Faced this problem before? The oldschool bulbs behind the AC cluster burn out, leaving you in the dark.
Here's an easy fix to replace them with 12V LEDs. Takes less than an hour to complete. For the LEDs, you can order T10 W5W LEDs from ebay, same ones you can use inside the car for the dome lights. Then strip away the plastic from the base and you can pop those inside the dials. Works a treat!

For me, there was more simple: redo the welds of the R240 resistors . They were cracked . Now it's perfect without change the bulbs.

Excellent video. Could you by chance tell me the parts number for the defective unit?

Hello I have Nissan note 2008 . My air conditioner panel like your panel but not same. There are 15-20 led 3528. I remove backplate of air cond. Panel and remove approx. 20 led and change them to white led. I close back cover and plug all cable socket to panel . All led is lighting but air conditioner is not working now. Why? Can you help me?

normally works with 6v bulb. over time the solders crack and the bulbs don't work. remove the socket, re-solder the bulbs and resistors. it will be fixed. 12v will be a problem for the main board in the long run.

Thank you for this fix! But could you tell where you should connect the 12v to the PCB? Also could you specify what are the original lamps used by Nissan on the PCB and what voltage they use?

I connected the 12V to the accessory socket below this panel, sorry if that was not clear in the video. So not on the PCB at all. Unfortunately I have no idea what the original lamps are, there was no writing on them.

I measured the voltage going to the original lamps, and it kept fluctuating between 1V - 14V with no clear reason why. I tried to connect the new LEDs to those points on the PCB, but they did not work at all through that, even with 5V LEDs. Cannot understand why - but then I just took the power from elsewhere.

@@jtr159 Thank you for the answer. To be clear I still haven't disassembled my unit so i might be asking the questions that won't exist if i do. But my question was about where on the PCB these two wires (that you connected to accessory socket) come from? Did you attach them by yourself or they are just there originally to supply voltage to original lamps. Sorry if i'm asking obvious questions.

@@jtr159 And does this new setup (connected to accessory socket) always stays on when ignition switch is on or as original only turns on with the main/side light is turned on?
@jtr159
@jtr159 3 жыл бұрын
@@shelterthat Oh I see yeah. I ran two wires from the accessory socket 12V positive and ground directly to the LEDs that I put inside the dials. So I bypassed the whole PCB and connected nothing to it (except soldered out the old tiny bulbs). It's much clearer once you disassemble everything :) easy to do, just need a flathead screwdriver to pop off the panel and disconnect the cables

I have got this problem,but dont know car electrics very well is it possible to get a replacement pcb panel and fit that ?
@jtr159
@jtr159 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think so but it's likely the original irreplaceable bulbs have failed on nearly all panels from that era. So replacing the PCB will most likely not help. Easy way to explain this fix is that you just have to put separate lights inside the original dials. In this video I just showed how I put normal automotive LED lights inside the dials and where I got power for them. If you have a friend or relative who has any idea about car electronics, I think that might be your best bet to get it fixed.

@@jtr159 Thanks for the reply I could probably do this , but its the soldering i would have an issue with. poor design from Nissan i think !

@@briandavis8120 Yeah totally agree, we had LEDs in 2006 already and you'd think they wouldn't have been too pricey even on a reasonably priced car. Even fitting traditional replaceable bulbs would've been better.

@@jtr159 not having the lights is not such a big deal for me, its an old car i use for getting about, but I enjoy fixing things or upgrading if I can,but thanks to your video I have learned how easy it is to replace the whole panel if needed, so I will maybe keep my eye out for a salvage part (currently about £30) maybe get one cheaper locally as even then may not last that long ! if you have time redo the vid with some more photos or video as you know what you are doing and im sure it would encourage more people to have a go themselves. Thanks very much for the information Cheers Bri

@@briandavis8120 hi! Thanks for the kind comment Bri, yeah the whole panel is really easy to replace. I'm sure some salvage yards might let you test a salvage panel before purchase to check the lights. I'll be sure to redo this video better if the current LEDs ever fail, I know I spent weeks trying to find out how to replace them before I went out on a limb and took everything apart👍
