And Yet It Moves was a really unique 2D puzzle platformer with a paper like art style and a really chill soundtrack. It's all about rotating your surroundings using the Wii Romote to get to the goal. It was released on PC some time after but the Wii version is kinda unique and still the best as you can rotate the world at any angle freely, PC version you can only rotate at 90 degrees at a time.

Chick Chick Boom was such a cute little WiiWare game. It didn't have much substance, but what little it did have was fun as heck and really charming.

Great video, Jon! Man, I'm so happy to hear someone praise not only Excitebots but Light Trax too! Those are two of my favorite Wii games. I'd love to get Light Trax on the Switch and Rotohex which is just a really great, underrated puzzler! Both of those Art Style games have incredible soundtracks.

I made sure to buy Pokemon Ranch and Pokemon Rumble on my Wii U right before the Wii Shop channel died. There may not be much to Pokemon Ranch, but if you deposit enough Pokemon you can get a Phione and a Mew you can transfer to your Diamond or Pearl games. I wish I had bought those Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle games though, they looked really cool!

Interesting. You're the first person I've seen who liked My Life as King the best out of the Crystal Chronicles series. I myself fanboy over the others five FFCC, but MLaK I'd the only one I haven't completed once, but that is about to change since your enthusiasm has inspired to give King Leo's adventure another spin. I just hacked my Wii and installed a ton of wiiware games into it. There are a TON of WiiWare hidden gems.

Fluidity is one of my favorite Wii games. So glad I have that still downloaded.

Cubello was my fave Art Style game on WiiWare. I love the whole series. Great followups to bit generations.

Pokemon Rumble on the wii was a great time. It included couch co-op and me and my friends loved to play it, seeing what new pokemon you would get and having to switch to stronger pokemon as the game progressed was so fun with friends. I don't think any of the sequels have couch co-op, so I think this is the best one. I'm surprised the multiplayer wasn't mentioned at all, it's fantastic.

Muscle March was weird fun. Rage of the Gladiator has a newer 3DS version with added features but the original on Wiiware is great with motion controls.

The original Rumble is also the only one you can shiny hunt in. Many youtubers from the pokemon shiny community do an event called Rumble Weekend playing it!

This list was great. I loved that you didn't let Gradius ReBirth and Contra ReBirth be overshadowed by Castlevania, like people usually do. As for titles that weren't mentioned, I think there are Blaster Master and Alien Crush titles lost on WiiWare.

You left out “Let’s Catch”. Such a great experience.

That EXCITEBIKE game looks so good! Wish I'd heard about it before now

You forgot to mention that My Pokemon Ranch performed a little bit like Pokemon Bank, Pokemon Box, or Pokemon Home. Except, while it was a Pokemon storage tool, it was more of a game itself than the other three. You could play around with the Pokemon you stored in it, and someone in the game of My Pokemon Ranch would even occasionally trade with you.

"My Life as a King" was really good, i really enjoyed that game. Finished the main game, but never really all the missions. If they were ever to re-release it, it would of course include all the DLC, but i would also like to see some new stuff edited as well, some sort of endless/free play mode where you can keep building your kingdom with all the stuff you didn't do yet, without having to worry within how many in-game days you can beat this game.

Liight was one of the Wiiware games that I loved mainly for the soundtrack and it saddens me that I can't find it on KZfaq. It was a puzzle solving game where you would use the given lights to match with their color. Some levels even required two to three to make the matching colors glow. Doing so creates a beat until you completely finish. I loved the game!

Contra ReBirth is amazing, I still play it with friends from time to time

It’s videos like this that highlight that digital only is 100% not the way forward. For me the examples are Ducktales Remastered and Scott Pilgrim. The second a licence runs out, or a digital store’s sever closes… yoink! At least with physical games this will never be an issue. Instead of worrying when a server closes never to be redownloaded again.

There is one thing that Pokemon Ranch had besides the novelty of it: if you deposited 999 Pokemon on the Ranch, the game would trade you a legitimate Mew. For maybe 15 years, this was the only way to get a Mew without cheating (or being lucky enough to get one on you R/B/Y during an event), until they started handing out legendaries like candy. I might be the only one who did it, but my Pokemon Ranch Mew is sitting safely on Pokemon Home, with the original trainer forever marked as 'Hayley' (the character that runs the ranch)! :)

WiiWare also had an exclusive Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game, once again using a very polygonal art style. I believe it was the only PMD in which you could be a Growlithe.

My Pokémon Ranch gave you the opportunity to store several Pokémon to clear up space on your game cart. You were also able to do trades with Hayley to receive exclusive Pokémon. Two highlights from the trades are a Phione, that you couldn’t get unless you had a Manaphy (which was rare back then) and a MEW. I believe that was the only way to receive a legit US Mew at the time. The 10th anniversary Mew hadn’t happened yet and the Old Sea Map Mew was a Japan exclusive. Hayley was quite the collector of rare ‘mons. So you sold the game a little short in your presentation.

