Same here, born in 82 and got my NES for Christmas when I was 5. I had played a bunch of games at my babysitter's house so I was already familiar with the games I got, but I still remember how it felt to open that present.

back then, gaming didnt have EULA agreements and this and that and legal jargon just to play co op with a buddy lol. no internet. just video game magazines and maybe a few video game tv review shows on mornings in most major cities - it was a time of no cell phones, no tablets, no internet, and people actually went out, in real life, had fun. u rented or swapped games with friends or relatives. or heard via word of mouth about a hot new game. or read reviews in magazines. u just pop the cart in, play, that was it. sometimes technology gets "better" and in my opinion, it can make some things worse instead of better. i have a PS5 i play, sure, but older games are quick, charming fun. even today. many people today long for the simple days of gaming again. i know i do. i have plenty of retro games at my fingertips, but the original experience of watching these commercials for the first time, playing the games for the first time.. thats an era long gone now.

“Your parents help you hook it up.” As babies, our toys were all about matching corresponding shapes and colors. Did they really think us older kids couldn’t figure out an RCA connection?
@TheRealShatterGlass2 жыл бұрын
True… but I think some of us (me) would have found a way to botch it up if we didn't understand how any of it worked. These days, it shouldn't be too hard, especially with the aid of the Internet, but not all of us may recognize that the RCA connection is a simple Match The Color game and wind up disassembling a perfectly good television set and calling the local fire department.

An era long gone now... miss these days intensely. I still play retro games to this day, of course not as much as my PS5. But I get nostalgic and pop in a retro game a few times a week and play. It's similar to when your parents might put on an old 40s or 50s or 60s record and play it, because they still have an old record player around for sentimental reasons. Same goes for retro gaming.. I get sentimental, nostalgic.. pop in Super Mario World or Golden Axe or Super C or I grab a stool and play one of the many arcade games I actually have in my house. It's a quick nostalgic trip. Games today are fun, 3D, deep, realistic.. but nothing can match grabbin a turbo control pad and zoomin thru Contra in 20 minutes.
