This IS Nina - crazy (or at least perceived as such - I'd say extraordinary and incredibly talented) and sweet, socially very engaged up to this day. Being about 10 years younger than her she also was idol for me and young women who wanted to break free from social roles (see her song "Unbeschreiblich weiblich" - "incredibly female" in the late 70ies). Thanks for reacting to her!

One reason why I love this song and why it's still so funny to me after all these years is the comedy/parody part of it. Like the bell (hitting everyone with the hammer) stuff at the beginning and her addressing the audience (which is part of the song) is pretty much how our main (tv) news starts, like you, hear the bell and know it's time for the evening news. And the audience would be addressed in a very serious manner. So within the first 20 seconds she shreds German tv habits (of that time) to pieces, in a comedic way

I soo WISH that you guys could understand the lyrics…… For me it is the crux of what Nina does: delivering pertinent, shocking, funny thoughts in a completely unmatched style. It’s really musical theatre through anf through…. You made the comment that she must be right at home on stage, doing her crazy thing, and I really liked that. What a good way to put it-. This song is an anti-anthem to the almighty TV set, -a big topic back then in some circles. “TV is a drug, TV is addictive!” is part of her refrain. It makes you eat all this chocolate, get fat, and basically dead inside. The big screen debate - already a topic back then…. She grew up with an actress mother, grew up surrounded by theatre, music, a supremely talented singer early on. And in this way it’s no wonder she gone into that direction. Nina sings with all of her soul. You’ve gotta love her for that 🔥💛🔥 Oh and that band?? Complete fire, too!! I heard them when they’d formed ‘Spliff’, and the funk and pocket were unbelievable 😱 One day you might get your hands on a translation of these lyrics, and listen to it again 😉 Thanks for reacting to one of my favourite singers 🙏

Please look at the Album from SPLIFF 85555 , the Nina Hagen Band 85555 ist ein Album der deutschen Rockband Spliff. Es erschien am 1. Februar 1982 bei CBS. Fun Fact: During the recording of her second album she and her band had a falling out. It ended in both her and the band never being in the studio at the same time. The band left her and changed their name to Spliff. I highly recommend you check them out. Also the album Nunsexmonkrock by Nina. It's a psychedelic masterpiece.

The first two albums still stand out as her best, and this is in large part due to her band, Spliff, she just never had a band like that again. Nina was difficult to work with (surprise) so they split up during the production of the second album. Spliff were just awesome musicians and had several hits plus gold/platinum records after Nina, but are somewhat forgotten since then. I love all of their work though, especially their most underrated album, the Spliff Radio Show.

Listen to Nina Hagen - Natur Träne. Natural Tears. Nina are educated as an operasinger. Born in East Berlin. Her Stepfather were East German writer Wolf Biermann. He had his citizenship revoked in 1976 and Nina followed him to Hamburg. She is born Catharina Hagen. On Natur Träne she sings opera and rock. Phenomenal song

Actually it's not "Natural Tear". It's "Nature Tear" but the meaning makes no sense in English I think. Even in German it has no real sense. It's more of a poetic term I think.

I started listening to Nina in the early 80ies, saw her live in Sweden when she was still with this band. I actually went to the concert by myself cause none of my friends liked her. I looked up her awesome synth player on google a few years ago, isn't he just amazing!

The song is about the superficiality of watching TV - looking at anything colourful uncritically, unable to move, no longer interested in literature and so forth.. So again it’s a serious subject that she is presenting comically.. She is so great

I am a Grandgrandpa (Musican) East German like Nina. I grow up with her Music and talk to here one time. Nina is Buddhist and in live verry introvert.Her Mother, Eastgerman T.V.- Star. Dad wright and sing Songs against Socialism and Communism. ( Behind the Iron Courten.

There are 2 stories I've heard about the punk Nina: 1) Johnny Rotten was terrified of her, and 2) she was banned from an Austrian TV talk show because she talked and demonstrated about female masturbation. Now she is a bit mellower ever since she became a "Christian". If ever "Hand Grenade" (about ineffectiveness of early HIV meds), or "Don't Kill the Animals" (with Lene Lovich and recorded for PETA) are requested, please play them.

The only rockband here in Germany that is maybe even better is the PANIK Orchester wit german rock legend Udo Lindenberg (who has a very unique voice too). Sadly we have not enough real rock bands here in my opinion. Luckily i even saw Spliff live in the 80ies here (believe it or not, it was a concert starting with Saga, then Spliff, Foreigner and Meat Loaf!)

How long did you know of song before this? You know the Tubes version,yes? I'm from the 80s. I knew of Tubes and Nina Hagen. I did not know if this till a couple or few years ago. Makes me sorry I didn't. Her American fame wasnt her best part of her career. As America waters down the true talent.

As a german i can confirm: what you are seeing is fucking nina. My parent listened to this music since the 80‘s and i couldn‘t relate to it for most of my life. But as i grew older and wisef i am like what zhe fuck!! What subversive and controversial music did my parents listen to on lsd. Im just so flashed that i cant describe. In the the 80‘s in germany that was a peak of feminism and fucking rocknroll and punktock while sung from an opera woman of the ddr. Its just fucking amazing and im so proud.
