I actually rarely comment on anything, because it’s a waste of time to get in arguments with strangers. Being from Jersey, we take a lot of crap from other places, (imo debatable in most cases,) but the Devils were always something we used to be able to point to and have pride in. I still take pride in that team, as I’m guessing everyone else here does as well, which is where the passion comes from on all sides. I believe you are correct about the division between younger and older fans, I frequently see people saying “let Fitz cook/Fitz is cooking, etc.” and view them as being way too lenient on him. But for my part I can also be too harsh on him as well. He’s definitely not the worst GM, and like you said we should all be rooting for him and this team to succeed. The dynasty years were wonderful, but there was a time we didn’t have that, and celebrated those minor moments like Johnny Mac clinching playoffs, or proving we weren’t a “Mickey Mouse” franchise. There was a time where we almost moved to Nashville. How awesome it is that we have these “let Fitz cook,” younger fans that will encourage the team to stay where it belongs in NJ. They’re bringing their passion IN ADDITION to our passion. I follow the younger kids on IG as well as you, because I’m glad they stay positive as long as they can and get excited about little things. They are a part of this team’s culture, and like you said at the heart we are all there for the Devils and their success. In general I default to agree with a lot of your views on the team though, as we seem to have a similar history watching the team,so I’m grateful for a different perspective, and ask that you continue wearing your heart on your sleeve, and doing exactly what you’re doing. (Also, I’ll put the 2000 team up against any team! lol) I think if we can all listen to each other we see the truth falls in the middle, and it’s not that Fitz is “king Midas in reverse” to quote Tony Soprano, and he’s also not infallible, he’s a human being probably trying to do his best, and sometimes it works: sometimes it doesn’t. Hey man, I discovered your channel a few weeks ago when I was desperate for more hockey. I have no idea what you’re talking about with the negativity (I don’t read the comments frequently). That said, I love your show. I live out of market and have NOBODY to talk to about the devs. Your off the cuff “emotional” side is fun to see. Makes me feel like I’m talking sports with my buddies. Keep it up dude.

Though the Top 6 help would be nice, the reality is we weren't losing 2-1s, we were losing 4-6s. We know we can put the puck in their net; we desperately needed to stop the puck from going in our's, and the moves really addressed that. Even if our scoring capabilities take a small hit, I'd say at least 10-20 more games this season can be saved by the new guys that can have the back of our scorers, hold their own, and make more of our opponents hesitate to come near our net. As you said, of course there's more that Fitz could've done, as it always will be, but overall I'm very excited for this season.

I go back to the barren days before Kirk Muller, and they were pretty lean AFTER Kirk Muller. 40 years of native New Jersey ranger fans ripping a New Jersey team for…..being in New Jersey; mind boggling. This is our team and we should be able to support them and get along in the process. I like to think that we’re all friends here.

I agree the divide seems to be between older and younger fans. The older fans who followed the team in the 90’s grew up watching a perennial playoff team. And not just a perennial playoff team, but a perennial playoff team that went deep many times. 94 Conference Finals, 95 Stanley Cup Champs, 2000 Stanley Cup Champs, 2001 Stanley Cup Finals, 2003 Stanley Cup Champs. What a time it was to be a fan. But as contracts expire and players age rebuild is inevitable and since that last Cup in 03 there really hasn’t been a lot to write home about other than the run to finals in 2012. After that the “highlights” were a five game first round elimination in 2018 and winning a round against the Rags in 23. So the older fans who have stuck with the team through the dark years are hungry to see the team return to their old form of a cup contender while newer fans who are maybe more patient question the long term value when they see deals like NJ signing a tender towards the end of his career. We’re all here for the Devils and I truly believe we are going to have a season to remember in 24-25. LGD!!!

