Man this shows that another nirvana album would’ve been so good

This song is so beautiful and happy, yet so, so so depressing. When you listen to it, you just want to smile. But when you realize it was *THE LAST* thing Kurt ever recording before his death in ‘94, it makes you want to cry. Cry hard.

The last known composition by Kurt Cobain -- also known as "Dough, Ray and Me" -- was first mentioned in a 1994 Rolling Stone interview with Courtney Love, although it didn't surface for another decade. Love's commentary on the song is cryptic, but it may explain the line that sounds like "if I may, cold as ice": "I had asked him after Rome" -- where Cobain overdosed and fell into a coma a month before his suicide -- "to freeze his sperm. So there's this whole thing about freezing your uterus." The song has only been heard as Kurt's acoustic home recording as "Do Re Mi," its title borrowed from the Sound of Music song about the musical scale (note that Kurt plays a descending scale after the chorus). One of my favourites... It would have been a great opening for next album... Only by his guitar playing you can hear how he wanted to match drums etc., sick (in a good way).

This song is so sad and beautiful at the same time

Despite most nirvanas and cobains songs having relatively simple structure they we're able to elicit such profound emotions, which proves that a song doesn't have to be complex.

God, I'm so frustrated that there was never a complete studio version of this. A definite favourite of mine and so sad that it will never be fully realised by the original band members. That said, the amateur recording does kind of fit the song well and adds to the somewhat eerie and mournful atmosphere.

Nirvana's next album was supposed to be more acoustic from what I've heard. This would've been one hell of a song to be on the album if it was added.

If "About A Girl" was Kurt's version of a Beatles styled song, "Do Re Mi" sounds like his version of a Roy Orbison styled song. The melody and even the voice sound similar to Roy.

Nice. I just bought a 68 Stella 12 string just like this one. In near mint condition! Gonna have my guitar guy set it up with 12’s for now but I’ll replace with nylons later. These vintage guitars were always recommended to be tuned down 1/2 step. Is that how Kurt had his with the nylon strings as well?

I think the lyrics in the description are off. At least I've always heard it as "Do re mi" then "Don't rape me" and "Follow pain and breed me" not "follow pain and be me" as it's written in the description, to name a couple.
