NJ Rabble Rousers. It’d be even more awesome if you guys could show how to build an NJ compliant Other Firearm. One video after another of parts getting described, assembled, measurements done and compliance with State Police passed. A true reality show of “How to beat NJ tyranny on a budget”. Building something like upcoming ModMat SBF Carbine (11.75” barrel, 27” overall length, with fore grip) would be just awesome. I’m sure many people would appreciate it.

It’s legal in NJ then don’t stay away from it for one minute just educate yourself on it. It falls into the ‘other firearm’ category which many manufacturers are now making for states like NJ and are legal. Just barely legal? Maybe but hey, it’s approved. The pistol brace and verticals grip must stay on them at all times in NJ.

Hi Jim. Unfortunately most PCCs are illegal in NJ. They don’t allow carbines by name in NJ. Best bet is to get a handgun or a rifle chambered in a pistol caliber such as an AR-9

cal30m1 thanks for stopping by! Yeah NJ is ridiculous. The reason the M1 Carbine is on the ban list is because it was banned by name including the Galil, FAL, Famas, etc. So anything containing that name is banned in NJ. Yes it’s just as ridiculous as it sounds.

It’s such a shame because when I worked in North Jersey, there were new carbines being made in Plainfield and Dunellen. NJ produced weapons banned in NJ, can’t get much more pathetic than that. What’s next, outlawing the Singer made 1911?

They have a full length 16in barrel and the stock has to be pinned. Takedown guns are not illegal in NJ they must have a full length barrel though.

Stephen Sampson verticals foregrips are not illegal on AR Rifle length and Other firearms. Other firearms must have a vertical foregrip and not hand-stops. Hand-stops are ok on rifle length ARs however.

creaturecore13 if they release one with a 10.5in barrel and the overall length is greater than 26in and they put a vertical front grip on and stamp ‘other firearm’ on it, then they can legally sell them in NJ. You would have to get a local FFL to ship one here however. I would try asking if they plan to make other firearms for NJ and then go down to your local FFL and ask if they can obtain one for you.

Building others in NJ is tough. It is supposed to be stamped other on the receiver however an 8.5” barrel would not cut it unless you welded the flash can onto it.

Shawn Keating it depends if they grandfather them into the law. Most times they do or else they mandate you turn them in.

Ryan Jones I don’t believe so. I only think braces are ok because they are on an ‘other firearm’ all other types of firearms cannot have them because they aren’t stamped ‘other’

Mike K I would look into the Other Firearms like the Troy A4 and the Modern Material Short Barrel Rifle. They are very much an AR-15 but go around many of the compliance laws here in NJ because of their classification.

bravo for other firearms you just need an FID. But for a handgun yes you need a separate handgun permit for each firearm.

Batcenti at 18 you can only get long guns or shotguns. I would go with a Ruger 10-22 for your first. Small easy to use and learn on and will last a lifetime.

@@ahntreo you can actually build one. Its legal however you need to be sure it is of the right configuration or they will give you a hard time for sure.

AR-15 is legal in NJ, what is no good is "adjustable" (pinned is a loop hole on that) stock and no flash hider. Don't quote me but i think the have to have 16" barrel min. "Others" are getting around the adjuatable stock, barrel length and flash hider with the "others" configuration with is a pistol brace that looks similar to a stock but it is not and can be adjustable, also they have a front grip or whatever they are calling it. The Troy comes with the Lower Engraved "Other" so it can be explained to tue police when they tell you it is illegal and want to arrest you. This is why building one can be tricky.

Joel Beckford thank you Joel! Unfortunately you cannot poses an AR pistol in NJ. The closest you can get is an ‘Other Firearm’ more or less an AR pistol but NJ compliant. A lot of the compliance work doesn’t have to be done.

I believe you can make it into an Other firearm but not an SBR. You can make an AOW in NJ but it must be registered with the ATF and you have to go through the whole process.

Gary Giarretta very controversial. The state police say you are not allowed to but I don’t think there is a written rule about it. Don’t quote me. It is skating on thin ice.

The state police have advised against it because they don’t want you accidentally making something that can get you in trouble. But if you follow all the silly guidelines you’re fine. No law against it.

@@FatbobRell yes you can with a metal cleaning rod down the barrel push the projectile out but be absolutely certain the gun is clear.

@@ElMenorLatino I think you’re referring to the case in NY vs NY Rifle and Pistol Club to make may issue states to shall issue. It will depend on how the case rules. I highly suggest you do not apply in the mean time because if you get denied you have to put on every 4473 (gun application) you purchase that you HAVE been denied a permit or a gun application in the past.

Sarm2k 2k yes but you have to have the stock pinned/welded

Pistol grip is considered the only tactical feature you can have now so no flash suppressor, no collapsible stock, no bayonet lug, etc.

SirHotness MM is a great option. There are plenty out there depending on your price range. I would say you should expect to pay around $1000 for a good performing AR. MM makes a great one, the Sig Tread is great, Troy A4, M&P Sport, etc.
