This winter, Nissan is introducing a special version of its X-Trail vehicle, equipped with e-4ORCE all-wheel drive technology, to aid in mountain rescue operations at European ski resorts. This unique vehicle, known as the X-Trail Mountain Rescue, has been extensively modified to navigate snowy terrains effectively.
Key Modifications for Enhanced Performance
One of the significant changes to the X-Trail includes swapping its regular wheels for snow tracks. These tracks are crucial as they provide better grip on the often slippery and uneven surfaces of snowy slopes. Additionally, the vehicle has undergone internal alterations. The back seats have been removed to make space for a stretcher, which is essential for transporting injured skiers to nearby medical facilities. There's also room for a medical professional to accompany the patient.
Exterior Additions for Rescue Missions
The exterior of the X-Trail Mountain Rescue isn't left untouched. It features a custom roof rack designed to hold an evacuation stretcher and snow shovels - vital tools for rescue operations. The vehicle is also equipped with a siren, a flashing light bar, and extra powerful lights on its roof and hood for visibility in challenging conditions. Modifications like wider fenders and an enhanced front bumper with a winch further equip the X-Trail for its mountain rescue role. To assist in towing and easier access, reinforced hooks and footboards have been added.
Advanced Technology for Safe Navigation
The heart of the X-Trail Mountain Rescue's capability lies in its e-4ORCE twin-motor all-wheel drive system. This system is advanced compared to traditional mechanical systems, capable of adapting to changes in grip almost instantaneously - about 1000 times faster. It ensures that power is distributed to each wheel based on the current traction, guaranteeing a safe and stable ride across various terrains like wet, muddy, or snowy paths.
Raising Awareness through 'Ride Responsibly' Campaign
In a unique initiative, Nissan is also promoting safe skiing practices through its "Ride Responsibly" campaign. This campaign is active in five European ski resorts. It involves setting up digital signs that remind skiers to maintain safe speeds, especially at the junctions of different slopes. These signs display appreciative messages for those skiing at safe speeds and cautionary ones for those going too fast. The X-Trail Mountain Rescue is part of this campaign and will be showcased in a glass display at Cervinia, a popular ski resort in Italy.
