Episode 92
Ninja Gaiden III The Ancient Ship of Doom is the hardest game in what is almost certainly the most difficult trilogy for the NES! Not only does this game demand fast reflexes, but this time you only get FIVE Continues before its Game Over.
So you may be surprised to find out that when developer Tecmo released the original Japanese version, titled Ninja Ryukenden III, it was actually the easiest game in the series. So instead of just translating the text to English, the North American version got a massive overhaul!
So what happened that made Ninja Gaiden 3 so challenging, and how do we beat such a difficult game? In today's episode we'll find out, then we'll dive deep in to the gameplay where we'll learn:
* How to complete EVERY Act and Stage!
* SECRET TRICKS to gain INFINITE LIVES!
* ALL CUTSCENES are included - Enjoy the story as you watch!
* A SECRET CODE to get 99 CONTINUES - Never run out again!
* Techniques to DESPAWN dangerous enemies!
* The best NINPO MAGIC for every situation!
* EASY Strategies for EVERY BOSS, even the FINAL DEMON himself... AND MORE!
Thanks for watching!

@@maysintv9168 I have a PlayChoice-10 in my livingroom that I enjoy. I love playing Dr. Mario on it especially. Arcade controls feel funny for many NES games. You can find new carts that were not originally on the PlayChoice-10 like Tengen Tetris. There is at least one video of the PlayChoice-10 version on KZfaq. Looks the exact same to me. Punch-Out!!! in its PlayChoice-10 version has the only noticeable difference I know - it saves scores and you can input initials.

Of all the games you’ve done here this is probably the video I stand the best chance of knowing most of it (except the final boss) going in. 11 year old me wanted nothing more than this game for my birthday, and I got it. I played the HELL out of this, but younger me just couldn’t top the final boss. Decades later through emulation and save states I eventually did, but when I was a wee lad that bastard always had my number. I love this game, the story, the graphics, the music. Looking forward to watching this later.

Okay, I've been waiting for this video to tell this short story. My first exposure to this trilogy was actually not on NES, Virtual Console, or any of the other re-releases. I discovered this in the vanilla Ninja Gaiden reboot on the original Xbox. My bro and I were borderline obsessed with that game as teens and we collected everything. Much to our delight and surprise, 3 of the items in that game were cartridges for Ninja Gaiden 1, 2, and 3. You could take these cartridges to a specific spot and use them to play the NES games completely. I, thinking I was a badass for beating the reboot so many times, was sure I could handle these old games. I got totally destroyed in the NES games. Almost beat the first game, but gave up upon failing to beat the final boss for a 4th time. Beat the second game. Never got far in the third game. Man, those were good times. I kinda miss those days when you could sometimes find entire old school games hidden in newer games.

Ninja Gaiden 3 has some awesome music and graphics (especially considering its on the NES) but as far as which game is the best, I think I'm with you. Ninja Gaiden 2 is just so much fun and the story dovetails perfectly with the first game. You get a satisfying ending, the big bad defeated, get the girl, avenge your father, bring honor to your clan, and save the world. Doesn't get much better than that. Really impressive playthrough on the hardest game in the series. Can't wait for next week's episode. I'm really hoping some day you'll play through Capcom's Sweet Home. I still own my trilogy from back then in my game library and still holds up today as the greatest trilogy on the NES. I noticed long ago the background in area 4-a1 the sky and mountains are actually upside down. I wonder how that slipped by their testers and the team? They usually are very strict and fierce when it comes to checking everything three times, but that was a bit of an oversight. Still, it's pretty cool to have found that back in 1991 when I played this.

I can't believe that you didn't mention that ONE windmill throwing star will blow the face of the final boss off instantly. Well, no worries. Still another awesome vid by you!

I remember getting this game when I was a kid and I could never get past the 3rd lvl and I would get soooooo pissed off because of it. The few times I got to the 4th lvl I'd only have like 2 lives left no continues and I'd get destroyed 😂😂😂😂. Great video as usual keep up the great work💯💯💪💪👏👏

The only one of the three I could never beat without cheating. Thanks for the vindication! Also, is it just me, or does the dimensional warship look a lot like Jashin?

So Ryu may be a great warrior and a survivor, but he's terrible at being a Ninja. He lets people sneak up on him all the time, he announces his presence by shouting at the top of his lungs, and falls for trap doors time and time again. XD Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha Jokes aside, I really appreciate your rock-solid (Castle Rock solid? Badum tshhhhh) consistent uploads, interesting history lessons behind every game, and of course, your impeccable playthroughs. Thank you.
