I'd love to see a video of how cars go from initial artists sketches to clay models to manufactured end result. All of these amazing concept designs very rarely seem to have any great resemblance to the final process for obvious reasons

It's usually very hard to get all that information. But there are several period videos that talk about that. Look up the making of the Austin Metro, or the Morris Marina.

@@LittleCar I could just imagine the meetings between designers with all of their wacky awesome drawings and ideas versus the engineers, production team and accountants

As a UX designer I prefer the agile approach over waterfall since you're able to quickly iterate on smaller more feature specific updates vs one big release for the very reasons you pointed out in your vid. Where the agile approach sometimes falls apart is when you take a very complex system like Tesla's "full self-driving" suite and try to implement small changes over time that may cause other things to break on a system that has to consistently perform optimally in order to be trusted.

Not as revolutionary as the Qashqai but Nissan made a much needed comeback in a very competitive Indian market with the Nissan Magnite. Nissan India for the past decade lied dormant with bland vehicles and subpar after sales service but somehow Nissan finally figured out the ins and outs of the Indian market and brought an extremely value for money modern product that has disrupted the whole market 👍

Interesting video. It would have been nice to see more information on the related Xtrail, Rogue/Rogue Sport and the difference between the vehicles at the 5 factories where the Qashqai/Dualis were produced.
@LittleCar
@LittleCar 2 жыл бұрын
That would have made it even longer! I notice the X-Trail was a “proper” 4x4, and got changed to a crossover. But there’s so many sizes of basically the same car (Murano, Rogue, Qashqai, Juke).

What I don't understand, is why Nissan thought Kashkai would sound like CashCow in Australia, but not in England, or the rest of the world? I am not a native English speaker and that's the the thing that comes to mind immediately when i hear it.

I think the main complaint about Crossovers is that most are bigger than the original Range Rover (I just checked dimensions). p.s. After your Mercedes A Class Video I went and sat in a B Class. Impressively roomy inside. A shame the waiting list for the Plug in Hybrid is over a year. p.p.s In the news today it says Ford is going discontinue the Focus. I have to say the newer models seem to have lost their Focus compared to the ground breaking original.

Shame about the Focus, but understandable. I was just looking at an A-Class today and lamenting why more people didn't choose a car that cleverly maximised interior space.

You’re not kidding about MS products. Power Automate and flow and Power Apps are all over the place but are really just tools but how they link together is vague and lost in people who would otherwise use them as good low code solutions.

Probably the reason it was better that the Qashqai Mk. 1 originally stayed as a SWB 5-seater was the European preference for smaller vehicles to tackle narrower European streets and roads. The years that the Rogue Sport version has been sold in US (as our host, who lives in The States, know all too well, US still gets the Mk. 2, and Nissan is not selling the Mk. 3 here) it hasn't been a success because it is considered TOO SMALL and TOO UNDERPOWERED (NA-2.0L 141hp) for the US market. All the sales that would've gone in US to the Qashqai / Rogue Sport went to the larger Rogue / Xtrail (at one time it sold > 300K units in US, slightly outselling the Camry and Rav4), which wasn't much more expensive than our Rogue Sport (a topline Rogue Sport sells for MORE than the topline Rogue in US).. Also in the Qashqai Mk. 2 Nissan used the same platform for the Rogue / Xtrail as well (both were even the same width).

Great videos on the Qashqai story. Probably a daft question. But as costs were such a big factor, why did Nissan use Renault engines so much, when they had there own?

Newer? They could consolidate construction to just a few locations, saving money?

I’m just wondering. How did the X trail fit in to this? Was it derived or sister in dev?
@LittleCar

It was originally an SUV, but newer models became a larger Qashqai (it was called the Rogue in the US).

Well, most of the smaller crossovers are still 2WD. In fact 4WD/AWD isn't even an option in many recent models, mainly because of emissions regulations and costs.

I had thought the reason for the popularity of the crossover style was that the baby boomers were starting to get bad backs and joints. The younger families found strapping children into carseats was easier if they were raised. Personally I wouldn't have one as it is too high for the dog to jump in and out of.

Practically, they are better than a comparable hatchback. Although whilst some manufacturers are ditching traditional hatches, companies like Peugeot are keeping their 308. It is said this version of the Golf will be the last.