Great video, being nice to each other should be automatic. Devils fans know each others pains & heartbreaks, along with each others success & the good times. Love the idea of Devils history sharing, the kids need to hear about some of this, even the non Stanley cup years (2006 EOY heater to steal the division from the Rangers on the last day of season & then SWEEPING them) You aren’t wrong about this being a cup team! I’ve continually said this is not a cup team, but I only mean that our homegrown core isn’t mature enough. That could all change this season with this many additions. I can see Palat & Haula improving with more vets to relate with in the locker room. I also was really upset with Fitz but sometimes forcing a move is worse. No bad signing, just room for more. Maybe that sorts itself out mid season (like trading for Jason Arnott back in the day) October can’t get here soon enough- till then, looking forward to the book reading, & the history lessons along the way (maybe you tie the two together as a trip down memory lane) Best Devils content out there 😈

The Devils are the reason I fell in love with hockey. I'm from east TN and still live here and Marty, Scott Stevens, and Elias were absolute heroes to 8 year old me. When your original perspective of something involves legends of that caliber, it stays a bit skewed the rest of your life. Sports fans in particular will always demand performance from their team, it's part of the passion. The fact is the future is bright and the present is brighter than it seems. There will never be something as awful as the kovalsuck deal again and there is quite a bit of talent in our prospect pool. If someone can convince Jack to keep his head on a swivel like he did the previous two seasons before last and our new additions pan out like they seem, we have a hell of a hockey club to cheer for. I have my doubts about tatar, but the line with him, Nico, and Dawson was spectacular during the record season. Timo's issues seem to have been injury related and if he steps up and Bratter continues to somehow improve like he has literally every season, we will be a force in the league for years to come. I feel like our time at the top of the mountain has come. October can't get here soon enough. Let's fucking go Devils!!

Grit and maturity. That’s what will contribute to a far better season next year. Goaltending will also be improved, obviously, but the team is going to be much more difficult to play against. I’m optimistic for that alone.

Hi Ace, I don't always agree with you, but I do enjoy your show, and I appreciate the time and effort that you put into bringing us your show. As far as Ftizy goes, I don't love him and I don't hate him. I do think he has done a fantastic job this off season. Getting a top six player is not easy. There needs to be two parties to make a fair deal happen. Finally, I think Mercer needs to step up and Palat needs to step up. If we are paying a player 6 million a year, he has to be a top six player. Finally, finally, thank you for the prospect's video. You did more to show them to us than the Devils did!

Stay honest. That's all you can do. You clearly are knowledgeable on the team and the sport. There are some people who seek content creators and their comments section to validate their own feelings; and dismiss someone when they disagree (in general, not just sports). Just stay honest, and the right people will stick around long-term (including those who disagree with you).

1) I hear Ace and there is a big range of emotions and points of view. 2) Fitz isn't the greatest, but I am going to be hated for it, he aint the worst. 3) I don't think we had a problem in the offensive end. We went up to the middle of the season with a high scoring like more than 2 goals in most games. We stopped because Lindy tried to address the def problem by pulling the team back to full def (which didn't work) So, it is my belief that a big trade up front was not necessary. This is my view of it. 4) The drafts and free agency process went way our way. We could do better? Sure! We could do much worse tho. Markstom, Pesce, Dillon, Silayev, and Kovacevic are all great choices. (add to that the rest that came in mostly.) The only great disagreement I had was tha Akira - Holtz deal for Cotten. 5) What is my expectation? pass the first round of the playoffs realistically. I hope to get the cup but realistically I see the cup coming our way in the next 2 years but not this one. I may be wrong sure but that is what I think.

I think Fitz has us in a really good spot, and we need to give the stew some time to cook on the stove. Nobody has a Stanley Cup team 100% complete after 4 days of free agency. We do have a well balanced team, which is going to make us hard to figure out. Also going to make the rival games soo much more exciting when you have a set of hulk hands on, so enjoy the climb. I’ve been extremely critical of Fitz especially because of how this last season played out but I can understand and am excited for next year. Now that the draft and free agency has opened and we’ve gotten our guys, I’d rather have an optimistic outlook for next year than continue to dwell on what happened this past cursed season and some of the moves I disagree with since (mostly the Holtz debacle). I do think we’re still one top six forward from being true contenders, but I do also think Tatar and/or Palat can step it up this year in that last spot until the trade deadline: we don’t have a first but have three seconds if I remember right so we can be buyers. Let’s go Devils!

