I just changed my grommet. I had to buy a cable from the dealer, remove the grommet and put the new grommet into the old cable. I didn't pull the cable out though. I did it in situ but ran a string through the grommet and the metal loop so that if I dropped it which I did several times, it would never get lost. I was lucky to also be in drive when it broke.

Thank you for posting this. I got to work and as I was trying to shift to park, it wouldn’t. A friend knew someone that would “fix” it. Had to go to amazon and bought the bushing repair kit like you had. The guy was supposed to come on Saturday, but it is memorial day weekend and so he needed to go out of town. I couldn’t wait until Tuesday, so I followed your video. I’ve never done any kind of repair on my vehicle before. You made it so simple and clear what to do. No fancy tools just what I already had in my toolbox. Had my flashlight ready. And you were right,The hardest part was putting everything back. Thank you again for posting this video.

Same thing happened on my 06 Xterra, luckily happened while backing out of my driveway! Pretty simple fix! I pulled on one side of cup holders and pulled out, pulled up on the rear part (near cup holders)of the plastic that goes around shifter,(comes right off) then pulled up on shifter handle and it came up! Took about 5 mins! Ordered my bushing from Bushing Fix! Thank You Sir for the video!

Thank you. I found it easier to hook up the bushing first to the shiftetr rod then align the cable in the bracket and put back the locking pin. It did take me a little bit to figure out how to position the cable in the bracket and apply the locking pin.

Worked exactly as described. Much easier to do when removing clip so cable can be lifted up for install. That company is making a fortune selling a 25 cent bushing for $ 25.

I had the same thing happen to my 2008 Pathfinder. Found your vid and ordered from bushingfix. I'm also in Fla., but added priority ship. It came in two days. My console was a little different. The main piece the shift handle comes through curves up and includes the seat warmer switches. Also, the small panel above comes out with four torx screws and makes it even more open. Pulling down the silver plastic bezel under the shift knob exposes a u-shape clip which when removed, allows the shift knob removal. The main curved panel then can be removed and set aside. Your vid encouraged my to fix it myself. I searched for the bushing, but couldn't find it for my exact model. Only Bushingfix had it. $24.99 + ship. I guess one could drive the car if the shift cable was exposed and manipulated by hand with the indication of the gear selected showing on the dashboard. THANKS.

Thanks for posting this video. The only thing I'd add is that you don't need any grease on the outside of the bushing. You can put the grease directly on the metal pin on the shift lever and that will be sufficient to keep everything working properly.

You rock! This video was extremely helpful for my 2005 Nissan Frontier. I ordered the bushing from bushingfix.com . They are located in Florida and said it would take 5-6 days to get and I got it in 3 days all the way to Hawaii. The tip on removing the cable was a big help. $30 for bushing and shipping vs $50 for the whole cable from Nissan with the same poor bushing. Imagine what it would have cost if I took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole cable.

well done! I just had the exact same problem with my 2006 titan. I bought the Dorman 14055 bushing kit for $10.00 to repair mine. I think someone on the titan forums had done this before. It isn't the same and is difficult to put on but it does work. The dealer wants $500 + to replace the entire cable, they will not replace the bushing.

Hi, so I just got my transmission replaced, and my 2005 XTerra won't turn over in Park usually unless I push up on the shifter or put it in neutral. Just wondering if you noticed any similar issue before it came off completely for you. Trying to determine if this might be my issue. Thanks for the video!
@ferdinandasalls
@ferdinandasalls 5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it could be your transmission position sensor. It's where the transmission shifter cable connects to down by the transmission. It's attached to the side of the transmission. I'd take it back to whomever installed your transmission and have them take a look at it. Or you can look under the car from the right side, about where the front passenger door is, you don't have to lift the car but make sure it's off, in park, and on a flat surface. You'll see the shifter cable connected to it. Make sure it looks right. I would take it back to the mechanic that replaced it, since they just worked on it.
@hokiedokie

Next time it happens, you dont need to climb under the truck to manually shift it.. remove the cable retainer clip off the cable, grab cable and shift it by hand by pushing and pulling..the same action as if it as connected to the shifter..from inside the vehicle.

Hey ferdinandasalls, i just had this issue happen to me this week. I usually do a lot of my own work on my cars mostly Honda's. However, the only part of job am having issues with is removing the shift mechanism out of the way. How did you removed it? That's if you recall it since it was 8 months ago. I am waiting on part as we speak, if you happen to look on this threat again please let me know. In the mean time I'll be trying to figured it out. Great job on video. Thanks

Greetings In reference to shift mechanism question, I meant to say the plastic cover shift indicator ("P, R, D, 1...). However, i figured it out by pressing on shift lock and wiggling it up and out. I am G2G it has been fixed. Again, I appreciate your knowledge and sharing your KZfaq video. Thank you

Once you have the new bushing on the shifter cable, putting it back on the rod should be very easy. You should be able to just snap it back on with some light pressure. you might be trying to put it back on the rod backwards. See if that helps.

You can pull down the silver bezel below the knob exposing a u shaped clip. Remove the clip and pull the knob up and off. Put the bezel back on before replacing the knob. On mine it mattered which way it was facing.

The shifter cover just pulls straight up to come off then a few screws. My 2008 shift knob has a chrome plastic bezel that when pulled down, exposes a u shaped clip. Removing the clip allows the knob to be removed.
