Nina, I really enjoy your breakdowns. Here, dissecting how Gigi is changing up from Avril, her use of vowels, cries, and swoops. Also, commenting on the band: piano dancing fills, bass complimenting vocals, drum cymbals, guitar reverb. It's great to have a musician, singer and instrumentalist, react. Too many reactors on KZfaq know nothing about music.

As an Avril Fan and as a Gigi fan - this made my day! Thank you for the reaction! (Still like Avril‘s version better, I guess mainly for the power it conveys, while being fragile at the same time. Gigi is a killer vocalist - but this only shows, what a killer vocalist Avril also is!) (And I am anyways always digging songs in 3/4 or 6/8 like this one…!)

I love both Avril and Gigi's versions; they handle the dynamics with ease. Of course, Avril gets mad, mad props because she wrote this wonderful teen-angst song--it's timeless! Overall, Gigi is the more rounded singer as she has complete control of her vibrato whereas Avril rarely, if ever, uses vibrato [can she even?].

Gigi de Lana is a friend of Morissette Amon. Gigi soars in this Avril Lavigne song! Speaking of Canadian musicians... Strongly suggested video: Gigi de Lana sings Through the Fire X Piano in the Dark David Foster of Victoria , BC wrote the music to Through the Fire. He is also the producer and the pianist. Chaka Khan version.

I prefer both versions cuz they gave me different vibes. It's like same story happens to 2 different girls with 2 different personalities and each of them just reflex different reactions and feelings to the situation. I also think that the backup band didn't play 'tight' enough (the groove was kinda loose) on this song for Gigi. It's her voice that carried the song through. So it's hard to compare even that I'm a super huge fan of Avril.

@@ubeman1690 The reason I say ok, because I listen outside top music, Classically trained power houses, like: Sicilian Laura Macri (Opera Solo artist / band Mayan), Patricia Janečková (Slovakian Opera solo artist), commercial would Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Anneke Van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering), Simone Simons (Epica), etc. These vocalists are older and classical trained. Pop is very restrictive, you cannot do much with it. Floor Jansen has attempted Pop this year and had to tone it down with her power vocals. Gigi De Lana is young with a lot of potential and you never know her voice may mature with quality like fine wine. So can Gigi sing well? Yes. Good for her age? Yes.

Tell that to the other professional vocal coaches on KZfaq who also regard her as one of the very best in terms of vocals. Their standard as professionals must be extremely high, so your comment that Gigi has average vocals would not make sense to them. LMAO
