@traviswilson12025 жыл бұрын
I discovered this song in 2014 -- I was 24 years old. I was sitting in my living room, having a brew after work and cleaning my pistol (because it needed it, not because I was suicidal). It had been almost four years since me and my ex girlfriend had lost our child to a miscarriage (Christmas Day 2011). This situation was, and still is, BY FAR the hugest hurdle I have been forced to overcome to this day. Still hard to think about to this day. I didn't feel like a single person I knew or talked to about the situation really understood what it was that I was going through.... but, in the weirdest way, these lyrics were so relate able to my situation, I couldn't move. I sat there and listened to this on repeat for at least an hour. Crying my fucking eyes out. Almost quite literally paralyzed me. I didn't even realize until the song was over that I had been searching to be understood, for somebody to feel my pain and hardship, since the miscarriage happened. It was a truly bitter sweet experience. Sweet, because the lyrics made me realize that SOMEBODY out there gets me and feels me...I realized that day that I am not alone. Bitter because of the realization that none of my friends, family, or anybody else in my immediate network, understood me, and that is who I poured my heart out to until I decided to write this... That situation will likely never be easy to think about, and, at least for the time being, Christmas Day, no matter how sunny or cheerful or jolly, will always come with a metaphorical grey cloud in the sky. Five years later, I hear this song, and it reminds me of the Hell that I survived, that I am still surviving to this day. I hear it a whole new way today, 01APR2019, one day after the death of Nipsey, but I will never forget the way I felt when this song first came through my speakers in that living room. Ill never forget what I was wearing, that the sun was almost down, that there were NHL highlights streaming in silence on TV... I don't write this for a pity party. Nipsey proved to me that music is the absolute purest art form imaginable. Blown away at the fact that somebody I don't know, have never met or talked to personally, can touch the deepest depths of my soul with a beat, 5 minutes of the right words, and straight up RAW emotion. I was never understood before this track, and to tell you the truth, I haven't felt understood since after, either... RIP Nipsey Hussle, One Love mane...

I’m sorry for what you went through, Carnal. Sometimes all it takes is a certain song to let you know that some vato you don’t even know has gone through the same pain you’re going through. Music heals homie. Especially great music from a great dude. Ain’t no pity party, G. You’re just pouring your heart out and that’s good to do sometimes. I hope your days are brighter homie. No matter how bad or who’s against you, rest assure in peace knowing Got got you. In the very first line in this song he makes that clear.
