Nirvana's post show interview on August 23, 1991 at Reading Festival. Think this is all floating around in clips but some are out of sync/misplaced/etc.

When you interview Kurt alone, you never know what you’re gonna get. If you’re lucky, you might get a fantastic, sincere interview. But if you interview the whole band, there is a 100% chance you are going to get a Krist Novoselic troll fest.

All you have to do is take the time beforehand to think of MORE INTERESTING QUESTIONS, and to be more EMPATHETIC with the band during the actual interview, so that if it obviously becomes a STUPID QUESTION that the band don't want to answer, you change tack and try to ask something a bit BETTER THOUGHT-OUT that they might actually WANT to answer.....

in this interview it seems like dave and kurt were opposites in personality. Dave is polite and fairly engaged when he speaks, whereas Kurt for the most part is only sarcastic and condescending. they also don't look at each other much, even though Kurt looks at Krist all the time. This interview makes me suspect that there was tension between Kurt and Dave, and that Krist was the glue holding them all together. There are a few points when Kurt and Krist are having a "moment" and Dave looks away or has a dark look on his face. Kurt may have been slow to warm up to Dave and treat him the same as Krist. Keep in mind that at the time of this interview Kurt had known Krist for about 6 years and had already gone through handfuls of band members together with him, and had known Dave for only a year (maybe less).

Every time I watch a Dave Grohl Nirvana interview I can't help but watch how Dave is mimicking an introvert, knowing how funny and extroverted he really is. I assume it's because he feels how Kurt and Krist run so deep that they have a silent bond, and Dave joined "late". Just what I read from looking at his body language and hesitation to speak, whereas Kurt and Krist seem so exempt from hesitation or fear of not being heard/understood. Perhaps Dave just trying to mimic their personalities in respect of the pecking order. Fascinates me.

TRUE STORY: 2 friends of mine saw Nirvana perform at this show and later in the day they both saw Kurt wandering around the festival arena with some other dude. Kurt had his arm in a sling and one of my friends said to the other 'look, there's that bozo who threw himself into the drumkit earlier on lmao!' At this stage Nirvana were't quite as huge as they turned out to be in 1992 and so it was possible for Kurt to walk freely around the festival arena without being mobbed by fans. My friend hadn't even heard of Nirvana until that moment when they came on stage. They were totally lucky cos they had just been there to see the end of Silverfish and were stood casually eating a burger. lucky sods!
