When I was younger I caught so many queen snakes where I live at. Especially along this when small creek. Sometimes I'd come across around 7 to 10 of them.

If you started with a marble salamander, everything would go well. Nice timber rattlesnakes and water snakes. At least four European species, the newt larvae aren’t toxic at all. They develop toxicity after metamorphosis. So they have very minimal success in fish-infested waters. You can find a few of them, but very rarely. On the other hand, toad tadpoles are toxic from the start and even eggs are toxic. Only the Metamorph stage is relatively harmless to predators.

How the timber rattlesnakes we have in New Hampshire are so much darker and alot less colorful than the ones down south?
@Oreosucka
@Oreosucka 2 жыл бұрын
in some places in south they are called canebrakes because of this and used to be a sub species! (Now clumped together as 1 species) And I can understand why as, down south you’ll never get timbers that look like other states, or live in the swamps

Question: When you flip over rocks and you find an animal under it, how do you put the rock back in place without hurting the animal, especially if they move? It would be sad if your squishing them when you put the rock back.
@NKFherping

Move them out and let them crawl back under after the rock is safely replaced. Easy.

County can give away a little too much for unique habitat which makes spots easily findable. Herpers don't do this for a reason.

A roughly 4ft rattlesnake with about 17 rattles is a" fairly young snake" because it has a taper to its tail? Can't be serious.

Well, no. The consensus from snakebite experts (ex. Dr. Spencer Greene) is that they’re incredibly low risk from infection. Your neighborhood dogs and cats are FAR more dangerous than nonvenomous snakes.

And on top of that, I’ve been doing this since I was old enough to walk and haven’t had a single infection in literally hundreds of nonvenomous bites.
