I have a 2008 Pathfinder that has over 367,000 km on it. It's currently running 'like a top' and still looks great. This is my 3rd Pathfinder..... the previous ones being 1992 and 1995 5-speeds.

What engine is in it? Had any transmission problems?

I have an 08 LE with 210k miles, I’ve done the transmission lower(solenoids, gaskets, internal lines), cooler and lines, but everything else is original with the tranny. I think if you catch the “SMOD” before it becomes a real problem you’re fine. Beyond all new suspension including control arms, hubs, rear end, and basic maintenance, it’s been a great truck. It spends 5 months a year in 4 wheel drive due to where I live and it’s been across the Country 3x, last one being at 200k and I still trust it completely. I like my new 4Runner better, but this truck is still worth 3x more to me than what it is to anyone else, and I’ll keep it until it’s scrap metal.

I had a 2010 with the V6. Sold it after 10 years and 186,000 miles and still going. The woman that I sold it to has it up to 224,000. I only ever changed tires, brakes, rotors,a battery and a new radiator. What a beast! I would buy another one in a heartbeat…

My 2008 has been nothing but reliable. Peak SMOD year but trans replaced at 110k and original radiator. Currently at 189k with zero issues

I have a 2011 Patfinder S model, there is so many issues, engine rev loud when starts, power windows 3/4 are malfunctioned, radiator, front suspensions, radiator, frozen rear alignment(can't be fixed), air flow sensor, stalled engines, I think the amount of money I put in to fix this truck is about the same as the car price itself. My next car will be Toyota for sure!

Nissan did issue a recall for the trans/radiator issue. My first pathfinder, an '06, had the recall on it and the cooler upgrade.

Great info! Just got a 2011 earlier this year. 93k miles with no codes showing up when I took it in for a checkup and transmission fluid change. My understanding is that most of the 2011 versions have a new radiator that fixed the Strawberry Milkshake of Death issue. So I wasn't planning on replacing or bypassing my radiator.

Best value in 4x4's. If you can find one that didn't spend a majority of its time in a state where road salt is used, and it seems to have been well-maintained, take it to a Nissan dealership for a pre-purchase inspection. If they give it the green light, buy it. I would budget to have the valve cover gasket done, just due to age and mileage. Nissan's VQ series engines are arguably second, ONLY to Lexus 4.6 & 5.7 liter V-8's, when you factor in horsepower, torque, AND longevity. Yes, the 6 cylinder in the 4Runner is an extremely good engine, HOWEVER, it lacks the Pathfinder's power AND, you're gonna' pay 3x to 4x more for an equivalent mileage 4Runner. A 4Runner is NOT 3 or 4 times better than a 2008---2012 Pathfinder. On a well-maintained 2008 to 2012 Pathfinder, I think the two main things that are likely to go are the catalytic converter (mine went at 195,000 miles) and the camshaft position sensor (mine went at 175,000 miles). My understanding is that, those are known issues with Pathfinder's of this vintage. Considering that I bought it 3 years ago, for $8,500, with 135,000 miles and it's now 11 years old, with 200,000 miles, I do NOT think those are anything to knock the vehicle about. Mine runs like it's brand new.

I agree. I bought my 2012 v6 4x4 pathy 8 years ago. I wanted a 4 runner like my buddy had but the pathfinder was almost identical in every category but thousands cheaper . When I bought it the mileage was 77k and now it has 175k. Other than regular maintenance and an A/c compressor (because I run the a/c a lot) it has held up perfectly. I have wrangler duratrac tires on it and it’s a beast in the snow here. It has more power than my buddys 4Runner, faster and performs the same when we mess around in the snow and mud . Great value with this vehicle in my opinion.

Very informative I’m looking to buy a 2005 pathfinder because I like the look size and price for 3600 but now I’m kinda rethinking that purchase

All vehicles have issues research everything and run vin checks. Pay for that used car check before buying.

@@wordimobi5765 Honda pilots die because timing belts aren't changed. Anything with the 5.4 Triton will need replaced unless maintenance is first in the owners mind. Everything needs maintenance and regularly checked. People need to quit treating their car like disposable plates. 😊

We don't get the V8 engines,,,,, any petrol powered version uses far too much fuel to take seriously, so we get the 3.0 and 2.5 litre diesels and both get worse as they age. Even so,,,,, we get only the ute versions and a handful of the Pathfinder versions in NZ. Smarter people are spending smarter and going elsewhere.

Did you come here just to skip the video and make that comment? Pretty much anybody with a reasonable amount of automotive knowledge will agree that Pathfinders, Xterras and Frontiers are some of the best value used SUVs/trucks you can buy. And then there are people like you who just say "Nissans are pieces of crap" because you probably drove an Altima.
