NJ Devils Travis Green To Become Ottawa Senators Head Coach

Ай бұрынAll signs are pointing to New Jersey Devils Interim Head Coach Travis Green becoming the new Head Coach of the Ottawa Senators.
The NJ Devils also interviewed Craig Berube and Todd McLellan for the Head Coach position.

@chriskirgan9631 For sure. I have said I want a disciplinarian type for some time now. After hearing Fitz' end of season press conference, it seems he may think that is necessary as well.

@Redguard-Nazeem I don't think so. I think a lot of Greens fundamental principles are good. I just think this Devils team was so derailed this season that we need a brand new start with a new coach who wasn't here before. I think he will be OK for you guys....

@tommyd1871 One less mistake for Fitz to potentially make...although I do not think he was going to give it to him anyway. He had an audition, and we went 8-12-1. If we went like 13-6-2 or something he would have had a stronger case...

Honestly listening to his presser after the season I did like what he said about having a collaborative approach with Fitz, accountability, and most importantly creating his own indentity rather than idolizing one, which is what DJ Smith did. Hes a tougher coach than DJ and even though the results weren't there and Im not thrilled about the hire, I do believe he could be better in Ottawa than he was in Vancouver.

I think most devils fans are happy because we wanted a full fresh start, and with him being there all year as assistant and part interim coach we weren't really getting that..I think he's a good coach tho and deserves a fresh start himself

@sens_outlook He definitely says some of the right things. I think he could be a decent coach. This Devils group just needs a whole new direction. We need a shakeup all around, and it starts with the coach.

Sens fan here. I’m not at all upset about you wishing you had Brady. But he is ours… until his contract expires, at which point he will go wherever the hell he wants! Hope we win the cup before then.

I'm glad we halfheartedly did not make the playoffs. I don't think I could have handled getting swept by the rangers. It was F'in embarrassing losing to them during the reg season. Ive had enough. Hopefully the next one will be better.

@runninwiththedevils I hope you're right dude. I think you make a good point in your video regarding the hockey market dynamics. Ottawa is a much smaller market and less desirable than a giant like Toronto or MTL. Hopefully it shakes out and the doubts are put to rest.

@@runninwiththedevils I said it as a joke because in the end he made the rags players quit on him he was responsible for the collapse of the rangers last season. Only positive I will say is the rangers got better and his replacement is great so in the end it was for the best

The Brady idea I like, but it would cost too much. If i m Ottawa, I would ask for Bratt or Nico, +Draft pick (1st this year) or high prospect.

@wunzigan I wouldn't trade Nico, but would move Bratt if there was no way around it. I think there is a chance a package of something like this year's 1st round pick, Mercer, Casey could work....maybe an additional pick or prospect in there....

Thank God. Nothing against Green, I just don't think he's the right choice. I also don't trust Fitz to not make that mistake (retaining him) if he was still out there. News for our team should heat up shortly once the Toronto dominos fall at the end of the week. EDIT: just got to that part of the video where you said the same thing 😅 my bad. We totally agree

@jeffa.7618 We have about $20M in cap space heading into next season. Ideally if we were trading for Tkachuk, some salary could be going the other way. (someone like Marino, etc as an add on)

@GoodMenstruationAttitude In any deal to land Brady, it is almost assumed at this point that Mercer would be going the other way. There are other areas where we could potentially shed salary in separate deals, ie: Palat (with some retention), Marino, Siegs, etc.

I just don't get it. Why would they jump on him, what has he proved? I like Travis, but look at the nucks now. I dunno, just seems insane they wouldn't try to get literally anyone else before offering him the job. I just can't imagine any other team was like-" yeah we gotta move on travis before he gets scooped". Especially with the likes of Craig and even Sully potentially becoming available.

@millertime1101 It is possible, however I believe the Devils finish higher in the standings. (assuming Fitzgerald addresses some of the Devils needs this summer) That is a big assumption at this point though...

@millertime1101 Give it some time. The fun begins 7/1 when Free Agency begins. By then we will have a coach, and Fitz will need to get active to get a goalie and some d-men. I agree on upgrading Siegs and Marino. This is a big year for Bahl. Make or break IMO. It is time to use that big body and start slamming people.

@@runninwiththedevils I didn't see that sadly but will google it. :) My dad showed me videos of Mr Tortorella's antics as a Canucks and Ranger coach recently and he was as great back then, as now. Just a strong man. Devils need that especially with Fitzgerald and the ownership being about as strong as a soggy piece of fusilli (a noodle :) I think though the Devils though need someone like this.
