It’s best to have a low level, mid level, and high level. If you use consistent colors ( brass for details, silver for metal, ect) it looks consistent and it’s easier to do. To much variety creates a muddy looking mess. Complimentary colors are also the best for clothing (red and yellow looks good.)

Its really nice seeing videos using a minimal pallette. Too often I think hobbyists fall into a trap of watching a guide of how to paint a certain model, make a shopping list of all the paints used, then go out and get them, rather than try and use the paints they have (i know I've fallen into this trap many times). Thanks jon!

That Orc-skin is fabulous. A limited palette brings things together so nicely. It´s like music. If you have all the instruments and effects at you disposal you can loose focus on what it´s all about. I´d even say that limiting a complete army paintjob to ~10 selective colors would make for a very coherent and fascinating army with your skill involved. It´s as you said with the brown tones... we all have too many of them and they just cause confusion.

And I suppose that's what I really enjoy about your content - the delivery is great too, but the real gravy is the advice on how to use the paints properly. Seeing you paint those volumes on his arm with the green and the yellows and then putting the accents on with the glazing was really insightful. But also understanding how all those minute details all have to tie in together to allow the mini to really pop was great information.

Um, most paint sets don't include miniatures with them, other than the occasional GW flagship-faction specific set with paints directed at a certain army and including a few models of that army. Many brands and other GW sets haven't included models because they are meant to be a low price entry point that you can use with the miniatures you like that you probably already have or bought a small cheap set of a few miniatures from the shelf next to it, again, of your choice. It would be one thing if they did just rip you off and lie about box contents, but the one little picture with a disclaimer isn't that and something that simple isn't unheard of for most products.
@enveritas4948
@enveritas4948 3 жыл бұрын
@@Alittlefruitgoesalongway It's about context. These sets are sold in book shops that probably don't have a huge range of minis for you to pick from, or maybe none at all. It's also possible that someone's first experience of the hobby would be ruined if they didn't read the smallprint and expected there to be a mini inside. Not including a single mini is a missed opportunity for GW.

A great paint job with a limited palette - sometimes less is more - and it suits the subject matter 100%. I started painting with Citadel's Monster Paint Set back in the day, and it was certainly a baptism of fire.🤨 Painters should appreciate the plethora of materials available to them in this day and age, techniques have evolved, and the standard has improved exponentially, plus there was no internet to watch great painting tutorials like this. Anyway, I digress. Thanks for a crackin' tutorial, and I appreciate the time and effort taken to produce it. Every day's a school day.

Your videos were part of what got me to try painting and so I love when you do videos like this one because I still have a very limited amount of paint at my disposal and seeing you make a lot with a little encourages me that I can make something great with what I have. For future videos, I know you mentioned painting a Chaos army before and your custom Defiler is one of the coolest models I have ever seen so I would love to see paint on that!

This is such a good example of the fact that you can do a lot with a very few paints and good technique, very informative for me.

This was fantastic. I love limited palette projects. The subdued green looks so much better than the typical green treatment orks get. Thanks for sharing this idea.

This was a very cool video and yes I loved seeing you expand the usage of just a few basic paints. I’ve only played around with paint mixing for flesh tones, but now I may start trying to mix the other colors I use to more easily have highlights, like I saw you doing here. Again, great job.

I have been out of the hobby for a long time now and keep thinking about starting again but don't want to spend a load of money and then realise I don't have time or lose interest again. This has inspired me to go and grab one of those start painting sets and just go for it, loved this video.

I find this so mich fun to watch, both because I have yet to paint my first model and live vicariously thru all the minitubers I follow and because I enjoy seeing someone (especially a minituber I've been following for awhile) challenge themselves and enjoy themselves whilst doing it!!

Great video and thank you! Really like videos that talk through the creative process whether accidental or constructed through circumstance (i.e. buying a paint set). Keep up the amazing work!

Love this format. Orks are my favorite and this was a great example of how to make them look great! Showing that its possible to complete a paint job that looks this good with limited paints is really cool.

Currently painting my whole army this way. Just started collecting and painting again after forever and don't have many paints anymore. Didn't know what color scheme to go with so I grabbed a starter paint set like that one and just went with it. Pretty fun.

I like this type of limited palate video. It's fun to watch the process of working with what you have and I think the lessons are really helpful for most painters.

Not only are these entertaining and learning experience to watch, they're closer to what I paint my Orks (camo green brightest/2nd brightest) and would want to paint ork metal

Thank you for making this video, dear lad. I've been collecting oldhammer and midhammer orks for a while now, like ol' metal Black Orcs and squigs, up to the regretably discontinued (common) orc boarboys. I always bought a few things off ebay for my birthday and the like, but never got around to actually painting, because it felt like I need soooo many colours. I think this is finally gonna nudge me towards getting just a basic set and make do with what I have! Beautiful orc lad, and I looove his helmet, ha!

You are such a great painter. I learn something new every time. I’m inspired to paint more! Keep the great content coming. Toning the metallics with colors was something I’ve never done before. I’ll definitely add it to my workflow

Absolutely gorgeous, i agree with the limited pallete philosophy. My friends did a couple of challenges over lock down and this sort of thing really pushed my understanding and creativity. I'd love to see you do a series of these with different sets like this!
