Alright, this worked for me! I wanted to note that if you're having trouble getting the tiny screws off (assuming you have the right screwdrivers) is to soak the screw/screwhole with wd-40 for about 10 mins. I applied it with a soaked q-tip, waited, then wiped it off with a paper towel. Made the screw way easier to remove without stripping it.

What was the fault actually with the old fan? Did you made any diagnostics of it after finishing the video? Would be interesting to see if was failed electronics or some of the bearings.

In the past I took apart 2 of them which were shorted. The problem is that the only way to take it apart is destructive. In those cases the driver IC was shorted on its small circuit board inside the fan.

So i bought the switch when it first came out Is There A Way That Ur Switch Somehow Overheats Because Its Too Old? And No We Did Not Change The Fans Or Thermal Paste
@kikihobbyrepair
@kikihobbyrepair Жыл бұрын
Yes, thermal paste is getting dry and there will not be an efficient cooling anymore. Fan you do not have to replace unless it fails.

Mine randomly started going into overheat sleep mode and yeah I’m guessing it’s the fan. It doesn’t charge my joycons so I’m gonna have to attempt this, I’ve taken electronics apart before and built pcs so this shouldn’t be an issue. Thanks for your upload Edit also subbed, you earned it buddy

That is really common that those 3 tabs are damaged because most people overtighten them and they are super fragile.

My Nintendo switch screws aren’t coming out, how do I fix this?
@kikihobbyrepair
@kikihobbyrepair 2 жыл бұрын
Are you using the right screw drivers? They are just plastic screws at the back they should come out easily. Maybe the ones on the sides in the rails are going into metal those might be tricky in case of surface corrosion but I did not have a single one where I could not remove them.

Do you not need to replace the thermal paste on the CPU also? It's below where you applied the first thermal paste.
@kikihobbyrepair
@kikihobbyrepair 2 жыл бұрын
If you look well around 14 minutes, from this one someone already removed the copper sheet from the CPU shield. So here I basically directly applied thermopaste onto the SoC.

What do I do if one of the screws on the back is stripped
@kikihobbyrepair
@kikihobbyrepair 9 ай бұрын
Well, try at first a different screw driver, maybe it will still grab the screw. Alternatively carefully drill down the head of the screw. This is super hard because you should not melt the plastic beside. MAybe do it in multiple small steps and let it cool down. Good luck!

There is also a circuit which is controlling it. If there is for example a shorted mostfet, it will be on all the time. There is also a diode close to the connecter, check all these.

How often should you replace the thermal paste? I heard every year or every 2-5 years ALSO how often do we need to replace the fan? I heard on reddit and quroa posts that computer fans last for 2-3 years but I can't find nothing about the switch fan
@kikihobbyrepair
@kikihobbyrepair 2 жыл бұрын
Well these are questions that are not easy to answer because it depends on a few things like how often and how long are you using the switch. For sure if you play on a regular daily bases and the Switch is running hot a lot, the thermal paste is aging faster like if you would use it only occasionally. If you feel like it is starting to run hotter and the fan is turning on more often then definitely take it apart, clean the fan and the heatsink from accumulated dust and replace the thermal paste. I would say depending on the quality of the thermal paste you use it should last easily for like 2 years minimum. But for sure if you replace it every year it will run cooler and it will last longer. As for the fan. If you do not feel or hear strange noises and if it is running perfectly and it is not overheating, I would not change it at all.