Just like you, Ace, I've been a longtime fan of this franchise. We've all gone through a dreadful decade and we not only expect better, we freaking deserve better. There's no reason why there should be infighting among Devils fans, we all have differing opinions and points of view but we all root for the same team and we all want to see these guys succeed, save the animus for fans of other franchises. As much as I would've liked to have seen Fitz add a bonafide sniper or a legitimate scorer to the top of the lineup, we just couldn't at this time, not if we wanted to shore up our defense and goaltending, which I believe were more critical. Even if they had wanted to come here in the first place, we would've had to pay even more than what Stamkos or Marchessault wound up getting from Nashville. Anybody here want to give DeBrusk or Bertuzzi huge money for several years? I agree with you, if we can stay healthy, if our new guys can mesh and if everybody can produce as they're expected to, there's no reason why we can't compete for a division title. While I don't believe this group is capable of winning a Cup next season, why can't we win a couple of rounds next spring? Seattle, with a lot less talent than we have, managed to get within a game of the WCF in 2022-23. I don't want Fitz to make short-sighted decisions that will jeopardize our chances to win in the long run but you can only rebuild for so long, we need to be focused on that next step, otherwise what was the point of it all? Nico and Jack have been here a combined 12 seasons already and have only made the playoffs three total times and just once while on the same team, that's simply not good enough. Quite frankly, that's pathetic. Fitz ought to be doing everything in his power to get this team over the hump and make the playoffs every season for the next decade so that we can finally end that 20+ year Cup drought. He should be prepared and willing to be cutthroat and bold, like Brisebois in Tampa, McCrimmon in Vegas and Zito in Florida, in order to reach that goal.

I’m an in between I grew up with the Lou teams, but after 2013 we all came to realization that our Dynasty was coming to an End. After the rebuild we’ve had ups and downs making it 2018 not making it this year. It’s a time of transition I think fitz does a good job building off another good job with ray shero. Lou cleaned house and left to Toronto it was smart too because less competition for Toronto in those years

Love your videos and agree people need to learn how to respectfully disagree and debate points, we all see things differently. IMO I feel like the entire fan base seems to want a cup winning lineup on the ice in October. I firmly believe will be in a playoff spot come trade deadline and we can absolutely add at the deadline for a playoff run. This seems to be escaping people. I know personally from 95-2000 we always used to not get a superstar at deadline…then finally in 2000 we got Mogilny and we got the desired result! That is a possibility that people shouldn’t overlook. I’m super optimistic about this season!

Hey Ace. I've disagreed with you sometimes, and sometimes strongly, ... I hope it isn't too aggravating haha. I'm really more on the same page with your takes than not. I think there's two approaches to Fitz, and to being a sports fan in general. You can either trust him, which opens you up to major disappointment if he screws up, ... or you can not trust him with the hope you'll be pleasantly surprised when he does well. I think the second way might be wiser, but personally I tend to trust the guy. I appreciate how much you care, how much content you're turning out, and how you always reply to comments.

good video ace. i actually think theres some nuance to it too, i dont think subscribing to one side has to mean being against the other. i was a huge fan of keeping 10OA but ive also been fully on board with addressing the net, redoing some of the D core and bottom 6, etc. i guess you could call it a win now mentality with the caveat of not being win now at all costs. just dont think theres anything we realistically couldve dealt for that wouldve been able to help us these next 2 years more than silayev will be able to help the following 15. there might be a time to be that desperate but not yet imo

I see where you're coming from, but the one thing that many fans aren't understanding is that building a champion isn't just about talent. I love top prospects and talent but it is time to ice a complete team. Doesn't mean all the moves were good, doesn't mean that asset management isn't important but McLeod was a bigger loss than toffoli even though toffoli is great and much better than him, but we lost something that was important to the team. Not saying it's a perfect offseason but Fitz gave hope by building a tougher Defense to play with, and better role players. Don't forget those championship teams weren't build on superstars

Something lost here is due to Lindys system we played a high risk offensive game. Part of that was personnel the other was system. Lindy needs a top netminder to be successful in the playoffs. We are not that anymore. SK system will be a bit more structured we have a goalie who can give us league avg if not better. We have cap for a mid season splash. Let it roll. Dawgson will return to 50 point form, heck just 5-8 years ago Palmieri was our best forward 😂. This will not be the same team for better or worse.

