Nitecore NU21 lightweight headlamp for outdoors and trail running.
Having used and enjoyed the NU33 for as simple pick up and go light I was happy to look at this smaller brother. Stripped right back with a quick lace style band and low weight. So far im having fun testing it. Is it enough to actually trail run with? im still testing that. full review up when all testing is complete.

Cheers 👍. I do like to try and cover quite a bit so it saves people having to ask follow-up questions after watching. Very happy that you enjoy mate. 😁

Power drops are "data magic". Therefore, it is worth looking for independent tests that show graphical readings of the workflow. Some flashlights reduce the power by 50 or even 80% in a few dozen seconds or a few minutes. Then in the data we have a record that SO MANY hours are lit "in max mode" ...

For example, NU33 reduces the power to 44% (about 310lm) in 6 minutes.

yes cheers I suspected there may be drop off to get the runtimes stated. I remember seeing this on the older nitecore keychain lights where it basically goes down and down until it flickers out.

Interesting initial thoughts. The olight perun 2 mini and the sofirn hs10 2700k/4000k are my current favourite lightweight headlamps due to 16340 compatibility. I could see this type of light being useful for a non flashaholic xmas gift.

Oh definitely, no flashaholics and the mass market will lap this up. it looks nice and it works fine. Are there higher capacity lights sure but then they are heavier and if they want to aim this at runners I see what they are trying to offer here. I would like to see this come in at 1000 to 1500 mah model like a NU25 as this is a very small capacity.

Would be great to see a comparison between the NU21 and the very slightly larger NU25 :)

its so interesting that you mention this light as I was trying to run with the nu21 and also the nu33. I think the nu21 is border line bright enough but the nu33 is too heavy in comparison for running I was wanting something in between and I feel like the nu25 sounds like thats what it is. Have you got one or are you after one i will see if they have a sale on.

Small weight=small built in battery. Generally junk.

True I see some tiny headlamps that suck. I guess they are interested in the ultralight hiking and running scene with this one. First run with this its good at what its intended for, an ultra light weight trail running light. BUT in my humble opinion its borderline as its just enough light to do that but and I will be saying in the full review that it works fine just up to and not into the full technical trail runs level. I cant justify this for use on technical trails with deep roots and loose gravel slopes etc. I'm going to do another trail run test on harder ground with no dampness to darken the mud as well but I feel like I am right on my thinking in regards this suggested usage.

In the 170 lumens mode, is it capable of staying on for the 3 hours indicated in the manual or does it drop to 60 lumens shortly so as not to overheat? I need 170 lumens for at least 1 hour.... I have the Nitecore H11 and it lowers the intensity shortly after turning on. thank you

I don't know. Seems like a decent little light for indoor use, working on equipment etc. But not much of an outdoor headlamp. (good length for a video )

It's right at the limit here due to taking to be mega light weight. I would trail run on turbo if there was no rain and it's was a non technical trail. It's fine for a hike but I'd take a heavier unit with more capacity.

There has not yet been found one that would make a flashlight that with a power of 360lm shines for 2 hours on a 500mAh battery. Elon Musk himself would be shocked 🤣
@TrailTrek
@TrailTrek Жыл бұрын
ha ha ha ha ha. cheers yes I thought there must be some kind of drop off to a lower level. My TINI2 only has a 500mah and its just a tiny little keychain light. 360 for 2 hours sounded hard to believe. No Musk miracle going on then I guess.
@stefanp5261
@stefanp5261 Жыл бұрын
This flashlight shines "in 360lm mode - 2 hours". And in practice? 5min and stepwise decrease to 150lm? Then it would be possible to spend 2 hours on this small battery.

Nitecores figures must leave out the lowering over time. if I didn't have to work full time I would also do times runtime tests to get a load of graphical data over time for every light. Do you have the testing equipment for this il send you the light are you UK based?

@TrailTrek
@TrailTrek Жыл бұрын
Cheers for the input. If I don't harp on about cri the people that love it harp on at me 😁. I've done a run with this and for me it's at the limit of what I would use to night trail run. And if it was a technical trail with deep roots and so on then I don't think it's enough. I will mention this in the full review. I feel like they need something half way between the NU33 and this NU21. But I guess with this light they are trying to enter the ultra light arena. I love a lot of light on night hikes and night trails. What light do you use on trail?
