They didn't reveal anything. All they said was that they are working on a successor. The only reason they said that is people thought they were going to announce it during the Nintendo direct that's coming out in June. All they did was clear that up

Yeah, I honestly don't even really consider it a reveal either. Anyone who was paying attention knew the switch successor was coming. This was just to make people aware it wouldn't be announced during the direct so they don't have an excuse to get upset. They said the same thing in the description of the direct.

To fix and clarify: Fiscal year means April 1st 2024 to March 31st 2025, so there is a chance the successor will not be announced this year And the reason Danno mentioned 9 years despite the Switch releasing in 2017 is because the Switch was announced back in 2015

I searched the switch’s release and here’s what I got: March 2017 The Nintendo Switch did not arrive for two years after the March 2015 announcement mentioned in the statement from Shuntaro Furukawa. It was first released in March 2017, then followed by a “Lite” version in 2019 and a model with an OLED screen in 2021 Edit: Yes it was announced nine years ago but from a release standpoint, it’s 7 years old

The problem is game data is stored on the system not the cartridge(including dlc) so even if it was backwards compatible you would have to restart and possibly rebuy everything

Let me get this straight... Nintendo on their financial twitter account confirms the existence of the Switch successor and that it will be formally revealed within the fiscal year. This is usually the case with Nintendo hardware that we get confirmation of the existence of upcoming hardware. It happened with the first Switch when it was given the NX codename. God, i remember when the switch first was announced. Knowing it was like- literally YEARS ago is insane to me. I got the switch the year it came out, now i feel old damnit 😭

no, he didn't say that the switch 2 would drop within this fiscal year, he said that there would be an announcement within this fiscal year

He announced the announcement, not much else to it. I can assure you they’ll do something big for when they actually announce the console and its features, but another time. Also, he didn’t say it would drop this fiscal year, but that’s when the announcement would be. It could take another 2 years to actually see the console, like with the switch being announced in 2015 and coming out in 2017 (thus being officially 7 years old not 9).
