Baseball newbie here. Can anyone tell me why at 18:01, Grichuk decided to run? I mean, he didn't strike the ball, right? I'm trying to learn baseball by watching these matches. Some help would be appreciated.
@travisdailey62313 жыл бұрын
It was a drop third strike. In baseball if you swing at strike 3 and the catcher drops it you get the chance to try and run to first. 9 times out of 10 your out but sometimes the ball gets behind the catcher and if you beat the throw to first you get to stay there.

The Giants just have cardinals numbers
@benthekeeshond5454 жыл бұрын
The poor Cardinals ran into the "Just enough to win" Giants. The Cardinals were the better full-season team but the Giants were better at winning a single series. Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, and MadBum were the responsible pitchers for the 3 WS titles. Now, we know that they are no longer with the Giants. Timmy and Matt just lost their pitching skills. MadBum is now gone, it is officially the end of the Giants era.

Giants were better than the Cards when it mattered most.
@benthekeeshond5454 жыл бұрын
@@quiara25 Agree! This is because of Timmy, Matt, and MadBum. In baseball, we can agree that it is a team sport. However, if we can pick one position that can influence the outcome of the game, it got to be a pitcher. It is not easy to have a pitcher that can perform well enough to get the team into the playoff and then lights out in a do/die game. The Giants had three of them. On the contrary, future HOF Justin and Clayton are obviously very good pitchers. But Justin absolutely can't win in the WSs and Clayton is a less than average pitcher in October. When compared to Clayton and Justin, we can put into perspective how impressive Timmy, Matt, and MadBum were from 2010 - 2014.

Not in game one. Wainwright gave up 9 baserunners in 42/3 innings. Bumgarner gave up no runs in 7.67 and struck out 7. Bumgarner won the MVP. Didn't matter if Wainwright pitched slightly better in game 5 Madison toughed out the win. Bumgarner had a 1,72 era and wainwright posted a 3.08. Good but not good enough.
@tflo755 жыл бұрын
Bumgarner was only behind in this game because of a misplay in LF by Ishi that cost a run....and in Game 1 Bumgarner dominated the Cards, he was easily the better pitcher that game....you sound like a bitter Cards fan after 2012 & 2014...no doubt 2002 isn't one of your favorites either.

It was a great battle for sure, and Wainwright did do slightly better on this day (lets ignore the fact that Ishikawa's misplay in left field cost Bum a bit). However in the end it didn't matter. Bum kept us in the game all the way into the 8th and that's all we needed. One swing from Morse and suddenly the little bit that Wainwright did better than Bum on this night was erased.