This is the problem with having digital games, and in extension digital films and music. At any time you could lose these without any warning, and then the money you spent on these was worthless. This is why physical media will always be better, you own your media and you don't lose it if you lose Internet access or if the services shut down

The most notable thing about My Pokémon Ranch is that you get a free Mew for depositing 1,000 Pokémon. There was also a problem with that My Pokémon Ranch only worked with Diamond & Pearl, but there was a free update that added compatibility with Pokémon Platinum... only in Japan.

*sighs* I miss WarioWare DIY, we need a sequel or something. T.T

2 games I really enjoyed from Wii Ware were Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders R1 and R2. Those tower defense versions of Final Fantasy had such a flair to them. Although I think they are still available elsewhere.

I know my family’s Wii is somewhere, but since I left for college and we moved I can’t find it. It’s important to me that I eventually find this specific Wii, because it has games on it you can’t get anymore. Buying any old Wii won’t let me play Pokémon Rumble, Sin & Punishment, or Lead the Meerkats. I played Pokémon Rumble a ton and still really love that game.

Shin'en's FAST League Racing along with Jett Rocket impressed me considering how visually polished they were, especially when you compared them to some full retail games. JR in particular reminded me of some of Super Mario's 3D offerings between N64-Wii. I also liked Pokemon Rumble. I'm not really a Pokémon player, but I enjoyed playing this with my nephew. (Him and I also enjoyed playing FAST League Racing.) Honestly prefer this one over its sequels. Lastly, Hudson Soft's WiiWare offering, Onslaught, impressed me back in the day. Sure, it looked like something between a late N64 to early GCN game, but considering the limited file size of WiiWare games, it's honestly not a bad first person shooter. Not great, but not bad.

I'm pretty sure there is a website that has every last WiiWare title available for download but you need to have your Wii modded with the Homebrew Channel and install the games to an SD card to install them on the system via the Homebrew Channel.

My dream Wii remaster is Punch-Out!!, with Doc Louis Punch-Out included as bonus content.

I don't know if it really counts as an exclusive or if it's even so unique among others in its franchise, but I got quite a bit of mileage out of Bomberman Blast when it came to local multiplayer. It had plenty of fun party modes, you could create custom power-up loadouts for each player, and, assuming you had four Wii-motes and four GameCube controllers on hand, matches supported up to eight people. Certainly not a bad value for its price.

The update that had to be downloaded as a channel, that fixed a glitch in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is gone, that prevented players moving forward.

I tend not to mention Shin'en on Wii Ware, without mentioning ALL their Wii Ware outings, including Jett Rocket and the original Art Of Balance, which are also stuck on Wii Ware. Both games stand toe to toe with Mario Galaxy in terms of visuals. Jett Rocket is also a pretty neat 3D platformer, and honestly, I don't think we got enough o' those on the Wii, while Art Of Balance's controls are pretty smooth, and worth at least one full romp.

I wish that the Pokémon mystery dungeon Wii ware games weren’t exclusive to Japan. Definitely want to try it sometime though.

Pokemon Rumble is notable for being the only Rumble game that lets you hunt shiny Pokemon so it still has an audience even though it's no longer available to purchase :) Ranch is also pretty notable for being one of the only ways to get a Mew that isn't a limited event... that is if you do the time consuming task that is transferring 1000 Pokemon from Diamond/Pearl into Ranch.

I'm kicking myself for never getting around to getting the Art Style Games, Bonsai Barber, and You, Me & The Cubes... 1 I'd like to throw out a mention for is Eco Shooter Plant 530. It's a fun, if short, on rails light gun shooter that was actually compatible with the Wii Zapper ( for the 5 of us who have one lol ). It's also an underrated and generally forgotten gem from Nintendo. oh, and it's not that good but Grill Off with Ultra-Hand is one of those "you have to try this to believe it" games that's lost to the WiiWare graveyard.... and fun fact: the main reason to play around with My Pokemon Ranch was the fact you could earn a Mew through it also wish Line Attack Heroes and, more for the fans of the series than myself as I can't get into them, the 3 WiiWare Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games had been released outside Japan....

I love My Pokémon Ranch. I got it shorty before the Wii shop closed down and I’m glad I did. It’s really relaxing. It’s also the only way you could get Mew in Gen 4. If you deposit 999 Pokémon into the, ranch you’ll get a Mew you can send back to your copy of Pokémon Diamond or Pearl. It’s a shame we never got the Platinum update for the game like Japan did.

Imagine if Nintendo actually let downloads or Virtual Console fully carry over between systems. I loved the Art Style games. And I didn't even know about Light Trax. Orbient was probably the most underrated, but they all were. Cubello, Rotohex... I'd have to go through my full library to see what else I liked. And of course, Ioved games that got ports, like World of Goo and Lost Winds as well.

Chindouchuu: Pole no Daibouken was great. It was exclusive to the Japanese WiiWare, but it's basically a very silly, funny Famicom kusoge parody from Sega with tons of fourth-wall breaking, and an over the top guy constantly commenting what's happening. It was really cheap too, 500 Wii points, which was the cheapest price possible.

One of my favorite WiiWare games was LIT by WayForward. There's a mobile version but it's different as it changes it into a 2d game.
