I actually just bought the OLED a few days ago. I previously owned a switch lite which I enjoyed but I really wanted to play the games on my TV. I did worry that they’ll release the switch 2 soon but honestly who cares, I can just sell the oled and put it towards that.

As someone who has owned every version of the Nintendo switch to date, I'd definitely recommend the Oled over all of the other versions. Got my Oled when it was first released, and the difference was night and day between it and the older model. Like TechSpaceCowboy said, "If your main way of playing is in handheld mode, definitely get the Oled. If it's on your TV, the regular switch is fine as there is no difference. " I myself have been revisiting games that I have beaten on the regular Switch as they look way better on the Oled. Tetris Effect and Astral Chain look amazing on the Oled if you're looking for recommendations

Hello! For people who are considering buying their first switch or not. I bought my first switch this Christmas, so one week ago. I tried an oled and a regular switch but chose to keep oled since the screen is so much nicer and it is a joy to use in handheld mode, really. I don't even feel like plugging my switch into a bigger screen. I have been playing the new Pokemon Violet nonstop, so much fun and now have purchased Breath of The Wild, Slay the Spire and Mario 3ds World to play with a friend. If you have games you want to play on the switch and you want to try out having a nice handheld device then go for it! It's honestly so fun, made me feel like a kid again. Consider the cost though, if it feels okay for your wallet and think about how you would feel if a new switch or whatever came out, would it bother you or would you just play the games you wanted to anyway on the current switch? And what if the new switch doesn't come out in another year or two? I'd say selling your oled switch later if a new one comes out would work out just fine in either case. I'll keep my OLED though and enjoy so many good games haha.

In terms of replacing a switch for a new model I actually did have a switch lite and I sold it to get the OLED, honestly the best decision I ever made.

I bought one at launch to replace my switch lite, screen was too small for my liking and crampy ergonomics. Couldn’t be happier with this one, and I love the benefit of being able to dock it on the Rae occasion my kids don’t monopolise the TV. One year and many games later it’s still my favourite Nintendo handheld!

I used to wonder about this stuff way back in the day when the GBA SP bright model came out. The blueish saturation the backlight added to the experience gave so much of a different look to everything. It was basically the Claritin commercial to the games. I need to see if the experience is on that level. But I only have 4 Switch games, lol.

I won a Oled from a family party last new years eve. I used to work for nintendo 2008-2009 and just by working there i really lost interest playing nintendo games. but after getting the oled i definitely got hooked! my uncle still works NoA so i feel lucky and excited on the future of nintendo consoles!

I think that the OLED is better for older people who's eyes might have aged a bit, for me the OLED is easier to see than the standard variant. Also since the screen is bigger it makes it easier to play local muiltiplayer / split screen.

Unpopular opinion maybe: just on that last point, man, I actually kinda like the joysticks on the switch. Granted I only have a Switch Lite (for now! probably have the OLED tomorrow!) but I do believe the joysticks are identical across the three Switch models, but man yeah I kinda love them, and that's coming from me, an owner of the Xbox Elite 2 controller, i.e. the best controller in the world. The switch joysticks are just tiny and adorable, I love that they have such restricted range of motion, I actually love how shallow they are, because of the package they're in. If those joysticks were in a regular shaped/sized controller I'd probably hate them, but joycons are kind of a new type of gamepad/controller, and I think the sticks feel just right on them. I wouldn't wanna play Halo with joy cons, but for Zelda? Pokemon? Animal Crossing? man I just love how they feel in my hand, like I'm feeling something unique, not like every other controller out there but something that feels so unique to the Switch/Nintendo. I'd best describe them as "toysticks" rather than "joysticks", because they do feel kinda toy-like, as is very on-brand with Nintendo. Yeah maybe unpopular opinion, idk. P.s. I have never ever experienced joy con drift and I have owned two Switch Lites since 2019 with many hundreds of hours in Zelda, and I'm not exactly gentle with them, I go full ham. Idk if I've just been lucky or what but yeah that's probably another reason I like them, they have been perfectly reliable for me

I have steamdeck and switch oled, i still love my oled switch since its the portable "it just works" console for me, i can just pop it up and play the games thats available with it, while i still love the deck, the vibrancy of colors from oled just did it for me, alot of people saying to me that i need to ditch my switch since the deck can emulate switch games as it is, but that thing needs more tinkering then usual for it to work, and even so youll suffer massive framedrops for switch games, on other system up to Ps2 tho, its magnificent! but my oled switch will always stay for the switch games! And coming from OG switch thats 5yrs old, the OLED was the best iteration of switch, in terms of battery life, screen and the new stand is just awesome!

Oh man here i am again... Have bought Switch twice on 2017 and 2019 and sold it both times because low usage... Now for some reason im again considering buying "new" OLED model to play upcoming Zelda and few other games released in last couple years like Metroid Prime

People who collect systems won't matter. I just order the switch oled and plus I enjoy playing a lot of the older games so it doesn't matter.

With regards to the Switch Pro debate - there is precedent. The 3DS was revised up to the New 3DS (also the 2DS was re-released as the new 2DS) - Both had hardware upgrades that improved performance. Try playing hyrule warriors 3ds on the origninal 3ds and it simply can't cope. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and to a lesser degree Bayonetta also had some performance issues on the Switch - making me think that the rumours there was a pro model that was cancelled might have some weight to them... Especially since Scarlet and Violet works well on an overclocked switch.

