what is the translation in english?
@j.langreck19235 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethhixon2856 unci maka yuhaniya po- Grandmother Earth (same as Mother Earth) is strong [ending in a man's word denoting a man saying it] Mni wiconi wakan yelo- water is sacred [ending with a man's word] Dapl lila sica yelo- dapl is very bad [ending with a man's word] Oyate bleheciya po- the People (or the Nation- as in the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota Nation) are brave [ending with a man's word] Pretty sure that's right. I could be remembering strong and brave backwards but I think that's right.

I don't want to offend anyone, I am just wondering if they are really singing a song? It sounds like a nice beat to "hey" "ahhhhhh" along with others. But it does not sound like actual words with a song of meaning. What/where is that place?
@adakaibaldeagle776 жыл бұрын
Hi there. There are more respectful ways to ask questions about someone else’s culture. Yes, this is an actual song with words song in Lakota. There is meaning to what is being sung. The translation is provided on the comment thread.
@HeatherBurnsDeSalvo6 жыл бұрын
Adakai Bald Eagle my apologies! I'm not very good at explaining myself. The reason I said I didn't want to be offensive to begin with. I've always admired other cultures for exactly what I see. These guys aren't worried about being criticized and I can see in their faces that they are putting their heart into it. Americans have turned into iZombies. They can't take their eyes off their phones, not even for an hour to get a haircut! So I admire tradition & lifestyle. Thanks for sharing!

Yes they are singing a song. They are singing honor Mother Earth and people take courage against the really bad black snake. Rough translation.
@j.langreck19235 жыл бұрын
There is a lead and a second, which are tunes in the beginning, where one person leads a specific tune, and the drum circle responds with another specific tune (every vabrado is calculated), and then there are four verse in Lakota, and then a new lead starts and the rest respond and the same verse is sung.
@Night-uo5tc4 жыл бұрын
Yeah there singing a song and it's a beautiful song to celebrate mother Earth and I'm native and I care about the water so #mniwonchi ✊
