As a retired professional photographer WITH qualifications I remember how the advent of electronic battery dependent cameras was frowned upon back in the 80's as being only for amateurs and that professionals couldn't possibly rely on them for serious work..! How times change, now the same argument gets thrown out for cameras with only one card slot! Equipment evolves and progresses so I agree with you Garth. One of the reasons I subscribe to your channel is the way you USE the equipment you own and obviously love. It's irrelevant to me whether it's film or digital as I use both, it's the using of the kit that's important.

This is so spot on, watching "photography" KZfaq channels is painfully spec based and the sample images are...crap. Gear doesn't matter it's just how you perceive a frame

Single card slots aren't really comparable to film, SD cards corrupt, film doesn't. that's why dual card slots are important although mainly for professional cameras.

Tarun McGinnigle Film can get corrupted too, ever loaded a LTM-Leica? Analog cameras can have too tight pressure plates, that tear the film, sprocket holes can be torn, advance mechanisms can go wrong and tear film. In the early days film containers were made of cardboard and most professionals stuck to glas plates therefore, until the introduction of metal containers. But in a way you are right, so far I have never seen any analog camera with TWO film chambers... 😉

Great video, but no famous film photographer went out, shot just one roll of film. Having 2 cards slots matters if you are shooting for a living ... I have had 3 x XQD cards fail while shooting IRONMAN races, so having the 2nd card saved my ass and many other body parts. The Z7 is $6000 NZD! which is crazy and for the money it should have come with a 2nd card slot. But Nikon and Canon have a plan .... not sure they even know what it is ...... Going now to watch another one of your videos :)

Theres still a lot to say about this. The reason dual card slots exist is because people use/need to use them. At the end of the video you're talking about how photographers have the gear that works for them and how you shoot film which is personally good for you. Please don't think i'm trying to purposely give you hate, i'm just trying to understand the point you're making in this video as one minute? (I also shot exclusively on film by the way)

Think you have a point bud. I can understand digital user they have there place, but to be honest by the time i would have saved over a grand for the latest digital slr i could have spent months mastering my ability with my £300 pound nikon f3!!! ATB

Exactly in my eyes more pro level features in the F3 than a digi they are great cameras

When ever a video shows the " Puddle Hopper " by HCB it really annoys me, some people regard this as the greatest photograph ever taken, what utter rubbish. Bresson says that you should never crop your image but it was o.k. for him to do so, this snap is highly cropped and is out of focus. What makes this a great image baffles me, if it was taken by an unknown photographer from France called Peppie LePugh instead of the famous Henri Cartier Bresson people would not give it a second look. I think it is time to leave the " Puddle Hopper " on the cutting room floor.

Not to be part of the angry mob, but not sure your points are exactly comparable between film and dual card slots. Corruption is real. I do agree no need for all the hate for the lack of dual cards. If the camera doesn't have what these KZfaqrs need, they can be free to not buy them.

I think you missed the point a bit. Wedding photographers used to shoot multiple film bodies for fear of losing rolls not just for different focal ranges. Redundancy is important. Clients don't care if the lab messed up your roll or a card got corrupted. You need to deliver what you were paid for. If you don't have clients a single slot doesn't matter. No one will ever know or care about how many decisive moments you lost out in your street wanderings. Lose a first kiss or father-daughter dance and you could end up getting sued. Pros were waiting for a mirrorless from the brands they trust (and are chained to with expensive proprietary glass mounts) and they were delivered a nerfed product for no reason other than Nikon and Canon didn't want to cannibalise the sales of their Pro DSLRs.

I do understand that they are important and the price people are paying they should be getting dual card slots and client work is important to have redundancy but these days if your client is agreeing to you shooting film then they know the risks

I think the fact that you're talking about gear, kinda contradicts you're statement of 'gear doesn't matter'. Also the fact that those images were shot on film is irrelevant, a good image is a good image, weather its shot on film, digital, with one card slot or a million card slots.

Exactly a good image is a good image no matter what it's taken on but you don't need dual card slots to capture a good image

@@MurphysFilm This is not a conversation about image capture.. You don't need extra slots to capture the image. You may need it to deliver. The card slot question isnt a promlem fro hobbiest or artists. Its for pros shooting for clients. Even journalist who shot film rolled with multiple bodies. Don't doubt that the wouldnt have shot dual rolls if they had the option.
