The batteries are IMR 18650 batteries. Different chemistry than regular 18650 batts. They basically get the juice faster to the flashlight than reg 18650s. This type of battery is better for high power FL in that it lets these FL show there full potential. Downside is that they don't last quite as long. Also, you can get these from other manufacturers for less $$ on Amazon or the like. For a good detailed explanation of all this, Google , "difference between 18650 and IMR batteries?" then pick candlepowerforums.com from the list

Looks like a nice balance of flood and throw, and a lot of lumens for that small of a light. It definitely lives up to its name lol. I would like to see more of an even spread on the lower end of the modes, though. Maybe like the 40 lm could be the equivalent of a "moonlight"/ultra-low mode, then like 120 lm for low, 300 for medium, then the 550 for high, then the 1350 for ultra-high, then the 2500 for turbo. It's still awesome, and hey, nothing's perfect. Nice review as always, Ben! :)

The "made only for TM03" battery is nothing but an IMR, a lithium-ion cell that uses manganese instead of the usual cobalt (ICR). It's got considerably less capacity, but handles extremely high drain very well.

Hi Ben, as always I liked the review but there's one question left: what happens if you use a normal 18650 batterie in the TM03? I can't imagine that this would damage the light but I expect the output to decrease. Would you be so kind and test this out so I can decide wether it's worth buying or not? It really depends on this issue since I have some 18650s for my other lights and would want to use them in den tm03 as well. The recommended batteries from nite core are way to expensive in my opinion. Unfortunately I couldn't find any information about it on the internet and don't know anyone who owns the flashlight. Thank you in advance and greetings from Germany
@livingsurvival7 жыл бұрын
you can use other 18650's. they have just designed this one to output higher and longer. but not by much.

NICE REVIEW!!! Is it true that it has a 2 sec delay between modes?
@livingsurvival7 жыл бұрын

@5-stringslinger1497 жыл бұрын
I've been waiting for a review of this newer light, specifically from one of my go-to subscriptions. It's pretty sweet...for exactly what you said...a handheld, smaller spotlight. The fact it has to have its own, dedicated battery is kind of silly, but I get what Nitecore is doing with their products. Constantly in competition, but so many great brands to choose from. I really liked that little F1 charger you showed. I'll definitely be looking into one of those. What are your thoughts on the 18650 batteries that have a micro USB charging port...that goes directly into the battery? Built right in?Thought those looked interesting and didn't know if you've heard of or used any before? Great reviews as always. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your weekend!

I'm not a fan of USB recharging for 2 reasons. 1st it takes over 8 hours to charge that way. No thanks, I would rather use the d4 charger and cut the charge time down to 2 hours. 2nd I'm a diver, i must have a newer version because mine has 2 orings. I don't care what Nitecore says, this light is waterproof to at least 30meters for as long as the battery has power. Even in the salty ocean. Always silicone your orings before salt water use!

Considering the level of competition and the continuous improvement of of the LEDs, I would disagree and keep the flashlight reviews going. He does an excellent job comparing lights and by far one of if not the best on youtube.
