Yeah yeah we know, you or your friend hit 166mph in your mom’s minivan in a grocery store parking lot back in high school. Sure. But in the 70s, a factory fresh car with not a ton of upgrades going 166mph was a real achievement… enough of an achievement, that this very car held a speed record in its class for almost a decade. And now, our friends at Z car garage are letting us drive it.

No disrespect to THIS car, but what really hits you if you know your history is how much respect you have to have for guys like Norman Dewis!! That fella went 172 in 1953 in a lightly modified XK120 that was reported converted back to stock form and sold later by Jaguar. Different times...

My first JDM purchase back in the day was a 280ZX. Then 240-260-280 I forget how many. That straight six was so easy to work on 🔧. Still waiting for the GTR R34 to be legal for import to get back into the Nissan game.

Great car. I wasnt aware that any of the 70 cars had clear rear hatch glass. My 4/70 didnt, my 12/69 did. Haha the buzzer comment is great. I think many people just disconnect them. They are annoying.

The tag on the rear is signed by Yutaka Katayama (Mr. K) and the other signature looks to be Yoshihiko Matsuo, the designer of the 240Z.

amazing that they could get this to 160mph with the s30 aerodynamics, at 130 the front comes up without a G nose and the back starts to lift hard at 150mph.. who ever drove this was an animal... S30's were so far ahead of everyone else except aerodynamics...