I would definitely like to see another top 6 forward to join this team. I think we need to find a forward that would click with Jack Hughes on his line. The other forwards all play well with Nico. That's what I see. So, that's my opinion.

We're all a little Trail Mix in this fandom 🤣 but that adds to the charm. This season feels like it could possibly be a hybrid of Smash and Rush hockey. I am excited to see how the 3rd and 4th lines look. Noesen could be a Swiss Army knife that could be inserted anywhere in the lineup. Last season was one of the worst on record that I've seen in many years. The injury bug needs to go to another city in 24-25.

Not such a huge thing there, but not easy either. 82 games to earn points to qualify and get your team ready for that insane 2 month grind. Im not a huge fan of that press conference for what you stated but I am also hoping this team goes into tunnel vision and views every game as a way to get points and isnt taking nights and shifts off, thinking whatever. They have gotten older with these moves, hopefully more mature than that shit show of last year and serious. Not this happy to be here bullshit and "kids are learning", I bet luke feels bad, crap. Fitz shot himself in the foot thinking the NHL is a developmental league, its not. A player who I think could be a BIG X FACTOR? ... Nolan Foote. Last year was supposed to be his breakout year, then a freaking season-ending injury during exhibition games. He's looked good in small samples. I think he will surprise us.

all it'll take is a deep run this season to change people's attitudes towards one another. winning fixes everything. i personally consider myself extremely lucky to be a devils fan, we get to watch a guy like jack do what he does and not every team has a player like that let alone having everyone else thats is on this team, and im very grateful that we have what we have, because 10 years ago we didnt, and that was a tough time to survive being a devil's fan... everyone who went through it knows. i also think us being as bad as we were for so long has a lot to do with how we act as a fanbase. at the end of the day we could be like buffalo fans, 1969-present and 0 cups to show for all those seasons played. things could 100% be worse than anything we've ever witnessed as a fanbase.

We all want to win a cup And we all have the same expectations. With that said we aren’t a “cup or bust team” right now. I think the fans that saw our dynasty need to understand we don’t have a Marty or a Stevens or a niedermayer. We will win a cup over the next 5+ years but it’s not as simple as putting all our chips in the middle every year and neglecting the future and cap straining us every year. Every team is trying to win the cup too and we have to build with what we got. That means a balanced team of stars, vets, young players on their ELCs etc. Let’s all get along and be respectful like ace is saying but it’s going to take patience and building it right so we can build a true winning team not just on paper. No wrong way to be a fan. I disagree with a lot of fans. There's no way people can watch every game around the NHL to understand what we are getting and giving in trades. And even if they did, I'm sure we would find different things to appreciate and value. It's just a little silly that we can't hold thoughts to ourselves anymore. I probably disagree some of the options on here. But don't care enough argue about it. Cause none of our opinions matter or affect team mgmt. 🤣 I just started following the devils because I'm just a fan of the sport and appreciate the talent of the core and would like to see them win a cup a some point. Hopefully it doesn't take 7 years to do it but you never really know with the parity. Most teams are battling and want to win just as much as our team.

Just a reminder, Noesen wasn't tendered a contract the last time he was a Devil, by Fitzgerald, and his career spiraled on life support. To his credit he resurrected it with Carolina into a decent 4th liner. Which he was, last time he was a Devil. Tatar was a 20 goal scorer 2 years ago, but may be running out of legs. Tons of guys can chip in 15-20 goals in this league. Giving him 1.8 million when no one else would have signed him for more than a minimum contract is ludicrous. He might contribute 20 goals playing with Hischier again, but have we forgotten his disappearing act in the Rangers playoff series and then Carolina? Just pointing out that for 2 weeks Ace, you said trade that 10pick, don't care about picks, don't want it, and now you love Silayev? When you killed people who wanted to keep the pick. But now , ...why can't we just all get along?

