judging from the lyrics, maybe there is a personal backstory she has). I find this song and this performance one of the best pop performances ever sung in German language. It might sound a bit surreal and extra but that entirely replicates the emotion one feels when just crying for no particular reason but the state of the world or one's life.

Man imagine having the balls to be this weird and crazy with your music. Badass 😂😂 I love her vibe and earrings. And the guitar player with that thick eyeliner is my fav. I grew up with pop music that nowadays is the mainstream, but on my years of listening to rock music and going as back as i can on the "rock timeline", i've realised that artists back in the day could come up with the weirdest and craziest song or way of singing and people would be like "yes, art. We vibe with this 😌". Now everything sounds the same and they try so hard to hit the "vocals" that they need to sound good. I dont think they could handle Janis Joplin way of singing.
