I bought a shifter position switch (about $20 on Amazon b/c Nissan does not sell this without a much more costly shifter full assembly), and got it done in a few hours. Appreciate your step-by-step. Thank you

What is the exact name of the sensor you bent up to make contact and fix the issue? I have the same problem and need to know what to order so I can fix it myself. I have a 2013 Nissan Altima

Good diagnosis and (partial) fix. Those plastic panels can be a pain to get off, but you work on these cars all the time and you do it as second nature. I still need to change our Mazda MPV drivers seatbelt.😦

You are not too old to have a lot of experience on points and condensors, but the contacts on switches of today still need filing to remove some carbon buildup and some burned/arched rough surfaces that acts like velcro and electrical contact treatment to help them to last longer. As for myself, I am ok with bending the lever but I would have filed with special files, very fine, and treated the switch contacts as well with deoxit or stabilant 22.
