This is a bit longer than usual but I wanted to show the whole creative process without using timelapse. I've been getting comments about the silence in the demo videos that people seem to like, so no talking and no music. Hope you find the demo useful, more on the way.
Materials used :
160gsm smooth white card
Winsor & Newton Winton oil paint
Prussian Blue, Vandyke Brown
Pallet knife, blunt pencil, sponge and rags
Recycled plastic & cardboard, masking tape.
Create a transfer sheet with a piece of plastic (recycled carrier bag) this can be used more than once so don't throw away when finished. Using a pallet knife spread a thin even layer of oil paint across the surface, it's important not to use too much paint at this stage. Make masks from card or newspaper to protect those areas of the paper that you want to remain white.
Apply the paint from the transfer sheet in stages, the first layer will be the darkest tones which will begin to fade as more paint is applied. Experiment with different ways of making marks on the surface (heavy pressure = darker tones) Allow the white of the paper to be part of the composition and remember to STOP when you feel the work is finished, it's very easy at this stage for the piece to become overworked.
The oil paint colours used for this demo are Prussian Blue mixed with a little Vandyke Brown.
You can achieve excellent results with a few basic materials, making use of recycled card and plastic bags. Oil paint, pallet knife, sponge and cloth.

You are a genius, Dan. Even if I can not make something similar like this, time still well spent watching you create. Love your videos. Your style, your easy to follow demos, your silence while working is so relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable. Your videos themselves fall into the category of art. Thank you very much. Please, let this videos keep coming!

Thank you for sharing. Yes I feel that by not having any distraction like music, I tuned into the painting. I had to laugh because I was telling you "a little piece there" and you place one, "now a little piece in that space" and you did it. LOL. I loved the end result! 😊

Oh Dan, WOW: yet another brilliant video and extraordinarily good art - each rectangle is a mini masterpiece - you could cut them up and sell each one if you wanted - but so good together too! For me = perfect with no sound, just tearing paper+, calm, lovely. And watching you work is like watching a dance or a bird in flight: light, airy, fluid. Thank you so much for making this and putting it up here - and for sharing (teaching us) how you do it. You really inspire me!

Pamela Caughey Art Thank you. I'm not using Arches oil paper, although I have experimented with a canvas and a fine cotton with mixed results. I try to use a heavyweight card/paper of at least 200gsm and the layers of oil paint are very thinly applied with no additional thinner. I'm going to experiment with a gesso primed paper/canvas which may be better. Thanks for watching, I appreciate your comments and positive feedback.
