This got me thinking of that gigaleak that happened a few years back. Reportedly only 3 gigabytes of the 2 terabytes retrieved was released to the public, so I'm VERY interested in that as a lost media case and whether or not it's even retrievable or was destroyed before being able to be released to the public.

A fun fact about events from gens 1-5: The events that are unlocked with an item and involves dialogue, new areas, etc. are already in the game files from release. You're not receiving an item and downloading a whole new area, the distribution just ticks a flag in the save file that tells the game to give the player the required item. Just like how Claire won't give you the 8th badge if you trade a Pokemon that's holding a dragon fang. The actual story/event flag for her to give you the badge is only triggered when you pick it up from the Dragon Den. That's why Pokemon map randomisers can send you to these areas that contain mythical Pokemon, the GS ball still is in the ORIGINAL Western release of Crystal and accessible through action replay or save editors, action replay codes can enable these events and ticking event flags for your save into a save editor will give you access to these items and areas. They're already programmed into the game.

Oh man, I actually played Segasonic the Arcade as a kid at my local arcade! It was a huge white sit-down type cabinet and it had three trackballs. Surprisingly, the game is a lot of fun. I can see why it would be hard to port it without the trackball, the game is really frantic and you end up slapping the trackball like your life depends on it. I remember beating the desert level and reading the text "To be continued" or something and being pissed that it just ended there. Would love to play it again some day.

A cool reference for your Mario quiz cards. The info stored for those cards was more than likely a result of the game “Mario is missing” which released in 92. 3 years earlier. So what better way to get more money out of a lot of stored data Nintendo collected? Manufacturing of cards. Since I don’t think that Mario is missing took off like they thought. I believe they had enough data they would consider a second Mario is missing game if the first was a success.

Gotta say, going from a Creepypasta compilation to actual lost media with no break inbetween is an... Interesting experience. Brain keeps expecting an attempt at being scary, but it never comes.

Sonic Arcade was a missed opportunity for a DS or 3ds release. The touchscreen and stylus, plus tue shoulder buttons could have made for a portable port.

Maaaan, just hearing someone say "the SNES never interested me, the games never interested me" is such a gutpunch, I grew up with and TO THIS DAY by far consider it to have the best libarary of games of all times, like Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Tetris Attack, Mega Man X and 7, Lufia 2, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound and on and on and on are still all my very favorite games.

Mario Quiz Cards were sold in a big blue laminated box decorated with SMW artwork. The box also came with a small calculator to do simple math. It was given to me as a kid and I still have it in my collection complete with all the cards and inserts

There has got to be someone smart enough within the Nintendo lost media fandom who could create a software that creates a 1:1 copy of every version of the QR code possible. It is a detailed QR code yes but the detail is the same on them all “Mii” so that won’t be a hangup. There are plenty of simple QR Code programs, just get someone to reverse engineer whatever software you find that creates nearly as complex a code as the Mii codes are. Obviously it’s easier said than done however people have done a lot more complex things in scary fast time on the internet when they’ve been challenged to do so.

i believe the "hard to understand" part was due to the fact that you were never told how to use the azure flute in its description, unlike the member card or the letter. also, you have actual reasons to return to canalave city and route 224 after beating the game, but outside of platinum, there's no reason to ever return to spear pillar after beating the game. instructions would probably have to be provided at the event distribution site, which they probably did not want to do.

I actually have a TON of miis i got through both streetpass and spotpass over the years i had my 3ds. I could upload a video of them. I'm a working adult with a family so i don't really have time to go through a list but i can pop open my 3DS. I still play games on my 3DS so i got it with me at work for my lunch break.

You know thinking about it? My 3ds has a bunch of Nintendo characters on street pass and the puzzles especially as well, but my 3DS hasn't worked for years. The touchscreen that is still charges and still turns on. It's the touch screen that doesn't work, so yea need to get that fixed to be able to use it all. I recognize those quiz cards. We had those in Holland too. It has the exact same layout, but with a different IP. I don't know remember the IP or if I have them still.

People have probably given up on the search for "Go for a Punch" by now, but it's definitely a real thing and not a myth. I've seen it a few times during high school and it's around 40 minutes long. The anime begins with a cold open of a girl crying while looking at a picture of her dad on her cellphone. The ending has that girl leave the bathroom after saying "It's open". The full story is that 3-4 girls sneak into school after dark and then some bad guys trap them in there. The girls slowly go insane and only one leaves alive. It's mostly talking, but I remember it being pretty insightful. I think that one of the girls said something along the lines of "Well? What are you waiting for? Go for a... a punch!" Oh, and the title card probably said "Period". My memory is a little hazy, but this is basically everything I know. However, it MAY be the pilot or a mini series of "Hell Girl: Three Vessels" OR an anime created by the infamous Japanese cult "Aum Shinrikyru".

So that one image in Nintendo Power that was a jar full of clipped toenails, we now know who those toenails belonged to.

I mean, you can access the Arceus with a glitch as well, so no external cheating device needed.. but it's quite difficult. You can argue about how legitimate that truly is, but you can argue the same for someone using a privately-owned but real distribution cart after the public end of the event.

No mention of Paper Mario lost media like the Super Mario RPG 2 prototype, Super Paper Mario for GameCube or Paper Mario 3DS E3 2010? I think all these could use a boost in interest, especially the last one.
