Hahaha. I remember my former manager is Japanese, and he always insert the word "kira-kira" in every possible conversation. The at first I confused what did he meant? I thought "kira-kira" is Japanese and he forgot the English word of it because sometimes he also muttering in Japanese. After a week I just realized he meant "kira-kira" in Indonesian. He starting to learn Indonesian little by little. There is a few Japanese who speaks fluent Indonesian in my office though.

(Like speaking with your boss or writing resume...) 3. In Indonesia, English is 1 of important subject in school that you need to pass if you want to graduate (Not all school but most of them...)

Most indonesian people speak their local/regional language in everyday life. Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian Language) is usually used in TV shows, formal events, talking to higher-ups at work, or talking to the people from different regions. If it is something intended for public, like most books and newspapers, it will almost definitely written in Bahasa Indonesia. Every Indonesian understands Bahasa Indonesia, but not all Indonesians understand other regions' local language. In terms of speaking English, it is kinda similar to Japan, some are good, some are mediocre, and some don't even understand English.

English is not our official language unlike singapore or india and is very rarely spoken in real life, but it is very common for the younger generation in developed part of indonesia like jakarta and depok to atleast understand english, not a lot can speak english fluently but a lot of the younger generation can understand you if you speak english casually. It's because the internet is a big part of our life, and most of us know english from that. All of this is very different if you go to the rural areas of indonesia or the older generation, hardly anyone from that group understand english. Also it seems that the more nerdier you are the more you're exposed to english contents and the better your english will be, the example is well iofi and risu. Speaking english is a kind of privilege in indonesia because people that can speak or understand it very well are upper class to middle class people living in developed areas of indonesia, because they have access to private schools that use english in their curriculum, a "trendy" environment that act more western, studied or travelled overseas and well the internet. TL;DR English is not a part of our daily life and sadly, only privileged people can speak fluently and understand it really well

Yes, it is pretty obvious, that they are far better educated than their Japanese counterparts. It seems, based on their education, that they are from the higher class of Indonesia, while Japanese vtubers based on their stories and for obvious reasons as well are from the lower classes of Japan. Moreover, Japanese English teaching is so broken, that most Japanese wouldn't even speak or understand English at all even from higher classes, while in Indonesia at least understanding written and spoken English is rampant in cities.

Vtubers' real identities are generally a secret, at least for the Japanese agencies/individuals, so I guess they make sure to use stream names during active times. Could also be used as nicknames though.
