Ok, I have a question though. Near the end, you said that the niagrastratial pathway modulates movement, I get how it enhances the direct pathway, but for the indirect pathway it seems like it increases the motor movement of unwanted motor movements. Isnt this counter productive? why would your body do that.

@yochinoinazaki3813 3 жыл бұрын
I didn t get that either..
@lukamiljic8193
@lukamiljic8193 3 жыл бұрын
Well, unwanted movement can become wanted movement if it is suddenly needed. So this pathway would be useful for adapting the movement according to your needs. It isn't something that exists to cause spasms, just to ease the transition of a movement going from the indirect to the direct pathway. At least that's how I see it.
@ash_xclusive
@ash_xclusive 3 жыл бұрын
I think that is because there also exist cholinergic fibres which affect the neurons in the putamen. But the difference is that dopaminergic fibres from the nigrastriatal pathway and cholinergic fibres have antagonistic action, so the net amount of ach and dopamine decides whether the indirect pathway is inhibited or stimulated. So, nigrastriatal pathway does help in modulation of movement. I hope I was of some help😇

Well I’m going to visit my family soon some of which are doctors. So I’ll be showing them this video and maybe they can sit me down and go over it with me. If I can make sense of it I’ll share it here for the rest of you who seem to be in a similar position.