i’m a young fan came into the team in 2009 . but if u r saying that u find its the older fans who arent happy with just making the playoffs - please put me in that category . i will be very pissed off if we r a team that wins 46 games and gets eliminated in the first round . unfortunately it sounds like fitzy would consider that a success and ‘step in the rite direction’ . the p. conf was among the more embarrassing i saw as a fan . i never heard a gm refer to a collapse of a season last yr as a ‘silver lining’ . thats where he lost me as a fan

Ok , Fitz is neither a public speaker nor confidence coach but these are not the main attributes of a good general manager . In my opinion he’s done a good job this summer . I am looking at a glass half full : proven head coach , proven goalie , three gritty defensemen , two gritty forwards and we haven’t lost a major piece except Holtz who hasn’t even proved himself to be a major piece . The amount of pessimism towards Fitz and this franchise gets really annoying at times. I have a guy at work who will literally never be happy about anything the Devils do. He calls me over and talks to me about how "Keefe is going to bury Timo on the 3rd line." Then starts talking about how the Devils have "zero goalie depth when Markstrom and Allen get injured." Like man how do you live your life like this?

The more I think about the signings the more I hate it. Dougie, Jack, Luke play non existent defense and palats contract blocks the top 6 needed to win a cup. When we can finally get those contracts off we will be in the final year contract of all the guys we just signed at age 35. Win now loses later.

Not sure what happened to you the last few days but suddenly we became Fitzgerald supporters? I get it that to some it might seem piling on, but if we are being honest, our GM has been brutal. Too many things to list, but i guess he has beaten you down to a point where you are putting up the white flag. The moves that were made were done from sheer necessity. Period. So did we improve? On paper we did, but what are we building? Is there a plan? Or was this a save my ass moment. Fitzgerald himself said in his press conference that he felt confident going into last season. CONFIDENT with Vitek as his starting goalie! Enough said! NO ONE wants the Devils to win more than i do, having experienced the late 80's Devils thru the 3 cup winners to present day. Can't keep defending Fitzgerald just because you want everyone to play nice. For a guy who preaches, " i like violence " you got awfully soft all of sudden.

Fitzy is the reason Devils fans are split. He's an average GM and that means that his teams, over time, will be average. Is that good enough? I don't think so. Fitzgerald does not inspire confidence. As you said, yourself, during press conferences, he looks like a kid who's been called into the principal's office. Is that what we want to see? No. We want to see a confident leader. That's not Fitzy. The clock is ticking on this team's "window" and there are no seasons to waste. Keefe better hit the ground running. He doesn't get a mulligan this year. All that being said, this team should be much better than last year's disaster. Will it win a Cup? No. But it should win a couple of playoff series, if the matchups are OK.

I’m in the “Win Now” group, but you still have to make sure the future is set up. Robbing Peter to feed Paul isn’t a good game plan. Fitz did good setting up this coming season for success and the future also. The Downers just like the easy “Told ya so” when things don’t go as planned and it’s kinda pathetic to make negative predictions the 1st month into the season or a player who’s 1/2 way into a season with a new team. With that said, if people base their subjective opinions on reality instead of pessimism, we would have a better conversation. The Glory Days. You should try to get Doc or Chico for an interview about it.

My hopes are for a new GM at the end of the season. Fitz is the worst in the league. He failed miserably. Middle & bottom tier scraps is all he delivered. Nobody asked for washed up Tatar back. Nobody cares about Noesen. No improvements were made at the forward position. Apparently all emphasis was put on getting tall players in their mid 30's. Guys who are average to slightly above average. No impact player. Nobody that moves the needle. I'm not excited about anybody brought in. Not one jersey will be sold from this group. Yet we have fans running around acting like Fitz hit a grand slam. Whatever! I'm less excited about the season now. Zero enthusiasm. Can't wait to see Palat & Noesen in the top 6. All the 34 year old new signings will be the same mediocre guys they were elsewhere. But they have toughness though! That's gonna make the difference. Yeah right 😂
