Thank you, you are a great teacher and this video is very useful. I think you teach the fundamental principles that are needed to answer the GMAT questions, and I must say that is very relieving to put aside all of the gimmicks one reads here and there because one can get to a point in which one focuses too much on gimmicks and therefore loses focus of the fundamentals, and that can certainly be counterproductive.

I haven’t even seen 1/4 of the video but I had to stop and comment at how grateful I am to hear what he is saying. Thank you!! My exam is in 1 week and every video on RC including the institute I have opted for have enforced skimming. I keep asking them how but they just say follow the connectors and read 1st and last sentence of each passage. I am an avid reader and even put this question on reddit a month back coz I couldn’t figure out skimming. I have such an urge to read the whole passage but I have been told to skim to save time but in doing so I have to revisit the passage after each question coz I don’t remember anything especially on scientific and literary passages, it’s confusing as hell. I needed to hear this!!! I wasted so many tests skimming and disappointed immediately after I chose the option coz I knew I was guessing.

“OFFICIAL QUESTIONS ONLY” Such a useful tip! I was practising random RC questions all this while without looking at the source. I got disheartened when I got most of the questions wrong only to realise that the questions’ source is not even known. Thanks a lot❤️ I’ve been performing constantly well since I watched this video❤️

Para 1 Notes: DB's advice -> AA -> Their surprised reaction -> why AA shouldn't be surprised (Shifting along the continuum) Para 2: Practicality of DB's advice (Benefits to AA)-> why DB didn't hold his view for long (Systematic discrimination) [Connects to the first by explaining the practicality of DB's advice and shows the reason for the shift on the continuum]

Hello sir, so I usually dont need to write down notes for RC because I can process the information mentally, and previously I usually got almost all my RC questions correct, but since the past 3-4 days I have been making mistakes in the inference type questions on the RC, I don't know whether it anxiety regarding my upcoming GMAT exam or am I genuinely making them, can you please suggest something?

For q2 I choose D, because of the word "support" used. As in the author already clearly mention it in the prior line. In this line hes just supporting his statement and giving an eg. Is that right? Thanks a lot for sharing this video.

I am not so sure about gimmick #2. Purposeful skimming, such as reading the first and last sentence of a paragraph, can give you a quick snapshot of the overall passage. Given the mere seconds it takes to do this, it can be beneficial. Smart people often anticipate things. While that may be good in life, it can be counterproductive in a timed test. If the text is about, say, Coco Chanel (to suggest a random topic), many people will immediately recall her business empire, others will think about her marketing genius, some will recall her style. It is human nature to predict things, and I don't think it is good advice to say 'just don't do that'. "Read. Don't guess!"... Similarly good advice like 'eat your veggies', 'exercise regularly', and 'get plenty of sleep' don't do the trick, do they? In the case of a reading-comprehension test, a cursory skimming of the passage, with the objective of identifying the topic/direction of each paragraph, simplifies the task of reading for purpose. Test takers might still anticipate what's coming up, but at least the surprise factor is lower. The distraction is limited. So, weigh the negative effects of being surprised by, say, no mention of Chanel's classic designs with the seconds it takes to see that it is a narrow passage about her marketing smarts. Depending on your personality, habits, and reading style, purposeful skimming may be beneficial for you.