Switch OLED over the Steam Deck every day of the week, at the moment anyway. The screen and battery are much better on the Switch OLED and is much less fiddly to get every game running as it’s supposed to run. No playing around with settings, or having to check if games are ‘verified’ needed. I’ll take the lower power trade off any day of the week

I recently sold my switch v2 for a steam deck. Don’t get me wrong, the switch is a fantastic console. For me, I enjoy AAA games and shooters like Forza, Cod, Battlefield, NFS, and Halo. The switch library wasn’t cutting it for me, I just am not a personal fan of nintendo games (except for Mario Kart). Plus, thanks to my desk top, I’m addicted to eye candy and the lower resolution of the switch and poor optimization for the few AAA games it does have wasn’t a good gaming experience for me. Nonetheless, I respect the switch and what it contributed to the handheld market. It contributed to the biggest leap in handheld console development that we’ve seen in a long time and arguably, I wouldn’t have a steam deck if it wasn’t for the work Nintendo put in with handhelds over the years all the way back to the Game Boy. Regarding the steam deck, this is everything i’ve hoped for regarding handheld gaming. As a kid waiting in line for the release of Halo Reach, I always dreamed of being able to play games like that on the go, and now I can. Great video! P.S. the console war debate is really silly, just get whatever you want, play whatever you want. The only person who needs to justify whether or not any gaming device was a good purchase is the consumer who paid for it.

I would’ve loved a larger OLED screen on a Switch Lite. I still have my original 2017 Switch and never felt the need to upgrade. However, my sister and girlfriend both have Switch Lites and I love that form factor. I still need a regular Switch console for multiplayer games with friends, but I always wanted a Switch Lite as a secondary console, and if it had an OLED screen that would be a great bonus.

I think the Steam Deck vs Switch OLED vs Switch Lite comparison has been the worst thing that's ever lived rent-free in my brain. There is simply no definitive answer to which is the best. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Either pick one and just try to be happy, or buy them all...and also drive yourself nuts trying to decide which to buy and play your games on. "Do I play Hollow Knight on the Switch OLED because it's more portable, has better battery life, and the screen is far superior? Or do I play it on Steam Deck because the controls are way more comfortable, and there's Steam achievements, and I already own it there? But I could also play it on the Lite because it's the most portable of all, and has better controls than the Switch OLED. Oh but the screen is so small and I can't dock it to the TV when I want to." - my brain Gaming used to be simpler.

I’m one of those that have been waiting for a “Pro” model for about two years…. Well Zelda TOTK is out in 4 months, I’ve not even played BOTW yet! Nintendo seems to typically release new hardware with a new Zelda release, and I highly doubt they announce and release a new console with such little time between now and TOTK’s release.. And to add to that, a trustworthy person when it comes to “leaks” over a Digital Foundry said not long ago that Nintendo scrapped whatever plans they had for a “Pro” and are now just focusing on whatever comes next for maybe next year. So.. F it lol. Went out and grabbed me a OLED, BOTW, SMT5, 512gb memory and a grip/case. Now watch Switch Pro/2 get surprise announced during February’s Direct 😅

maybe it's not entirely objective but i got my OLED 10 odd years ago with my Vita, which is a better console anyway. I know the vita OLED isn't as good and burns in.... but it INNURED me to the gimmick. The gimmick and the fact that i think it is wayyy too big to be portable is why i consider this to be about as enticing a product as a, u knows, hundreds of dollars macdonalds happy meal toy

Yes the OLED is worth it and I always see about the steam deck and people bringing down the OLED switch.......I rebought it off someone for 300 and yes it is worth it def a step up from the lite and def has a better screen then the deck.....also play resident evil 0 on switch OLED you'll see what I mean¡!!!!!! So deck is not better then OLED in terms of screen colors and all and the resolution is def great also!!!!!! And you can detach the joycons......alotta great ports on OLED.....switch OLED is one of a kind being its own thing and seeing valve trying to compete and be like Nintendo is childish.....Nintendo does they're own thing like Xbox.....Sony and valve seem to like to compete like children.......already talking about a ps6.......lol.........and the release date.....I think if anything Nintendo might do something for the OLED which will be nice........I don't think another systems needed the OLED is def beautiful and fun to have!!!!!!!! It does its own thing in a powerful way!!!!!!! Very powerful device for its own Nintendo system way😁

Dude you've _got_ to be doing it on purpose, no one on earth refers to OLED by each letter, when you hear literally every other person on the planet refer to it simply as "OLED", what goes through your mind when you're like "nah I'ma call it oh el ee dee every single time I say it" Apart from anything when you have to repeat it so much don't you think it would just be more practical to speak it as one word...? This has confused me so much and I feel like this alone has caused me to contract OH CEE DEE (hah, get it, it's funny cuz it's an acronym for which you pronounce each letter and here I am giving him shit for saying all the letters... haha many funnies. nah but it is actually different, I mean you could try phonetically say "OKD" but that doesn't exactly simplify things like phonetically saying "OLED" does) Alright enough about all of this, I write too much, my brain should have a character count cap honestly this happens way too much, just ignore me if you've come this far... I think the Switch is pretty damn outdated. It's cool, indeed, but it's lagging behind. Unless you haven't touched, or seen, any newer device than it since its launch.

Hardware is too old and it's becoming a stutter fest on even first party games. Doesn't matter how bright and beautiful the screen is if the games are struggling due to an 8 year old soc. Also people won't have to wait a year once Nintendo announces it. The official announcement for switch was only 4 and a half months from release.
